The bass in the vid is the Hohner B2A.

I have one.  It's active.  I also have a five string Steinberger Spirit.  It's passive.

The Hohner is a much better quality instrument.  Mine is strung with piano wound (exposed core at the saddles) rounds.  It zings.  A proper slap monster.

My B2A sits behind the settee, great little bass, with the drop Dtuner bridge too👍🏼

  2. I watch a bit then fast forward through the acts my Nana would have termed 'tripe' back when she was alive, and I would agree after some of the dross I've seen so far. Strikes me there's some truly dire stuff out there purporting to be music, but then again I must be getting old 😆

Chic however, and in particular that drummer..

Talented band and timeless tunes, witness the crowd involvement 👍🏼

  3. Sad news, like others have said, Take On Me was a breath of fresh air completed by an  incredible video, great singer.

My eldest lad has a mate whose Dad has been trialling a new treatment up here in the NE with amazing results, he even made local news a while back. He's back on his bike and living a very improved life so far 👍🏼

There's so many factors that can result in fret buzz; poor set up, high frets, wonky neck, wrong neck angle, action too low etc.  All are pretty much easy to solve.

If you're impartial to a bit of sweary media content, fire up You Tube and watch some of Milehouse Studio content from Paul Richards.  He's done a series of videos fundamentally about turning around (unloved/bedroom player) guitars into decent playable instruments, using budget tools/gadgets.

He makes no bones about the fact that he wants to entertain people 'while they're on the toilet at work' and regardless of the fact that his vernacular and delivery is very amusing, there's a ton of sound content in these videos; it's a lot easier absorbing these than reading how to do stuff.

I love his vids, he's absolutely hilarious, but really informative too, brilliant 👍🏼😎

  5. I quite enjoyed that, had no idea he was a guitar collector mind, amazing 😳

I liked the way he tries to improve his collection by swapping out guitars with dings and dents for a similar model that's in better condition.

Safe to say he's not a fan of the relic look then 😆

I remembered I had some cow print fabric on a shelf in the workshop so I thought I'd try and have a go at doing a fabric top on the hidden pickup bass

Just gotta wait till tomorrow so the epoxy is fully cured so I can sand the top back flat.......👍🏻🤟🏻

Unusual as usual Jim, love the experimentation you try 👏🏼👍🏼

  7. Excellent, he's just great craic isn't he? 👌🏼

I loved his podcasts during lockdown, and in particular his hilarious anecdote about recording for Michael Jackson - I think it was for Earth Song (look it up, I won't spoil it if you've not seen it!)

Great trick with the strings and foam on the Telecaster bass too 😳👏🏼

And interviewed with an upturned collar and ripped shirt sleeve 🤣

    Brilliant GP 👍🏼

Are we allowed questions in here or just for showing? If it's allowed then I have a '91 thumb with the brass frets. Will stainless steel rounds 'hurt' it? Conflicting statements online about whether brass frets are longer lasting or not vs others. Thanks!

I have tried to post an image, but it seems nothing quite sneaks under the upload limit and the imgur link won't do anything. Downer.

I've used SS rounds on my '98 ThumbNT for years, and played regularly with the bass.

Those Warwick bell brass frets are very hardy 👍🏼

I like them so much I've recently had them fitted on my Vigier fretless to fretted conversion featured here:

Mint that @Hellzero, and similar looking to the one I had!

Those books were a great resource mind you, I can remember it being the go to for so much of the curriculum (O level back in the day) as well as working through the grades.

These days, to my shame, I couldn't tell you a single note on a sheet of music 😕 back then I recall I could write a four part cadence 🙄

Everything I did bandwise, from starting up during schooldays onwards - sax, bass and guitar - was all done by ear.

  10. I did up to grade 5 clarinet when I was at school, with the lure of an alto saxophone if I got merits in grade 5 (just managed to scrape by!)

Whenever I hear of folks doing grades, I wonder if this is still their bible? It was in the 70's.. 😉
