1. Forgot to mention I use a sans amp bddi. Markbass stuff interests me. The problem is there's no where to test/play this stuff in my area. That I know of anyways.
2.
I'm sure there will be lots of suggestions for very expensive gear, but if your budget is important and you don't need many features, and likem a clean but powerful sound - you can't go far wrong with the Hartle LH series (500 or 1000). Cabs wise, there seems to be a lot more choice in some ways, and it could be argued that these will have a greater effect on your overall sound... My own experience is limited in this field, but I'm sure others will be along soon to inform you better!
I shall look into these. I think i would put my cab down (well the 8x10 config) as a major contributing factor to my sound .
3. Guys I'm so confused. I really don't know what I want or what to do about my amp woes. I shall do my best to explain my situation. I've always loved Ampeg tone, so on my 18th birthday when I was presented with an SVT-CL I couldn't have been happier. The classic was brilliant for the first 4 years then it became unreliable so I fixed it then jacked it in for an SVT-4 pro which is better for my sound and I prefer to my classic. The only problem is the classic Ampeg reliability issue. In the year I've had it it's worked for a combined 8 weeks (roughly). I can't have that. I need to be able to use my a rig all the time which I can't at the moment. I'm currently using a peavey nitrobass which is plenty loud and perfect for a backup but it's definatly missing something. So my dilemma is what should I be playing? I'm happy with my Ampeg 8x10 but not completely adverse to getting rid for something that will work better with a new head, but what to go for? Ashdown is out. I just can't hear them for some reason. I've never disliked the old trace gear but sourcing a good AH500 and cabs could take a while. (its an option im looking into though) Orange's are too muddy for my liking. The one gig I played with a Marshall VBA was the least comfortable I've ever been on stage. Maybe some nice light weight neo gear? I honestly don't know what to look for. I'd appreciate some sound advice please?
4. Is it 34"? Looks short in comparisson to the jazzes.
5. I'm after one of these but the price seems a tad steep
6. I never have any money when these come up! And their close enough to throw a stone at! Frick!!!!
7. This is tempting me! Can I see more pics somehow?
8. I reckon it's worth my CIJ 66RI with badass bridge and shed hot n dangerous custom pickups (original US specs included too). Atleast!
9. To a degree it probably is sad but I can't get my tone without an Ampeg 8x10 for some reason. That, rotosound strings and a sansamp are the biggest contributing factors to my tone. The bass doesn't seem to matter too much. I'm happy playing anything equipped with P, MM or J type pickups (or my grabber when it works), less so with a jazz these days though. Tempted to to trade it in for a ray or a G&L or even, in a shocking attempt to break out of the 70s a corvette $$ or a sandberg, my dream bass would probably be a wal because my favourite live sound to date is that produced by Justin chancellor of tool, or some sort of mm equipped p or j shaped beastie from hell. Although I have to admit big red x I do like the look of and have enjoyed reading about some of your super modern exercises in engineering and design and as Ou7shined knows I'm quite jealous of his avatar.
10. If only this had frets
11.
Sounds like you want a $$, a thumb is a very, very different beast to a $$, 'ray or L2k. Sorry diverting your sale king tut! Though at this price, it shouldn't last long. If I had £550, I'd jump on this, as I have some nasty Warwick GAS right now!
I know. I already have an aggressive face biting jazz but I do quite fancy a thumb. I probably shouldn't though.
12. Retains it's value indeed? Do I want a thumb or a ray/L2000/corvette $$ is the question. Me likey thumb!
13. Haha ok that's a fair point. Although I'm a p/j toting heavy Ampeg 8x10 lugging stuck in the 70s although I'm only 23 type.
14. Want want want want want want want want want want want want want want want!
15. That it's not a common feature on many basses probably because it doesn't need to be. I think bass players on the whole fear change
16. cocco

pro co rat

They are awesome! I also like the Marshall guv for bass. Mine is modded though.
17. Filter preamp? I think I know why no one else does that.
18. I stand corrected. Ou7shined I reckon that's a mighty fine pickup config!
19. Jesus that's insane! 7 strings??? Sounds like a learning opportunity.
20. I dunno man. The straight edge on the bottom of the control cavity..... Looks suspiciously like it could be covered by chrome.
21. I have a boss TU-2 and a sansamp bddi. I'm pretty sure I don't need anything else. Guys with massive boards, how often do you use every pedal in it?
22. I agree with molan. Although G&L gets my vote. I think the L2000 and ASAT basses are amazing. Pluslets not forget the pedigree.
23. It must have started life as a telebass looking at the control cavity. This has me really interested. I vote build a sheehan tribute bass.
24. Is 78 even the right year for the tele bass to have the neck bucker?
25. Maybe it was supposed to be a tele bass, but then last thing on Friday afternoon someone realised they were a p bass short of an order and just monkey'd it together on the sly. Because he had a hot date to go home and get ready for and CBS weren't gonna pay him overtime were they? Money grabbing, neck mounting screw stealing (from the jazz) bastards!
