  2. If it stays ludicrously cheap, I'm half tempted to buy it, make some really tacky decorative mods and then sell it on for the purchase price. EDIT: just noticed it's rather a long way from home.

    Hi

@Albs, I don't know if you're following it, but this gig-bag thread has got some excellent suggestions.
  16. I like the look of this one. That little pocket looks just the right size for wireless transmitter, batteries etc. And by the sounds of it, would be big enough for my Sire fiver. This and @CameronJ's Thomann Premium are my two favourites of the bunch so far (apart from the really expensive Momos etc. which would be out of my price league).
  17. Jump Around - House Of Pain
  18. Visually a great idea, but tonally/playability a non-starter for me... I hate the feel of flats & tapes unfortunately... ...but they are definitely an idea worth a look, yes! EDIT: and the DRs are a good price at Lord Of The Strings too
  19. The proof of the pudding is in the eating I guess 😉 it's all very modular so changing the pickups or the guts will be easy enough. Having said that, all my basses are pretty hot actives including my current go-to gig bass Sire V7.
  20. So while I'm waiting for the two week paint-hardening period to end (this coming Sunday) so I can get busy with the wet/dry, I thought I'd take the opportunity to mock it together and get an idea of what it will look like... pleased is an understatement. God, I hope it works. The EMG eq is squeezed in place under the control plate and just about fits with the PP3 into the titchy cavity. That's the original black pickguard, with some 50mm reflective checker tape applied. The reflective white bits are very reflective indeed, so I'm hoping it will look pretty good under stage lights. Also: just how good is tung oil?? I cannot believe I've never tried it before. I am never going to lacquer a piece of wood again.

  23. My current gig bag isn't hugely padded, is getting on a bit and certainly isn't Sherman tank proof. But its previous owner was OldGit, so it's going nowhere. I might treat myself to a heavier second bag at some point in the (hopefully not too far distant) future though, to celebrate the start of gigging again. So I'm going to keep an eye on this thread for recommendations too.
  24. A pedant writes: "Actually, I think you'll find you can drive over any gig bag in a Sherman tank, or any other heavy vehicle for that matter. Whether it survives or not is an entirely different matter. To be strictly accurate, I think you'll find that you should have stated that you are 'not after something diamond-encrusted that will survive intact should it be driven over by a Sherman tank or any other tracked or untracked armoured vehicle'. No I don't have very many friends, as a matter of fact. Why do you ask?"
