Hello!

Hello, and welcome to the forum.....some nice wotk in those video's -
4. You wouldn't believe that this was the same bass......absolutely top job
5.
Well you might not have had a problem, but just suppose you did have a problem and they basically don't offer you any help apart from a public forum for M-Audio users. Pretty pathetic if you've just spent hundreds of pounds on their equipment IMO.
I have only had to deal with their customer service for minor things - regarding spare acoustic mats for my monitors - got them sent for free.....also contacted them about drivers for win7, when I thought about upgrading - they said they would let me know, and guess what, I received an e-mail from them a couple of weeks later to tell me that they were available on the site........ Ok, I have not had an issue with faulty equipment, so can't comment on that - but as I said, I have used their stuff for years, 2 different keyboards, 2 different soundcards and 2 different sets of monitors, upgrading as better equipment became available - and have not once had a problem. Their drivers and software seems to be really stable - even more so if you keep the PC free of non essential stuff(eg: a seperate machine for music and everything else on another).....So no, I can't see where the problem is. You have obviously had a problem, and if you had received poor customer service, then you can only speak as you find......but, this is only your experience/opinion, and pointing it out to the OP is helpful - but to repeat that you are not happy with their customer service, does nothing to enhance the thread. I have stated my reasons for reccomending them - let the OP make an informed decision, without cluttering up their thread with pointless additional posts on your experience.
6. I agree with the M-Audio stuff - Never had a problem with mine, and I have used their midi keyboards, monitors and soundcards for years. I was once given a bit of advice by a studio engineer regarding headphones - "never mix anything using headphones, they will never give you a proper perspective of the mix".
7. I have tried one of the Fender Kingman bass acoustics. Basically an acoustic with a Fender Jazz neck. Now - to me - unplugged it sounded quite full and rich, although not loud - but plugged in, with the Fishman preamp, I sounded really quite warm. With the Jazz neck, the fretting arm/hand notices no difference between a standard Jazz and one of these. The body, as you would expect, is a bit more bulky, but was still extremely comfortable. For around £265 from Sounds-Live, I don't feel you could go far wrong with one of these - unless you don't get on with a Jazz profile neck
8.
The necks on the classic 50's models are really nice - The original "third of a baseball bat" design, wide at the nut, but very comfortable to play. The quality on these models seems very good too, with glossed necks/fingerboards, tall vintage reverse tuners & lovely finishes. The only criticism I had on playing one was that the pickup lacked output, but that can easily be changed with the addition of a Nordstrand, Wizard Thumper, or any number of quality split coil pickups. All in all, a lovely bass for not much money.
+1 on this. The pick up output is low - at a recent event, my son's band followed another band, where the bass player was using a Squier - and with no changes to the amp between bands - the Squier sounded really loud, but his 50's classic could barely be heard. The bass is really well made, and plays really well. The action can be set really low with the stock bridge. The bridge is one of the vintage spiral groove saddle types, and as such I think it is superior to the standard bit of bent tin that seems to go on the majority of the Mex Fenders - Personally, I would leave it on. I am tempted by the Honey Blonde one myself.
9. I wondered if the string post is being pulled hard against the headstock bushes when it string is under tension.
10. Nylon dunlop .75 or 1mm, depending on what I'm playing, sometimes, the extra flex in the .75 can help for faster riffs....but for the slower stuff, I find myself playing more with thumb and 1, 2 or 3 fingers, kind of what you see a gui****st doing.

Hey all

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I sure you will find plenty to talk about and laugh at here.
14. Hello, and welcome to the forum......good luck with your hunt for a jazz bass...... Oh!, and you gotta love those chinese beef curries
15. Early influences wer probably Les Holroyd from Barcley James Harvest, and Lemmy in his Hawkwind days. A few years later it would be JJ Burnel and Bruce Foxton.... If I had to pick some-one these days, I would have to say Tony Pettitt (Fields of the Nephilim/NFD/The Eden House)....not for being flash, or having any specific sound - but just for laying a solid foundation for the music - doing something that just "fits" - none of this "hey! look what I can do" attitude.

22. Butterscotch every time...... Of course - if you can't find one when the time comes to buy, get the Sunburst and a good sander.
23. I've tried the Ibanez AEB8E, and the AEB10E, both played and sounded nice, for me anyway....but I preferred the AEB8E. If you want something that feels like you are playing an electric bass, there is always the Fender Kingman Bass. Basically the Fender is an acoustic body with a Jazz bass neck. Shop around for some good prices. Average on-line price: Ibanez AEB8E = around £200 Ibanez AEB10E = around £290 Fender Kingman = around £265

Helloooo

Hello, and welcome. You may get an answer here, but you might try posting in the appropriate sub forums where they will probably get more exposure. I will be looking around for a couple of short scale basses, in the near future, but I am in the same boat with regards to local shops not having much, if any, choice......all I have seen is a Squier Bronco. So.....I will probably end up buying blind on line - looking at things like the Fender Mustang and Gibson SG (unlikely I could afford an EB in good nick). Good luck with your search.
