1. In my bands we record nearly everything we do. We use a Zoom handheld thing could be the Q2? If placed correctly and as long as your instruments are balanced well in the room you can get amazing results. We normally run stuff once at a rehearsal record it and then everybody works on their parts for the gigs. The new Behringer X18 has the abilty to send all of the inputs to a DAW via USB but is probably overkill for your purposes?
2. Hey Guys I'm travelling to France with a friend's band and we've stopped over in Dover for a gig. Turned up to a 2 bit PA and 'no sorry we don't have a mic or mic stand'! Thankfully I had a mic in the car. But we're short a stand. Is there anybody close the the Boars Head on Eaton Rd CT17 who can bring us a mic stand for a pint? Thanks Pete
3. I bought a Bassmax pickup from Noah. Great communication, speedy dispatch. And the pickup was as described. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with again.
4. Hi Karl I manage my own function bands and do a bit of dep work . I recently went from a full time job to working 3 days a week because I can now match my wage with gigs etc. From a band leader point of view: I generally tend to take on deps that have been recommended to me, or from bands that I've depped with previously. So it's really important to get out there and meet other people. Are you studying music at Uni? If so stay in touch with your fellow students. Go to Jam nights etc. talk to as many people as you can and tell people what you do - you'll be surprised where work comes from. I sold a double bass at the weekend and the bassist and guitarist turned up to check it over. Within 5 minutes they'd offered me a gig! I was already booked, but I've since offered the bassist work too, so no doubt something will come from that chance meeting. As a player: get some videos and recordings of you playing. Try and build yourself a website if possible to (I'm planning on doing this over the next few weeks). Chase work, Join Facebook groups and scour the band/musician seeking websites reply to as much as possible. The more work you do the more you'll get. I've done some work with these guys: http://www.dkmanagement.co.uk/. The pay isn't mega bucks but once you're in a band/on the books you end up playing for a lot of their bands in the area. You probably won't get rich doing it, and you might need to supplement your income with teaching or other work like I do. Or if you're young and don't have any responsibilities you could try cruise work? You'll generally need to be a reader and have a good knowledge of tunes in loads. As said above. Look smart, be on time, learn the tunes- and be personable/enthuisiastic.
5. Hi Phil. That's why I bought it. I learnt the basics, got a grasp of what the instrument was about and without the outlay of a pricier instrument in case upright wasn't for me. Get in touch if you'd like to come and try it out. Thanks Pete
6. Bump - no love for the big orange box? Excellent beginner/beater instrument. Is my price too high? Make me an offer.
7. Hi Bass chatters I'm selling my first upright. It's a 3/4 sized Antoni Debut Bass with a Fishman Full Circle pickup fitted. I bought this bass off my DB teacher who was given it by a friend. He vetted the bass before selling it to me and and he said it was a great beginner upright and It's served me well. It has a great full sound and is really solid without any rattles. I had the bass set up by Paul Bryant as he lives round the corner from my in-laws, he changed the strings and re-shaped the bridge and nut for me. This was over a year ago now and I've changed the strings a few times since then so could probably do with a bit of a setup, but it's in great playable condition as is. I've played the bass with a few bands at gigs and recording sessions. Engineers love the sound of the Fishman Full Circle, it gives a great 'natural' sound. The bass is of laminate construction with an ebonized fingerboard. It's in great condition with just a couple of marks (see pics). It's currently strung with innovation honeys, I'll chuck in some Innovation Super Silvers if the buyer wants them too. This is a great example of a 'cheap chinese bass' and would suit a beginner or would be great as a beater for gigs where you don't want to take your 'vintage' bass. If I could afford it and had the room I'd keep this but I'm sticking with my Stagg EUB as a back up bass as I need the silent practice that affords. It comes with a cheap cover and bow too. I'm asking for £500 for this collected from Manchester (I'm in Dukinfield 5 mins from the M60) or I can deliver if you cover my fuel, I often travel to Shropshire and Worcestershire as I have family there. You can here recordings of the bass here: http://silvermoonquartet.co.uk/ All tracks except Fever were recorded with this bass strung with Innovation Silvers and a mix of mics and the sound from the Pickup. My Guitarist was round today so we recorded a couple of samples with a handheld recorder, this is the bass with Innovations honeys on: Here are the pics, let me know if you'd like pictures of any specific parts. 8. Congratulations. We went last year for my Wife's 30th. One of my highlights was a central park bike tour it was great few hours and the guide was very knowledgeable, this should be good entertainment for the kids. Top of the Rock (Rockerfeller centre) at sunset is great, we booked this for our first night so we could get a feel for NYC. As my mate said - 'if you go up the Empire State you can't see the Empire State' afterall the Empire State Building is part of the skyline you're up there to see. If you get the free Staten Island ferry it goes right past the statue of liberty and costs nothing. Just walking around the place and exploring is great - but have a plan i.e we're walking from here to here via these places. Walk or cycle Brooklyn Bridge. Definitely get over to Brooklyn, i'ts good to get a different perspective and see Manhattan from afar. Go to the Baseball - we went to the Metz and had a great evening out. Katz deli is good but be careful of the rules or they'll shout at you! Loads of great pizza places too. We did a Green Bus company open top bus tour - not recommended. The bus was terrible and none of the headsets worked so we couldn't hear the guide - there are better companies. If you don't know about Air BNB and haven't booked accommodation have a look a look at the site - https://www.airbnb.co.uk/ you can stop in peoples apartments or houses often cheaper than 'official' apartment rentals .
9. I just had a set of presto jazzicato tungsten strings fitted. Very low tension and easy on the fingers. But they're a pretty low gauge. The original jazzicato may be thicker and I'd recommend them as an alternative to the Innovations.
10. I recently had a bass set up by Sam Wells in Altrincham. If you give him a call he might know people around who are selling basses? He's a really friendly and very knowledgeable. Here's his website http://www.doublebassrepairs.co.uk He did have an old German bass with hat pegs for sale, I was too scared to ask how much!
11. If you've got an android or ios device you could download ireal pro. It's an app that let's you put chord progressions in and then plays them back to you. It's primarily used by jazz guys but on the song forums there's all kinds of stuff. You can also see where the chords change on the player so this might help you? I practice with this all the time.
12. It could just be that this Polish bass player has a mate who has a courier service and happens to be coming your way? As long as you get the cash before handing over the goods all should be good. Especially as it's happening at your place of work? I'd create a delivery note and get some ID from the guy (maybe photocopy his driving licence?) if you're unsure?
13. Was just listening to this this morning. I'm thinking I might have a bash at this this week. Probably is Jamareo Artis doesn't he play with Bruno Mars who also appears on this?

I just have a wedding/party playlist on Spotify and plug my laptop into the PA. I have Spotify set up to 'mix' the songs into each other and the songs are in an order that works as the evening progresses. I also have a jazz dining playlist and acoustic covers playlist for during meals and reception drinks etc. I often share the playlist with a bride and groom and ask them to add any of their favourites. This way my playlist builds without me doing much work 😀
15. I 2nd the Berlingo multispace. I have one, I can get the PA, my amp and upright, guitar and his gear easily in the back. On electric gigs I can get drums and drummer in too!get a multispace, you'll never look back!
16. After a week at my Mum's then the in laws my body will have doubled anyway 🐖but I am missing it. Can't wait to play it with jazz band.
17. That is a beauty. I'd love a Kay one day.
