2. I've got a pre EB Stingray. It's nice, probably is cool to own, but the new ones are brill as well. If it got nicked I'd just go and buy a new stingray cos' I like them. I wouldn't pay a premium or wait for an another pre EB one to come up.
  3. Thanks Stevie, Salfords much better for me. Will give your guy a ring.
  4. I've had a look through the reccomends but is there anyone nearer than Stockport or Liverpool ? LH500's buggered so I'm back to using my underpowered trace at the mo. Thanks Les
  5.
I'm up for that! Youtube leebass69 to give you an idea Tony
Leebass, did you see this ? NorthWestBands
  6.
I have genuine love for the people in my bands but I've known most of them a long time, I guess I must be lucky.
Fortunately that's the same situation for me. I do however occasionaly have the urge to tear the guitard's heart out and eat it in front of him whilst watching the light go out in his eyes. BUT I've known him for ever and, apart from when he provokes these urges by his gitleeness, love him to bits.
  7. I've quite surprised myself by lusting after that.

    Hartke LH500
Have you ever had a sound man have a problem with the Hartke DI? Cheers,
Only had mine for about 5 gigs. Never use a soundman but I'm always DI'd into our PA. No problems, nice signal to the desk, pre eq and volume, sounds good through the PA.
  9.
Who is the band Alan...? Hope its not Sabre...cos damn....that would be a bad gig....
10. Know what you mean JLP. Thing is it's been hanging up under the bed so to speak for nearly 30 years. Bit of a shame really. If I could get on with the scale I'd play it too. It sounds good. I got it when I was about 16 or 17 for about £50 and I loved it, then I bought my first full scale bass, a Precision, and that was that. Maybe I had smaller hands etc. when I was 16 or 17. Les
  11.
If you're expecting a single (back towards the bridge) pickup bass to sound thin, a really good Ray may blow all of your preconceptions out of the water! I'm certainly impressed, anyway. Rich.
Agreed. Mine sounds anything but thin.
  12.
I recently got a used Ibanez ATK off here for £245 -
Funnily enough I use a 79 ray at the mo but I'm thinking about getting an Ibanez, the SR500, to use as my gigging bass.
  13. Thanks one and all for the info. As to what price to ask I'm as confused as ever now. Probably worth more to a collector than a player.
  14.
The neck is dated Oct '69 (the last three numbers stamped on the neck) which matches the serial number, so that's a more likely realistic date of assembly.
Thanks Musky thats useful
I think that out of the three ''competition stripe'' series , this nice orangey colour is the rarest. These were available in red/blue/orange from '68-'71 if I remember correctly. If this was in 'showroom' condition, it would probably go for around £7-800.00 Being a BC I would have offered around £600.00 and have been very happy. This one looks cool in a punk way It's missing the rubber thingy's in the saddle. (shouldn't be too hard to find) Not sure of the value of yours tho' . Why not keep it,hang up or something? Looks nice...
It does look quite good actually Ray. I've had it a very long time and it's time to move it on to someone who'll hopefully play it. I can't get on with the scale. Thanks for the pricing info. Les
  15. Thanks guy's. So the butterbean tuners are worth something, any idea how much I should ask for the butterbean tuners if I leave the bass attached to them ?
  16. Decide to stop being sentimental and get rid of this to fund a purchase. I was told years ago that it was a 68, not sure but don't think thats far off. It's been refretted many years ago cos' it had so much wear it wasn't playable. It all works as it should and could do with a decent set up and a clean. It has 17 411 109B stamped on the body end of the neck. So if you can help please, any ideas how old it is, and what should I be looking for it ? Will obviously put it on here before ebay. 17. Thats really nice mate. Apart from the reverb what are using ?
  18. Haven't tried the others but have recently moved from Trace to the Hartke LH500 and I'm very happy with it. Not a lot of knobs and buttons and that suits me. And it's plenty loud enough. Les
  19. I'm fortunate not to have been messed about much like this, but your right, reading this and the many "should I leave my band" topics on here it does seem rife. An audition is a two way street though. If they've give you songs to learn then forget what they asked you to learn and the guitarist is an arrogant loud prat, well surely they failed their audition to be your band ?
  20. There you go GrayBoy. That should have cleared everything up for you. You can manage with either 130watts, 150watts, 180watts, 300watts, 450watts or 500watts. It's a bit of a minefield. Delbert makes a good point about placement and direction of your speaker/combo, used to put my 4 x 10 side on across the stage when I played in club cabaret bands, now we only play pubs and I can only think of 3 this year that have had a "stage" using the term loosely, and none of them had enough room to place the cab like that. The other thing with pubs is that quite often your much closer to the drummer than you would choose to be if you had a biggish stage to play on. Maybe that has a bearing on things. Assuming from your original post that you have PA enough to go through then your requirements are to get over the drummer to your satisfaction not fill the room with your own amp. Where are you located ? I'm in the north west and have a Trace AH150 and Trace 4 x 10 that you'd be welcome to try before you splash your cash. Les
  21.
Will need something that'll handle Foo Fighters covers assuming the drummer is putting in the Taylor Hawkins style effort.
That's my band that is. Had a similar problem, see this thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61894&hl=Les If your drummer's loud, ours is, you will need quite a bit of power. I ended up with 2 trace cabs and a 500watt Hartke amp. Thats just on stage monitoring. It then goes through the PA.Job done.
  22.
Sounds like a plan!
It does. Just got to decide whether to sell this or this to fund my cunning plan.
  23. DON'T SELL IT ! My 79 ray lived under the bed for 14 years, now it's being played again and I'm so glad I never sold it.
  24. Thanks for your input guys. So it looks like if I find a bass that gives me the tone differential I want for fingers on the bridge pup and plec on the neck pup then a little bit of setting up in pup heights should even out any level issues. Never been one to use the tone controls on basses, everything full on for me, so the idea of flicking a switch between the only 2 sounds I'm looking for appeals. The G&L does look a good place to start.
