I think the best way to describe what i'm looking for is variations of the theme and runs between chord changes and into the turnarounds.
Ah, you need a licks book! When you've already nicked all the ones you like from other players and when you're stuck on coming up with new ones, a book is the way to go. I'd get a book of blues licks for guitar - some of them might be useful. There's also a great book called Patterns For Jazz by Jerry Coker and a bunch of other guys. That should have some useful stuff in there for you.

I take a DI with me as back-up but I could start taking my Eden WTX-260 along as well.
I've seen reviews reporting that an amp running at 4 ohms can put out a fuller tone than when it's running at 8 ohms. If that is the case then there could be benefits other than volume when using a 4 ohm cab.
Back in the day, weren't there alleged benefits to running an amp at 8 ohms instead of 4?
I can't even manage OFPF in first position on 34"...
You're not supposed to. Your third and fourth fingers are supposed to double up.
I have one. Whatever you do, make sure you don't get the MkI version. The locks have a tendency to pop off with any sudden jolt if the tangs aren't bent back sufficiently. I've managed to bend mine back but it took a set of mini mole grips to do it. The MkII versions apparently had this design issue resolved. Also, keep an eye on the wheels, I've had a situation where the attaching bolt on one of mine came loose and I lost both the wheel and the bolt . They're easy enough to get from a well stocked skate shop but finding a shop like that is another thing entirely if you live outside London...
Is that my old one? I only had it for one trip but I understand you gig abroad fairly regularly. How many trips has it lasted so far?

Bloody hell. These female bassists who can sing, play, dance and generally look cool at the same time make me sick. Make me feel inferior at one thing at a time, please - otherwise it's just not fair.

My cousin plays like a girl. I always take the mick out of him for it. But I play a bit too hard really.

You know, there's not much to it. You just need to be able to play walking lines or riff-based stuff, depending on the tune/feel, be comfortable with swing, shuffle, Bo Diddley and straight feels, and you need to know your way around the various different variations of 12-bar blues - and if you know how 16-bar and 8-bar blues go, that's a bonus. Wikipedia's great for all this stuff.

Thursday night. It's very relaxed and informal but there are still some very good players from time to time. Starts at 8.30pm and finishes about 3 hours later. I think the address is 105 Charterhouse Street.

Seems pointless to me. I can see how the Epifani way of doing things is different to the AccuSwitch but it's a "solution" to a problem which doesn't exist - not for me anyway.

I remember reading something on the Acme website about how it's done and how it's a con-job. Can't find the link now though.

I can't see Vintage Ben's original post now. Like I said before, I like the place (in London).
Not Islington, but not so far away is Ain't nothing but... in Kingly St, W1 every Monday. http://www.myspace.com/mondaybluesjam
And another jam organised by the same people is on near the Barbican, very near to Islington, at The Smithfield Tavern. I usually play there and they have a shortage of bass players so you'd definitely get on at least once.

Any of you on the London toilet circuit will know that it's actually quite small and incestuous. The names of other people's bands start to get familiar. Anyway, my friend's band is doing a gig with Run Don't Walk. I seem to recall seeing that in someone's sig as their band name but there are no search results for it in the forum. So what I'm trying to ask is: 1. Which BC member is in Run Don't Walk 2. Is there any way of having a BC members' band directory somewhere on the site - either a sticky or in the wiki 3. Why don't more of you use the Gigs sub-forum - if any of you are playing near me when I'm not busy I'll go and watch you 4. Any chance of a BC calendar, listing birthdays, bashes, gigs etc?
Prince is underrated as a bass player...
I don't know anyone who can play that opening bass fill on Alphabet Street.
Whats the action set to? If its set too low you can lose clarity on the notes, try raising the action a bit and try again.
And if it's too high, don't the notes come out too quietly? The other thing to check would be how you're EQing the bass on your preamp and on your amp. What's wrong with boosting the treble if that's what's not coming through?

It matches your Salt The Wound colour scheme. Wicked. I like it. I especially like the Chewbacca in the right hand corner. My guitar player was talking about getting our cab grill cloths painted with the colours of our ancestral flags. I think he saw some other band do it. And drummers always used to get the band name/logo stamped on their bass drum skin.

Personally, I think Mariah Carey is an exceptionally good singer - who sings exceptionally boring songs. And hey, one person's w***fest is another person's bukkake party.

^ What he said. Hey, what's with this criz/crez followed by a number thing? Are you related?

I didn't know Richie Koetzen was in Mr Big. Billy Sheehan's cool. There's no point pretending otherwise. Even with that ponytail.

Why learn to play the other way round? You'd have to sell your Warwick Thumb. You've got a Warwick Thumb and a Fender Jazz. You don't need any other basses. You've got way too much spare time on your hands if you're even considering this (and worrying about buying more basses). If you're not busy enough in the band you're in, start playing in a couple more bands as well.
