I have my 2nd gig with a new band coming up on Thursday. We're a good old no nonsense rock/indie band. Good catchy songs. Playing at the Rhythm Factory, nr Whitechaple. A couple of other bands/acts are playing also. Should be a good night if anyone is interested. Its part of a new promotion venture set up my our keyboardist in providing fairer gigs to bands. http://mostrated.com All bands get paid (although we're donating our payment to a charity) Anyway, come along if you're local Hercules Rockafella

This is something I have been dealing with. I found its mainly due to my action being too high, meaning I have to make more effort in fretting. Lowering my action has pretty much sorted it for me.

Thats awesome. Im going to order one of the iRig things now. Just sold my iPad in anticipation for the new one.

Bought my Roland Bass cube. Nice and simple deal. Pleasure to deal with!

I'd suggest try it out at rehearsal. You may be surprised. If the guy dont take it back you'll easily sell it on here for what you paid. I'd be interested in having it off you for a start!

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

Here are a few of me from last week. I left my smile at home unfortunately. -
As bit of a GK fan boi my answer probably isn't going to be surprising. I'd go for the GK. Theres a good review in the latest BGM. Got 5 stars there...
Here's what I said on 24th Jan.. "I've just picked the RV4 Rickenfaker up from a service. The E string was rattling a bit behind the fret so I guessed (correctly) that the nut was cut too low on the bass side. They've put in a tiny ebony wedge under the nut that has sorted this completely. Also done were a truss rod tweak, fret dress, all pots, switches and jack upgraded, copper shielding of the cavity and interestingly the neck tone control changed to a variable coil tap. It really has completely upped the performance of the bass in every way. I'm chuffed to bits. The action is now fast and low. There were four Ric's in the shop. Two 4001's and two 4003's and the tech said it blew them all away in playability. He was very impressed with it. Hence him doing lots of extra stuff to it that I didn't ask for at no cost! It still sounds more like a turbo charged precision and nothing like a Ric though which is OK by me." I don't know how to say this but it appears to have relegated my much loved US Precision to a back up at the moment. I love this bass now. They're great but they do need a bit of money spending on them. Well worth it though. Really chunky, growly sound that sits well in the band mix. Live band video will be up soon.
Where did you get that work done? I want to chuck mine in somewhere to get a good going over...

I have one and absolutely love it. Gigged it a couple of weeks ago and got nothing but good comments about the look and sound of it. Its sound live is somewhere between a P and a Jazz. Its got the thump of a P, but the honk of a jazz. The Bridge pickup solo'd is very Musicman like. There are one or two minor issues. Im going to replace the nut, the jack, and maybe tuners. Im thinking about getting a U Retro Deluxe for it too...

Does anyone know where I can get a truss rod cover made. I want one with my band name (Rockafella) on. I want one as close looking as a Rickenbacker one as possible. Ie Font.... Or has anyone any tips on making one myself?
Argh! Just when I'd convinced myself that that I had too many (or even enough) basses. I'm just back from a rehearsal when I put my RV4 through my new MXR DI+ and totally loving it. The action on the E string is just a bit low, and the rattle was sounding great! So now I'm going to bring the other strings down to meet it... and I only have one fretless at the moment, which needs a bit of work, so I'll need another one for when it goes into the hospital, won't I?
Too many basses?? Go wash your mouth out! There's no such thing Mine is set up with a tad of rattle when I dig in and sounds awesome. Its definitely the best £260 I have spent in a long time.

What lightweight rig will give me a clear, warm sound ?
No kidding, my current rig weighs roughly the same as a fully grown planet. I only use one cab most of the time but hauling it to practices is still a royal pain in the ass. I love this rig and can't see me ever moving away from GK stuff, I've got no intentions of replacing it for gigging, but for practices and small acoustic-ish gigs, there's no need for a 1080w amp and even just one 4x10. MB Fusion 500 and 2 Neo 112s: 64.5lbs. 2001RB-II and 2 410RBHs: 234.5lbs Sounds good..
I bet! Sometimes you just can't beat raw power! -
I have been told by a few stores that GK stuff only comes in a few times a year. Perhaps you have just been told when the next lot may be in?
Aha, they're finally out then haha. I'll be looking to get one of these soon and pair it with a couple of GK Neo 112s. There's always the MB combos too.
Looking at your sig I bet your back can't wait! -

If you like the GK sound then its worth checking these out. http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_mb_fusion.htm When funds allow I will be getting one. Paired with a barefaced cab. Can't get much lighter, with enough power to handle almost any situation. -
