1. It has a 2nd speak-on output and will drive another 8 ohm cab. Apparently the matching extension cabs are not available in the UK, but I've got it standing on top of my GB focus 112 cab. They are visually a pretty close match, but sadly I haven't had chance to try the full rig yet at anything more than bedroom volume yet. The combo on its own, I used at a rehearsal this week for the first time, I have to say it was awesome! Never got it above 2 on the master volume. Interestingly it has a preamp gain *and* volume, plus a master volume. I haven't quite figured out how they interact yet... Love the combo though, very happy with it!
2. hi BC'ers I'm getting to be pretty happy with my amplification setup, and the sound I'm getting from it, but I quite like the idea of adding a bit of compression to balance out levels, and occasionally some chorus or overdrive. My thoughts were a single multi-effect pedal (with a tuner, ideally) that can add these things as and when I need them, but doesn't offer me a gazillion choices of amp and cabinet emulations, weird synth effects and other stuff that frankly, I'll never use. BTW I just sold a Zoom B3 'cos it was way too much in that department, so I'm thinking of something much, MUCH simpler than that. Or.... should I go the separate pedals route? Any thoughts??? Dronny.
3. Just want to agree, always had fabulous service from him, lovely shop (personally I always find it startling how much top-drawer gear there is in there, just hangin' on the wall!) and as someone else pointed out, he always remembers my last visit, and is happy (time/customers permitting) to chatter. I just bought one of the Genz Contour combos from him, absolutely *top* piece of kit, very happy about that one!
4. Heh, me too (I mean, I had one delivered from BassDirect this week). It's awesome so far, only played it in the house, haven't got a practice until next week so I can't be sure how it sounds amongst everything else, but I really like its sound so far. The weight is also a real bonus, although I'm thinking of fitting some side handles (rather than relying on the single handle on top), and possible some castors, the kind that touch the floor when you tilt the thing back. That might make it even easier to move from the car to rehearsal-rooms / gigs, even though it's not a difficult carry as it is. As you say, at the price it is superb value for money, I'm sure I won't regret it!
5. This is now ON HOLD pending a sale... For Sale is my Ashdown miBass 550 Class-D micro head, bought on here (from Jackers) last May/June time. It has been well-looked after, gigged 3 or 4 times, been to maybe half a dozen rehearsals, and has been well looked-after in a nice little laptop case. Selling it with just a mains lead (no instructions, packaging or anything like that). I can safely say it's in immaculate condition. I should just point out, it's the "Mark I" model, i.e. not the brand new "2.0" series. I'm looking for £240, collected from Swindon, Wilts, or I will happily courier it for another £10. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions... Dave.
6. Just sold my Zoom B3 to Warren (bassninja), very quick and smooth transaction ,absolutely no problems at all, would be very happy to do business with him again. Highly recommended.
7. I'm looking to sell my Zoom B3 digital multi-effects pedal. It was bought as a gift last summer for my birthday, and I just don't really need it. It has a huge variety of effects, amp simulators, speaker simulators, synths, all sorts really (including a chromatic tuner, and the ability to act as a USB audio interface), but it's just not my cup of tea. I've used it maybe 2 or 3 times, just at home, and I'm unlikely to ever really get to grips with it. It is still in its original box, with a UK power supply, and the original purchase invoice from Thomann from last August. I'm looking for £120 (delivered) or £110 for collection from Swindon, Wilts. This is the Zoom Product page on their website, for the full technical details: http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/b3 Sorry, this is now SOLD.
8. +1 for the GB Focus 1x12 -- I use mine with an Ashdown MiBass 550 and the combination is perfect: portable, great sound, lots of options, lots of oomph too. If I were gigging more regularly I'd defo get another GB cab to make a pair.
9. Sad news indeed, Rick was a couple of years below me at secondary school, nice lad as I recall. I will listen to some Leppard tomorrow in memory.
10. Just seen on Twitter tonight that Rick has asked Nick Beggs to play bass on an upcoming tour (possibly South America, can't remember), sounds like an awesome combination!
11. I thought that the legend was that Steve Howe played the bass, and Horn sampled it on the Fairlight?
12.
Classic piece of music. Was on my "Walkman" for about a year. Arhh, to be 15/16 again.
When you say 15/16 was that the time signature? ;-)
13. Okay, so there are less strings on a bass, and you (conventionally) only play one note at a time, but the thing most non-musicians seem to miss is that the bass player still needs to know exactly where you are within the song, what comes next, all the dynamics, basically everything that every other band member needs to know, and that's just as important.
14.
I do enjoy the older Yes albums, and haven't been tempted to buy 'Fly...', even though it's on Amazon download for about £3.69. Then again, maybe I should check it out if it's panned.....I for one really like 'Tormato'.....!! Really!!
My comparison of the 2... Tormato has lousy production but some good music (okay, "Arriving UFO" is a bit sh*te, but Silent Wings, Release Release, Onward, etc), whereas FFH has the sheen of typical Trevor Horn productions, but the music is pretty lame, basically a re-work/extension of a Buggles track from around the time of Drama, plus a couple of Chris Squire pieces that are really nothing special at all. The playing FFH is okay but the arrangements and production seem overblown to me, compared to Yes's greater works. Just my opinion of course
15.
Yes were always hit and miss (mostly miss, no groove). I think once a band has gone away they should definately stay away. Stone roses for instance. Oasis'll be getting back together next, in fact that was probably the plan all along.
It's possible for people to like music that doesn't "groove"... although some seem to think that's the be-all-and-end-all of it. Sadly for Yes, they don't seem to have much to 'say' these days, I found FFH largely forgettable (and I am a *huge* Yes fan). Oddly, the new Asia CD "XXX" is much more enjoyable for me at the moment, whilst they are not 'prog rock' at all these days (not that they ever really were) it's effective, catchy AOR. They are reformed, and seem to have found a style and a voice again. It's not very "now" (and doesn't groove ), but for that AOR-friendly style they are very good at it. Now, the new Rush CD "Clockwork Angels" -- now we're talking! That is awesome, their best in a long time. IMHO of course
16. Bump for price drop -- now £75 collected or £100 posted.
17. Gone to the Bay... should I remove this now, I'm not sure??? Anyhow, it's on eBay, but feel free to make me an offer, I can always cancel the auction, I'd rather sell it to another BC'er.
18. Last few days on here, going on evilBay soon, I'm afraid. Make me an offer!
19.
This would go perfectly with my vx115, will have to see if I can find funds... (Although my birthday is coming up)
Well, let me know if you want it, if I don't get a sniff fairly soon it'll be going on theBay, 'cos I need the funds meself
