1.
Well done, y'all.
In hiding this month? Fortunately there was so much good stuff this month I managed to use all three votes even without you!
2. Thanks for sbrag for reminding me about the Manhattans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4vlthJImVw
3. Ah, the Manhattans, classy stuff. Just off to post one of theirs here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/275180-amazing-vintage-productions/
4. Well, the slightly more serious threads are getting ignored so I thought I'd enter into the spirit.
5. Little heartwarming tale for Christmas: http://swns.com/news/95-year-old-pianist-in-care-home-overwhelmed-after-gumtree-advert-sees-80-musicians-come-to-jam-with-him-69990/
6.
You haven't experienced my current band (me and Mrs Zero) or former club band (drummer and keyboard player) then.
I did think about you, and delighted to be proved wrong, but I'd still be very wary joining a band with partners in the line-up.
7. Back having listened to the Soundcloud recording - that's cool, love the interval played on guitar at 0.17 (ish). As per my previous post, I now definitely think you should have the songs written and demoed first, so they are your songs, and then the band can put their collective stamp on it so they have creative input, but they are your songs.
8.
If you genuinely want a collective effort, I would record your basic ideas so that there is enough of each tune for others to grasp but that there is not so much that they feel inhibited about suggesting changes.
+1 on this, or a hybrid of the two, where you get tracks to a certain standard and then "sell" it to others but with the proviso you want their input on developing the tunes. Good luck with the project, some great inspiration there to work from. Off to listen to your Soundcloud track now.
9.
My next potential project involves a couple, one of whom plays a bit of keys. Maybe I should just sack it off before we even start rehearsing?
Well the way this thread is running... Then again Kev, people play the lottery every week and the odds there are probably even worse!
10. Such a shame I don't have the required EBS gear to play it through
11. When I replied earlier I forgot my golden rule - is there a couple in the band? Never a good idea in my experience.
12.
I did try a search but found loads of stuff about Fender Jazz bass so decided to simply ask

You sound like a grumpy old man. I'm happy for a new thread to happen, happy to participate and read it. Even if I wasn't it isn't causing anyone any harm other than maybe costing an extra 0.0001p in server space.
Touche! And yes, the above is probably a fair defence. But there is a lot of great information on the forum and it just seems a shame if it doesn't get used when people need it. Got a supermarket trip looming - time to get seriously grouchy
13. At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man (especially this close to the season of goodwill) how about trying a forum search - this subject has been covered several times, once pretty recently: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274641-god-help-me-think-im-starting-to-like-jazz/page__hl__jazz which includes a link to Bilbo's God, I Love Jazz.
14. Who is in charge? How many gigs booked? What's the financial split? (as opposed to how much do I get paid) What new repertoire is in the pipeline? But in my non-pro experience it really is down to how you get on with each other that is THE most important factor.
15. Thanks - the online demo from EHX sounds good, may have to investigate!
16. You use the same amp as me rungles. What do you use for dirt, the gain or a pedal?
17. Pretty sure you didn't. Doesn't look like his Guitar Interactive reviews.
18. Great example here of how what in theory should be dead simple can become quite demanding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwws6XPZ1JM
19. Two great tracks there, love the guitar break in the first track - fits perfectly.
20.
This is the second time this has happened with public domain material in videos I have uploaded. Is this YouTube finding any excuse to put ads in front of videos? Discuss.
When you upload is there any form filling/box ticking regarding copyright? In this instance you are the copyright owner of the recording. If you have significantly re-arranged the piece you can also claim the writing credit as Trad. Arr BassBus. I wouldn't think it was a Youtube ploy, just some smart@rse looking for unregistered work to claim as Naethru suggests, in the hope that if they do hundereds they may pick up a handful and get the ad revenue.
21.
and turned up a little bit (for a bit more dynamic ability).
I did this a short while ago and loved the result. Stupidly gone back to turning down and digging in. Will make the effort to switch again. Met another bass playing Lockyer recently, over in Fareham - any relation?
22. One of the combinations discussed in the Christmas thread was Nelson Riddle and the Capitol Studio - here they are doing what the do best - love the build up to the trombone, and then the ever so slightly cheesy, but beautifully executed final two bars, with that classic combination of double bass and triangle! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPu0zkfmglQ
23.
You just can't argue with the sound of the first Boston album. Sublime.
Yep, 1976 and sounds bang up to date production wise.
One of my reference albums for good production and arrangements is Rickie Lee Jones' Pirates from 1980. I borrowed it from my local library (along with Zappa's Hot Rats) not long after it was released on the strength of liking the cover images and was completely bowled over by both albums - I don't think I've quite recovered since Most of Steely Dan present, including Steve Gadd drumming and Chuck Rainey on bass. Sublime
Love the way you can hear the album tracks marrying up to one another, and can hear a huge nod towards Chuck E's in Love from the previous album.
24.
I just noticed something under your name, Mykesbass.
Guilty as charged
25. Oh, and just so this doesn't take off as a 70s soul thread, here's the rather magnificent work of Arif Mardin, Jerry Wexler and Tom Dowd - check the snare accent - on the fifth beat of every two bars, best sounding waltz rhythm I've heard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z28gt8wBNo
