Next big step is sorting the positions for the tuner blocks.

The only sure way I know of getting the bridge units (or even a fixed bridge!) in the right place is to fit some old strings to the headstock and try it for real.  It's relatively easy with this because the strings are clamped at the headstock

    :OX4nu9Yl.jpg

Then, with the tuner units positioned with a minimum of 5mm back movement from scale length, it was a case of pulling the two tuner blocks tight and positioning to be even either side of the fretboard and 54mm apart to give @Jus Lukin his preferred 18mm string spacing.

Then I could mark the front screw hole positions for those 2 and then divide the remaining space for the other 2 :

With all 4 front screws fitted, I could now string it up lightly and check the angular positions - they could be set straight (as, of course, fixed bridges are), but with single element bridges, I always think it adds a little to have them following the string line:

Then I could fit the back screws to each of the four bases and...of course ;) ... do a mockup.  I've dampened some of the walnut to show broadly the colour it will eventually be.  The fretboard also will darken from this:

    I want it.

Sorry, but it had to be said out loud 🤭

  2. For a guy who 'hates routers' you really can do a cracking job with one 🤭 this is going to be one very special bass IMO 👌🏼

And to have two amazing threads running side by side on here is really top notch work @Andyjr1515

    Brilliant 👍🏼

Currently we're looking at natural, with tru-oil – which, now I've seen it for the first time, I really like...

I was hoping you'd say that, either natural or stained I think that grain will look lovely 👌🏼 this is yet another classic @Andyjr1515 thread 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  4. And I've also had enquiries about the changed parts, so to clarify - I do not have the original removed components ie; pups, bridge, E tuner and passive controls so they are not included, bass is sold as described ;)

Outstanding fretless! What a lovely retirement present! Any big plans for how you're going to be spending your new found freedom?

Yeh it's a beauty, and I've got a few songs that'll use it in the set 🤞🏼At the start of the year when I knew I'd be retiring at some point midway through, I did plan on an old band of mine from 20 years back having one last hurrah, got the original lads to agree to reforming back in February, went out and bought a quality PA system etc...you can guess the rest @Al Krow😩 The planned holidays also evaporated..🤬

We managed a few rehearsals in-between lockdown/tiers then our drummer suffered badly with Covid...etc ☹️

All on hold for the time being 🙄

Plenty on at home though to keep me pottering☺️ and the prospect of being first time grandparents is coming in May '21 👍🏼 😄

I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd make a start on the pickguard/fretboard extension here's what I've come up with?.......

I think @Pea Turghis right a ski-slope down from the end of the fretboard would probably be the best option but I do like the idea of a pickguard it makes it look slightly different? What does everyone else think?....... 👍🏻

If you've no plans venturing up the dusty end, the overhang looks good IMO, think it'll be a struggle to access? But like others have said, shame to cover that wood 😜

  7. Two great purchases off here, a full lighting rig including cases and everything else needed to make it all work bought from beautiful Biggar in Scotland courtesy of well known BCr

    @dmccombe7

And second, a superb Cliff Bordwell fretless bass, bought from top seller @Clarky  which was a retirement present for me bought by my wife 👌🏼

She gave me the choice of a new watch or a bass - no brainer really 😆

I did have a one and only time duff experience with a purchase that arrived broken and had to get one of the mods involved ☹️

And for Christmas, Santa brought two Kliq Aircell straps and a duel stand 👍🏼

Who knows when any of it will see any gig action though ☹️

  8. Met Dave today to sell him a bass, lovely fella, great socially distanced craic, we both had our hand sanitiser at the ready!

Great communication throughout and a pleasure to meet a fellow local BCr, who happens to play in a well known local band. I wish all sales went like this, local and done in two days! 😄
