Warwick $$ sounds good, get better tone, dont look as good Gibson Thunderbird, hard to get great mids and upper tone to shine through, but looks cool as f***. decisions decisions what do you reckon chaps a bit better in tone (probably only me would notice anyway) or looking good?
Stop farting around and worry about what you're going to wear! Take the $$
  2.
Nostalgia is a thing of the past mate. 10 points for whoever knows which Irish band had that line in one of their tunes.
Oh, I know this. It was either Boylife or Westzone.
  3.
Made me angry. Heard most of it before but the bit I got annoyed at was the fact that we had a long interview with Charlie Haden, stories about Eugene Wright (who?) and the usual 'wasn't Mingus angry' anecdotes but, again, no memtion of Paul Chambers. Same old, same old.
A good angle for your book, I think. The bass legend who noone ever talks about.
  4.
i remember when this used to be all fields
Ole Man Peabody had this crazy idea of breeding pine trees...
  5. Patterns for Jazz (bass clef) by Jerry Coker et al. Very well laid out. I haven't started going through it yet.
  6. Ah, Wayne the bald black dude with a blonde Precision? Nice guy. Used to be a session drummer before becoming a session bassist. He's pretty adept at both! Glad you had a great time. Let me know about June - I'll make sure I'm free that evening and I'll see you down there!
  7. I started a battery thread somewhere. There are some excellent deals online for 9V batteries.
  8. What an absolute arse! If your amp is still working, it's still working. I've made that mistake before once - but with my own equipment, not someone else's!
  9.
3. The sound of the string you're landing on only actually makes a sound if you allow that string to contact another part of the bass.
I watched some of that Gary Willis tutorial on youtube and he kept accidentally pinching harmonics slightly with each rest stroke.
  10. Get a pedal with some valves in it. My DHA pedal with 2 valves sounds MEATY and THUNDEROUS!
  11.
That's what I mean, I've never gotten a horrid, unusable sound -- it's always sounded nice. I can't see where people are going wrong?
Woollier than a Christmas jumper from my limited experience. I'm sure people who own them can tweak the controls to get something usable.
  12.
I found the best results came from running only low frequencies through the 15 and running the 410TX full range. I always felt that running on top end through the 10s lacked something.
That's what I used to do with my Hartke 2x10 and 1x15. 2x10 - full range, 1x15 - lows only. Only trouble was that the 1x15's driver wasn't really up to the task.

    DHA - DI
Not really sure what the advantage is to be honest! But all high end DI's have this and it's simple to do so I did it. With Ploat you still have a ground connection via the 10R resistor and 99 times out of 100 this will fix ground loop hums but when it does not the ground Float will do the job. I am sure one of the brighter BC members will know why and will be along soon It's Pin 1 on the XLR that is connected to ground or not via the ground lift switch and not to be confused with the cable screen that is always connected to ground.
Thanks for that! I don't need the science part, just what it does. Sounds like a very useful feature!

    DHA - DI
Float disconnects the ground completely and Ploat connects to ground via 10R resistor and 100nF cap in parallel.
Thanks for the explanation. Next question: what's the advantage of Ploat and when would you use it?
  15. Wow. That's a lot of bass for < £500.
  16. Where are you based?
  17. So noone's seen, heard or tried one yet? I like the idea of pairing one with my Barefaced cab.
  18. If you're going to spend over £2000 on a bass head, give Denis Cornell a call. He makes Clapton's amps. For £2000 he'll design any bass head you want to your specifications.

    DHA - DI
It will be an XLR balanced DI (same design as the EQ) with a 3 position ground switch - ground, Float and Ploat
Float and Ploat?

    Mr Dirty

People always speed up when someone presses the record button, especially if you don't have much time to get the recording done.
  21. I got to try one of these in Sound Control before it disappeared. I was very impressed with it but just didn't have the cash to buy one.

I like all the ideas. You guys probably need to be just a little bit tighter though for the full effect to come across. Either your drummer or your guitarist or both are rushing a bit. Wicked riffs and grooves though.
  23.
I think we should be honest though and admit there's a certain amount of prestige that comes from owning an instrument that is coveted by other players. And those owners don't deserve to be singled out for criticism any more than players who deliberately opt for value for money instruments either.
I remember as a kid dreaming about the day I might be good enough to own a Warwick. I remember popping into The Gallery after 9 years of playing to buy my first ever Warwick. It was such an event for me that I took 3 friends along. It turns out that the only two types of basses that suit my playing are Warwicks and Fender Jazzes. You need to get equipment that's right for you and suits your needs, both in terms of tone and playability. If you're after something very specific and slightly unusual it can cost a lot of money to get right.
  24.
i'm all for dampening using my plucking hand, i feel restricted using my fretting hand to dampen. That could cause me problems when getting into slapping though so probably need to think about that??
Most of the notes I play when slapping are ghost notes so all the higher strings will be dampened anyway - and your thumb will probably be taking care of the lower strings anyway.
  25. I remember at the end of a fairly long gig a couple of years ago (4 hours) I looked at my fingers and saw that I'd developed a callus over a blood blister! It looked disgusting so of course I kept showing it to everyone.
