I bought a Tort from this guy & it fitted my Fender Mexican P very nicely, so for £12.95 I'd say they're fine/good deal/bargain. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PRECISION-BASS-SCRATCH-PLATE-Pick-Guard-USA-Mex-P-Bass-fit-8-Colours-/200740664991?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item746d8a21c4#ht_1655wt_754 I got a custom made for my '51 P from 'The Bass Doc' as discreet above has said, if you want perfection - send Howard a PM, if you just want a scratch plate try the ebay link, they fit MiM's fine IMO, if yours is not a Fender - I dunno, sometimes the routing is different. Removed from my Frank Bello Jazz when new, no signs of use - as new, 8 or 9" wires. Samarium Cobalt Noiseless, highly rated pick up, just didn't match the Seymour Duncan 1/4lb P pup fitted with it, so I replaced it with a matching SD. Plenty of info on the web I'm sure. Measures 12.54 K Ohms across the coils. SOLD IIRC Fender sell these about £120 a pair so how's £30 + £2.50 P&P 1st class UK. SOLD Cheerz, John

SOLD Removed from my '51 P RI - a perfect upgrade for anything like that. It's a 3 hole fixing with through body & top mount options. Must be Brass I reckon 'cos it weighs about 260 grams, more than 9 oz, that's well over 1/2 a pound in old money It's in excellent condition, no rusty screws, fully adjustable & all working fine. I actually prefer the Hipshot A over a Badass as these have the variable string spacing with the turn of a allen screw. I'm sure I can find a Allen key the right size to supply with, but I don't have any spare mounting screws for it. £30 + £3 P&P for 1st class delivery UK, Paypal as personal payment please or bank transfer. SOLD Cheerz Cheerz, John

These have been on my '51 RI (through body strung) but had very little use, I just fancy a change to TI Jazz Flats. Ends have hardly been cut (if at all) plenty of length still, pictures below. These strings are famous for their long life & getting better as they get older, so consider these 'almost run in', I've done all the hard work for you All original packing included. SOLD £22.50 Posted 1st class UK, Paypal as personal payment or bank transfer please. SOLD Cheerz [s]Could trade for a set of TI JF344 if you have?[/s] Cheerz, John

Much love here for the DiMarzio DP127, fitted on my '57RI it's the most powerful pup in the house, very high output, full range & every note crystal clear. The bass from it is phenomenal, in fact I'm tempted to get another in black this time for my '62RI. IMO a far higher quality pup than a 1/4lb SD, for not much more money. Cheerz, John

Gary very kindly responded to a wanted ad I'd put up for a string tree & in next to no time there in my grubby paw it was . Just the job, it's the little thing sometimes - innit! Many thanks to you Gary, have a good Easter Cheerz, John

Hi Dave, I've got LaBellas, bigger gauges than the TI's on there now & never had any trouble with breakages, it's just the length to silk I was wondering about. BTW the bridge on my '51 is through only. Cheerz, John

Can any users please say if these (Long Scale) are long enough for through body stringing, I'm wanting to fit to a MiJ '51 P-bass. Cheerz, John

I can't believe that bass has gone from one end of the country to the other practically! According to the sticker on the head, it was once sold by my local music shop, who's been going for over 50 years.
Well... using ColinB's criteria (i.e. string fretted at last fret and measuring from top of pole piece to underside of string), I've got a gnat's cock under 3mm on the bass side and a gnat's cock under 2.5mm on the treble side. A gnat's cock being the internationally-recognised unit that's 'too small to measure'. I've got flats fitted too, but I doubt that makes a difference. Mark
I've always believed a midge's m***e to be "the internationally-recognised unit that's 'too small to measure", I think you'll find the gnat's cock is absolutely huge by comparison BTW mine are about the same height - pick ups that is

Sound completely cuts out if the string touches the pole piece....
In the photo, it looks like the shield from your pickup wire is going to the end of the pot track (i.e output) and the central conductor is going to the pot shell (i.e. ground). Reverse those connections, and I reckon it'll be fine. On a Fender pickup, you wouldn't notice any difference as the poles aren't grounded, but the Delano must be made with the poles connected to the shield. So the poles which are normally grounded are now connected to the hot wire, causing a short when the string touches it.
Well spotted Sir Beer of the Bass -

Look under the pick up & do you have a multimeter? -
Dunno the make, looks a bit cheesy but the body is definitely Emmental

Could it be the coil windings are in contact 'electrically' with the pole/s? In other words a short in the windings? -

Active pick ups? If so I'd think there's a problem, sound like the poles are 'live' then shorting out to the string - which should be earthed. Passive - can't see how that would happen -
My girls treated me to a set of D'Addario Chromes for my birthday a couple of weeks back and I decided to put them on my G&L this afternoon. All was going well until tuning up the G string. It wouldn't. It just kept slipping and popping out of the tuner. After a few attempts it got weak and end snapped off, tried again and it just won't have it. Not sure what went wrong, I didn't cut it any shorter than I normally would, infact did everything as usual. I'm wondering if it could have been a faulty one, anyone had a similar experience? I'm sure there's not much point going back to the shop, I'm guessing they will say it's out of their control, which is understandable but on the otherhand I've been changing basss strings since 1973 without incident, well apart from one occassion when I wasn't paying attention and snapped one. It's left me feeling really glum and hacked off and they cost my girls around thirty notes . So if anyone has a spare C'Addario Chrome flatwound G they can flog me it would be hugely appreciated.
I'd certainly have a word with the shop first, I would expect them to be helpful, had good service from Stringbusters (no pun intended ) when I had a dodgy LaBella. Cheerz, John
