OK, at the risk of being laughed off the forum and having my fingers broken, I have to learn this song for tomorrow night. Aaaaaaarrrgh!
:lol::lol::lol::lol: Rick Astley - when Mustang Sally or Robbie Williams just aren't degrading enough.
  2.
I actually have more guitars than basses (4:2 ratio)
That's almost 2:1!
  3.
That reminds me, we also thought the sound of the kit lacked dynamics. Could be the drummer not being used to the kit (he sounded great on an acoustic kit and certainly can play well) but there was something too "drum machine" about the snare, it just didnt seem have the dynamics of a real snare live, even though it sounded very good.
Even the best V-drum snares with the full mesh heads don't have much variation in sound. An electric kit with an acoustic snare / cymbals / hi-hat would be cool. But live everything sounds crap anyway: good equipment and sh*t equipment, 'cos the sound engineers are always pants.
  4.
The electric kit is superior in all of these aspects: - you can get 1,000 different sounds out of it - you can turn the drums down or up in the mix - the load in and out is an absolute piece of cake
I prefer acoustic kits by a long way. But all of what was said above is true.
  5.
Prices are a little high, but hey, there's nothing to stop you walking in and trying out what you want, and then buying cheaper on the net somewhere.
They 'price-beat' so you should definitely tell them what price you were quoted and where - and they'll beat it!

  7. I'd say get a secondhand SWR 350. This one. Noone will want to take responsibility for your new choice of amp. And you live in London - all the country's best bass shops are in your city. You should listen to recommendations to help narrow down your search and clue you up as to reliability problems but you can't decide which sounds best to you without hearing it first. That's why noone will want to give you any advice on which amp to get.
  8.
My local music shop is really bad and stocks nothing, so i cant try any thing out. i just have to rely on what you guys tell me!
Noone's going to give you any advice now. Get the one you were thinking about getting before. The Hartke Hybrid head. EDIT: This one.
  9. That's great. I know I'd have to wait my turn until you've run through a few more of the basics but I'd love to read a section on reharmonization and specifically some of the most common chord substitutions.
  10. Sorry, mate. Not a fantastic deal. Not a complete rip-off either. Very good bass though - what are the tweaked electronics? Could make a difference to the value. Mzungu - that's Swahili for "whitey". Interesting choice of name!
  11. Hah, I tried to get your drummer to join my band a couple of years ago. She was very polite about not being all that interested. She's a good drummer!
  12. Excellent. Looking forward to it.
  13. Love Foolosophy - Jamiroquai. Complete by-the-numbers non-tune BUT Nick Fyffe's finest moment in Jamiroquai.
  14. Walnut and Macasser Ebony. Yum.
  15. The only two bass amp manufactured wedges I've heard of are the Eden and the GK. I saw that BFM has one which is designed to accomodate bass frequencies.
  16.
The dispersion is inversely proportional to the size of the source.
Is this a stupid question: does this mean generally that the smaller the speaker the greater the dispersion BUT the smaller the speaker the higher the frequency range AND the higher the frequency range the smaller the dispersion?
  17. L1zz1e - Click here. Edit: Oh yeah, you should tell people where you're based.
  18.
So that we don't have to cover our bits when we get out of the shower..
You should not have said that and put your mobile number up. There's a bassist on here who might be good for you. Let me just find a link to her profile...
  19. As the guys in the band, it should come from you, not people outside the band.
  20.
i don't know maybe i just need to leave and find something else, though i enjoy playing with the other guys (don't even go there )
What? Steal the lead guitarist and drummer? I think it's your duty to take them out of a band with a singer who can't sing and doesn't care.
  21.
any suggestions?
Yes. Tell him that he is not pulling his weight and that after 2 years it's a f***ing disgrace not to know the words to your songs yet. Time to throw him out. If he gets better it'll be such a long-term gradual thing that from week to week and gig to gig any improvement will hardly be noticeable.
  22.
I didn't get a wedding ring... I don't do jewellery. I got this instead: Mrs. WoT was horrified when I sold it...
Add me to the horrified list.

    RIP Leftysteve

Condolences to his friends and family. Sorry to hear about this.
  24.
I'm getting married next year
Don't do it! All that stuff that was yours once - you know, all that cool sh*t you've collected over the years? Yeah, that stuff. It'll all be deemed junk and eventually relegated to the attic/shed/charity shop. The wedding ring won't affect your bass playing as much as the resulting abject misery and self-loathing will.
  25. Not a stupid idea but the thread might just get too big for people to keep track of all the items.
