  1. Yours, I think? Same again, cheers
  2. Saturday: O'Neills Leicester. Our singer/guitarist was away, so we did it as a 3-piece. Played the EBMM Sterling for a change. Decent crowd, the new songs went down well, all good. Half way through the first set playing one of the Rock 'n' Roll numbers, the singer unexpectedly introduces me to the crowd and shouts the two most bone-chilling words known to mankind.... "Bass Solo!" The colour drains from my face. Time stops. My hands turn to lead. I forget everything I have ever known about music. I am suddenly seven years old... cold, lost, lonely and afraid, adrift on an ocean of self-doubt. My life flashes before my eyes. The earth stops turning. I very nearly soil myself. The ghosts of my ancestors arise and turn up to watch. I pray for the sweet release of death. Time restarts, autopilot kicks in and I blunder through a barely servicable attempt at a solo as the sweat gushes from my every pore. The crowd goes ballistic, the whole place erupts in a frenzy of whooping and hollering. Joy is unconfined. Fireworks go off. That soldier kisses that woman in Times Square. Grown men weep tears of joy. World peace is declared. I recieve several offers of marriage. My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair. Oh, and the van's turbo unit broke on the way home, we had to limp up the M6 at 40mph. Terrifying, but not as bad as having to do a solo.
  3. I bought a wireless from Lozz196, great comms, good item and quick postage.
  4. One big one and one little one. MarkBass CMD121P for not going through the PA gigs (or realy big stages) and Markbass 802 for everything else. Always with a Sansamp in front of it!
  5. I'm pretty sure Tom Baker battled him in the mid 70s
  6. That looks amazing... One for the wish list!
  7. Thanks for the recommends, I've opted for a second hand IKEA Franklin from ebay... two for twenty quid! Cheers
  8. I'm after a stool/chair for playing DB - ideally adjustable helght, foldable and with a backrest. Happy to compromise on one of those if necessary. Cheers
  9. Is this still available? EDIT: Just noticed the date, guessing it's not?!
  10. Had an absolute corker tonight at O'Neills in Harborne, Birmingham. Typical Saturday night pub stuff, the place was packed and they loved it. You know it's good when the bouncers and bar staff are singing along. The drummer had to play standing up as he had eight stitches in his leg on Tuesday... he didn't miss a beat, possibly because he can't drink 'cos of the antibiotics. My IEM mix was perfect, so I got excited and came up with some new BVs on the hoof and I'll have you know some of them sounded OK. 70s reissue P Bass through the Sansamp VTDI sounded stellar as ever. A good nights work!
  11. I just got my StingRay out after not using it for a bit, and the strings (LaBella DTFs) sound really flat, dead and dull, and they feel kind of... plastic-y? Last time I used it, they sounded fine. Any idea what could cause this? Do they need cleaning? Changing? Any advice welcome.
  12. Anything By Knowle Gallaghers High Flying Birds or the St Andrews sisters? Wake Green up before you go-go. Frankley Mr Shankly Get Lickey
  13. I was born in Small Heath! I'm OK now though.
  14. I've got a five way daisy chain you can have if you want? PM me
  15. Cheers, enjoy the Flea pickups!
  16. I bought a VBT S/P loom from John -he was a total pleasure to deal with.
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I finally decided on a set of Bartolinis, so bought some from Bass Direct. They turned up with broken lugs (on my birthday! Boooo!) so they went straight back. Full refund including return postage the minute they got them back, top marks to Ash at BD. As luck would have it, a set of Lindy Fralin 5% Overwound (the very ones recommended by @Bigguy2017 ) appeared on ebay the next day, so I snapped them up for eighty quid less than a new set. Get in! I also went for a @KiOgon VBT loom with S/P pot, which is a beautifully made little thing. It all went to the luthier yesterday (I need a grownup to do that sort of thing for me, I'm barely allowed to handle safety scissors), I should have it back today or tomorrow... I'm like a toddler on christmas eve. @Raslee Thanks for the offer, I'm sure they're lovely, please sell them to @krispn ! Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
  18. I finally got a set of these (used from BC) and they're on the ABG. They're fine with the bridge pins, and so far they play and sond great. Thanks for all the input, folks!
  19. I bought a set of LaBella white flats from Chiliwailer - top comms, nice item, quick postage, top marks. Cheers!
  20. It's still there, and seems to get more bonkers every time you drive through it.
  21. Birmingham's a fantastic city, but the locals like to keep the rest of us thinking it's still a dystopian soviet hellscape to stop people moving there from London and ruining it 🙂
  22. Tonight: The Rifleman's Arms in Droitwich. Four piece HEAVY rock band with one and a half rehearsals. The guitarist's 4x12 Blackstar (?) stack was louder than a Supernova, the drummer was a metalhead with a double kick pedal who played everything at 200mph. It was SO loud, I couldn't hear my BVs, my VTDI (set to Ampeg SVT on steroids) through my Big Boy amp (Markbass CMD121P) was roaring away at the back somewhere. No setlist, seat of my pants and skin of my teeth. EBMM Sterling, Rock 8th notes all night, I got blisters, tinnitus and a headache. Dynamics: LOUD. Nuance: none. The audience were animals, shouts for Slayer, Megadeath, Cannibal Corpse (!) and Napalm Death. It was BRILLIANT.
