1. Very nice. Bridge is a bit strange but an easy fix! The strings look like Innovations with the different coloured ends. But I'm sure Honeys have a bright blue/turquoise wrap at the ball end? Unles it's my screen/your camera that makes the wraps look purple? Enjoy it. I have an Antoni at the moment and would love to upgrade!
2. I've used a GKMB500 into a Barefaced Compact for over 3 years now. The GK has never let me down is plenty loud enough for most of the venues I play and pretty good for Double bass too. I've lusted after the higher end stuff like Markbass etc. But the GK does the job. And it's cheap too!
3. I too mainly play with one finger, or sometimes both at the same time for extra volume. But on quicker passages I use two and have to rotate my hand more towards being horizontal rather than vertical (if that makes sense) I find because there is less time between the notes the sound isn't as important, but it certainly has improved with practice and if I concentrate can get a pretty even tone.
4. Try Paul Cuthbert, he's in Whalley Range (just outside Manchester city centre) he's some pics of his work non his website: http://paulcuthbertguitars.co.uk/galleries
5. Bought a Fishman Platinum Pro off Andy. Great Communication and speedy despatch, the item was as described and well packaged too. Thanks for an easy and pleasant transaction Andy.
6. Try John Surdivan: http://www.surdevancreative.com/ He's done stuff for my bands before and is great to work with. Tell him Pete Harrop sent ya.
7. I have both a Hercules mini and the Ultimate. Here's my two penneth: The Hercules is perfect for my needs, fits in my amp bag and I've used it with Jazz basses too. Used it for about 10 years without incident - If I lost it I would definitely replace it. The ultimate is good I like the way it closes on the headstock and the bass feels more secure. I took mine to one gig and decided the foot print was too big, the feet spread quite wide and it just took up too much room. Now if I need a spare stand at a gig I just take a standard cheapo one. The Ultimate stands in the living room with my spare bass on it. It's a good stand but too big so if I lost it I probably wouldn't be in a rush to replace it.
8. Thanks Geoff. The guitarist is a great player and carries the rest of us quite a bit. With my (limited)vocabulary solid and tasteful is what I was going for. I love your YouTube lessons by the way.
9. Thanks Marc I started on the Stagg too. It would be good to hear some of your playing. I've got Super Silvers on my bass not the slaps. But I really like them, good low tension and they seem to add a lot of depth and Character.I tried Honey's and they were good, but the Silvers just appeal more to me.
10. Thanks guys.I've found the transition surprisingly easy. But I do struggle further up the neck and really need to look at thumb position - this scares me!
11. Hi Guys Towards the end of last year I went into the studio with my new jazz quartet. I've been playing jazz and double bass for around 9 months so there's nothing flashy. My bass is an Antoni debut with Innovation Silvers, again nothing flashy. We recorded at Basschat's very own Cheddatom's studio: http://www.rifffactoryrecordings.com/ Have a listen https://thesilvermoonquartet.bandpage.com/ We're still working on a website and need a proper photo shoot. I'd appreciate any feedback on improvements on playing, sound and your general feedback. Big thanks to Tom who was rally easy to work with and made this a really relaxed easy process. Thanks Pete
12. Thanks guys. Might be sorted now but good to have recommendations for future projects. Maybe we could make a sticky with studio recommendations and samples of basschatter recordings?
13. Sorry was on my phone and couldn't see your sig. Just switched to desktop mode and saw it. Will text guitar and let him know.
14.
I'm in Talke Pitts, ST7 1PW, takes about 40 minutes from central manchester but obviously it depends on traffic and where abouts in Manchester you're travelling from. I could free up the weekend for £100/day no problem
Cool, Do you have a website I can direct the guitarist to? He's the one who will make the decision.
15. Hi Guys The jazz Quartet I play in was booked in for some free studio time this coming weekend at a friend's studio. But he's now got some paid work coming in so we've been bumped! We've all booked time off from gigging this weekend, and we're all booked up with various things for the next couple of months so we really should do it this weekend. We're not bothered about state of the art equipment. We just wanted a decent sounding live room, a quick and efficient engineer and cheap (£100 a day or less). I figure at short notice if somebody is free this weekend we might get a deal? Needs to be in the Manchester area or close to. The other alternative is we have a digital eight track and all the mics etc we need so if anybody knows of a decent space we could do it ourselves. Our regular rehearsal space has too much bleed from other rooms. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks Pete
16. I've had stuff screen printed before. As one poster suggested you could get some blank ones and then see if you can find somebody to do it locally. My neighbor used to work for a not-for profit art studio where they had a screen press and you could get stuff done fairly cheaply, and up here there are a couple of community print shops. Art/design students might have access to print stuff too? Or if you want to purchase them and have them printed places like printing.com do all sorts of stuff?
17. Glad you found somebody. But if Huw isn't around and you fancy a lesson, I take Lessons from Stewart Wilson based here in Manchester. Only a quick jaunt up the M56, he doesn't have a website but you could give him a call on 07936767828. Great Jazz and classical player. He's an ex RNCM student so if he's too far he might be able to tell you of somebody closer to you?
18. I'm a Northwest Bass player with metal leanings. I tend to be vegetarian at home (mainly to save money and try and keep the weight off), but I do eat meat on occassion If your criteria changes let me know :-)
19. Sold a set of monitors to Chris. Excellent communication, speedy payment and a pleasure to deal with. Would definitely deal with again.
20. Ok, hopefully I'm in the right place this time! Can I be next on the list please if there's nobody else? Thanks Pete
21. Sorry I was viewing on my phone and my sausage fingers must have clicked on the wrong forum! Apologies all, as you were. I'm off to put my name down for the Honeys. Thems the ones I wanna try!
22. Hi Guys Please can I have them next? I've got some Super Silvers on my cheapo DB at the mo and want to compare them to the honeys. Thanks Pete
23. Cheers Fatback. That makes sense!
24. Cheers Guys. Keeponehandloose - thanks for the offer. I'm coming round to the fact I'm prob going to need to get a set up. My Bass teacher is coming round the Sunday after next so I'm going to talk through the issues with him and see what we can come up with. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it, it sounds great through my MB500 and compact. I'm sure I'll have loads of questions soon. This is steadily becoming my favourite part of the forum!
