  1. Deal and agree that going down the dark and oft lonely road of the upright should be a one way trip!
  2. I have managed to sort out a rental in the short term so I am relisting!
  3. No I'm writing a couple of articles it will net me £520 if they get published - think I could live without a kidney. Which way to the black market please
  4. Will depend if I can sort out some other source of income - the next 6 months are going to be a real trier. Just so everyone knows that is NOT me in the picture its my good friend who at 5 foot is utterly bemused at the size of the bass - and shocked to learn they go even bigger!
  5. lol that has just put a huge smile on my face, wanted one for 10 years and only bought this year so it really is gutting to have to do. It will only be temporary though I've gotten myself hooked!
  6. Heart breaking forced sale due to car being written off in the same week landlord has informed me that my rent is increasing. The bass is a Stentor 1950 3/4 Upright, which has been set up fairly low for jazz style. Very good condition, a few very small (barely noticeable) scuffs, but a really nice tone for an entry level bass according to my tutor. Brand new bow and padded gig bag included. Buyer to collect or arrange own courier (suggest Delsol) - based in Abergele in North Wales. Contact Andy 07549 631514 (by text during day if thats ok).
  7. Just wanted to pop back and say thanks for recommending Huw - I've spoken to him and seeing him next Thursday with a view to seeing him as and when he's around
  8. Whats his name? I might be able to do Bromborough fortnightly!
  9. Sounds great! I live pretty well equidistant to the Farmer's Arms and the White Lion so can get along easily enough. There are a couple of guys listed in Wrexham on one of the music tutor pages, but the jazz guy (David Spencer?) hasn't responded to my 'contact me' request...There are at least 2 listed on the Wirral if that would be reasonable for you? I can post the links up if so. Huw Vaughn Williams, thanks for the tip - I'll look him up
  10. Hi all I'm noob to the upright, having 'played' EB for many years, all self taught and no particularly advanced theoretical knowledge. I've wanted to start learning double bass for about 8 years, and having finally got a few long term debts paid off have taken the plunge and bought an ex hire Stentor 1950 for 700 beans. Has a few scuff marks but generally plays very well, and came with a bag and new bow, and a free set up so was ready to play. I live in North Wales, and the nearest (non classical) tutor I can find online is 70 miles away in Liverpool, which is a bit unrealistic, unless I was going to do say a monster 3 hour lesson once a month or something. I plan to attend a few events arranged by the NW Jazz Society and ask around as you just never know, but it is increasingly looking like I'm going to have to self study, at least at first. An alternative seems to be online lessons - has anyone had experience of these and if so could you feedback? Failing that I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to starting to self study in respect of particular titles. I'd prefer some kind of progressive course if one exists, but happy for any pointers Thanks Andy
