1. Lyrics first is always easier. There's a structure to combine the musical bits then. Even though you invariably end up editing lyrics and music again once they're together.
  2.
Department S wasn't it?....didn't Mr King get caught with a lorry driver's 'load' in his hand, in a motorway service station? ...that guy was always drinking as I remember, had interesting fashion sense, and drove a Jenson Interceptor...don't remember seeing any bass though?
I have Peter Wyngarde's solo album. It's................interesting.
  3.
Nothing in so much as there is really nothing wrong with the Precision as it is , but I think inserts and stainless / brass set screws with allen heads is a better / more durable way to do things from an engineering aspect. Screws are perfectly good ( and a hell of a lot easy and cheaper than set screws) after all most of the man made world is screwed together, I just think its 'cheap' on a £750.00 bass . There said it ! rant over Edit: plus lots of people complain of chewing up the heads and not knowing how tight to do up the screws if the neck ever comes off. Maybe they are a leftover from the early days when the basses generally needed shimming on setup ? Edit 2: or so I've been told, me not being either a Fender fan or aficionado, so what do I know ?
Valid point. If I was offered a better engineered neck joint Fender correctness would happily be out the window. My spare Precision that I assembled from parts has Ikea bed frame screws holding the neck on*. I forgot where I put the ones I'd bought specially. Held up very well for 7 years with the neck on and off a few times. I'm not hung up on parts being exactly like the vintage Fenders. *I have lots of great ideas after pub lunches....
  4. Clarky bought my Simenon pickup. He paid me straight away and was very easy to deal with. I didn't feel dirty afterwards or anything. Glad to have a piece of me in 'Sid'
  5.
Attach the neck properly ! nothing else.
Genuine question. What's wrong with the way it's on?
  6. My perfect precision would be: Neck - Fat 50s but with a rosewood board. Satin finished. Clay dots. Large print side markers. The lightweight clover leaf tuners as per my S1. Headstock with ADG string tree matched to the body colour. I have no problems adjusting the truss rod on my S1, The U shaped adjustment channel works fine for me. Body - Ash with a string through BBoT. Painted CAR in nitro with three white competition stripes. Blk/W/Blk scratchplate with some 1mm triangular notches on the underside for wedging spare plectrums in. Electrics - Wizard Thumper - vol & tone. I want it to sound like a beefy precision. Versatility be damned. No silly jazz or MM pups cluttering it up. No covers or rests That'd be just the ticket.
  7. Down with electrickery on a Precision. Keep it Luddite. Bent bit of tin and all.
  8. A string tree that extends to include the A string. Err...that's it.
  9.
It looks very similar to an Avon SG bass i had, complete cr*p.
I had an Avon SG as my first ever bass. It was really, really horrible. I played one that was for sale at a car boot recently and it was just as awful as I remembered. I'd turn that Columbus into a wall clock or a coffee table.
  10. Swap it with a guitar type for a Bad Monkey. They do work on bass.
  11. I used that Dimarzio for a couple of years. I'd say it was about thumper plus 10% on the output. It's not got as high an output as the modern one with the embossed logo I have in my back up precision but as Clarky says it's got a very nice sound.
  12.
Bugger - just registered here and bagged a 715X off ebay. Would have gone with this had I seen earlier as I am relatively local. Sorry, didn't mean to taunt you!
I'll take it as a free bit of bumpage Now sold to CARLSIM. Thanks Carl.
  13.
Naaah! They don't make a bass that would be big enough ...
Hmm. You told me you were after a short scale the other day....

If the QC and playability could be confirmed I'd be interested.

  17. Impending trip to the US with no spare bass buying cash if this doesn't sell. Have pity on a poor peasant type bump.
  18. Scratchplate from a cruelly culled albino tortoise too.
  19. I'll have to be the mid rebel. As a change I had a go at pushing the mids up at a recent rehearsal. I dominated the band mix and it sounded really 'rubbery' to my ears. Hated it. I'm no slapper either. I like lots of bass and a bit of treble zing. Mind you I'm in a three piece so there are lots of 'gaps' and it works well. I guess if I was in a band with more going on I may be tempted to use a bit more mid. The sound person is there to help me. Not the other way around. I am always incredibly nice and polite to them too though and offer to buy them a pint and listen to what they have to say carefully so I nearly always sound decent.
  20.
This isn't a new phenomenon. I met too many people like this 30 years ago.
Honestly I've changed now.

    Vinyl LP

We're in the studio with a 'name' producer over the next few months recording an albums worth of material. Said producer chap has come up with the idea of us putting it out on vinyl. A lot of our likely audience are in the same age bracket as us and will still be vinyl junkies who like tangible music. This makes sense and apparently the new Paul Weller LP has sold really well on vinyl too. Anybody done this. What sort of cost were you looking at all in? I will obviously do my own research but a head start will help.
  22. Any good shops in the Seattle area too? I'm there at the end of this month.

  25. I love my TC cabs. Apart from the stupid micron thin paint. They're black too. Boring. I'd like to have them covered in some nice orange or white tolex or whatever it's called to match the Terror Bass and also look a bit funkier on stage. I'm too cack handed and would bodge it if I tried it myself. Any suggestions?
