1. No worries Peter, coming up your way again soon mate... may 2nd, bootleggers, kendal
2. Suggs = Sugden (I was responding to his question)
3.
Yeah makes sense in waiting for the price to drop a bit. I can see me picking one up at some point as well. Whatever the case though it's a lot cheaper than the classic 300 anyway! How's the lows on it Al? I know they're centred at 80Hz. I presume this gives a nice tight bottom?
The bottom end sounded really tight to my ears, the overal sound is rich and warm with a hint of compression, it was love at first twang. If my missus hadn't dragged me out of the store I would still be playing through it now. Bitch. I was hoping to try a Shuttle Suggs but they're as rare as well...a rare thing and every dealer I spoke to about them had sold most if not all of the stock they had on order.
4. I did but he didn't have any in stock but he's expecting some in soon.
5. I used to play like a guitarist cos I was a guitarist. Then I started having lessons about 6 months ago and now I play like a bassist. That's the answer if you can find / afford a good bass tutor like mine.
6. I used a Lakland DJ (similar to mine). I was ABC'ing it with a LMII and an F1. The F1 was very good but I couldn't hear anything to justify the extra - well near enough £200 over the LMII TBH so that was a non-starter for me. The R500 just had a beautiful 'valvey' tone - warmer and grittier than the LMII, I particularly liked the sound up the dusty end and wished I had my Wizard Thumper / TI flats loaded Precision with me to try it. It was very light and beautifully simple to use - I don't like knobs, dials and flashing lights. I'm definitely buying one of these but I'm gonna wait and see if the price comes down a bit later in the year.
7. We had a great gig last night at The Black Bull in Preston - though it was almost spoilt by a couple of drunks who fell over the monitors crashing into pedal boards etc no less than 3 times and nearly knocking our lights over on two occasions. There's some idiots about isn't there.
8. I tried one of the new Markbass R500's today - which I think is basically a LMII with a valve in the preamp and, without any doubt in my mind I'll say it's the best sounding head I've ever heard. I would have bought it there and then but it was a demo model (and by the looks of it, had been for a while) and he didn't have another boxed one. If you're in the market for a hybrid amp try one.
9. Heads up for anyone wanting a Walkabout combo. Sound C*ntrol in Salford have a 12" and a 15" - both new and both going for £899. Just managed to resist buying the 15"
10. I tried the DD today - superb bass but I was able to resist. Phew.
11. + 1 for Alex's suggestion.
12. I was in a band with a guitarist like that - pain in the dirtbox. We got together before a gig one night and agreed to play a song a semitone lower without telling him - you should have seen his face . He retuned a semitone higher and we started the next song in the right key so he was out again. He got the message. :brow:
13. Just been to Soundsgreat Music near Manchester Airport and they had 5 Lakkies in. There was a 44-01, a 55-01, a LPB Darryl 4 (Maple board) and a white DJ5. There was also a luvly Bob in s/b with mint s/p and r/w board - it was a beaut and really hard to resist but alas I must, I must. Prices seemed ok apart from the Bob, which I thought was a bit expensive at £885 but IME with SGM, you can get a bit knocked off.
14. Fantastic Luke - makes we wanna go back to guitar ...not
15.
Shigarette and a voffle?I see I cant help you niceguyhomer!!Cheers for pics Al!!Come and wet t'babys head soon!!!
I vil Mustaffa I vil, throw me a frickin' bone here
16. I think black and tort looks ok when the fretboard is rosewood as in my P ...but not so good when it's a maple board as in my DJ Dutch accent ...yesh yesh yesh...more toit and far sexier black on black. Shmoke and a pancake?
17. I like a bass in CAR - my fav colour.
18. Markbass LMK two channel head with footswitch / Korg DTR 1000 rack tuner / SKB 3 U rack case - all vgc - £425 the lot - may consider trades for SA450 or similar head. Prefer to meet. Pics;
19. A bit old to be in a metal band methinks...
20. I've owned both Will - albeit the TRB was fretless and my Spector was a Euro and not the LX. Although IMO the Yammy is a superb bass and great value for money, again IMO, the Spector is in a different class. They sound very different too - the Spector is brighter, more aggressive and the output is huge whereas the Yammy has a warmer more trad sound. I don't think you can go wrong with either Will but the Euros and Euro LXs are phenominal basses with amazing build quality and components.
21. Nice P mate...how's our dog dog?
22. Yep - that'll be our gu*tarist Tony - a good man with a spanner.
23. Hello mate - another Prestonian here. I play in a half decent soul band - we're at The Black Bull this coming Saturday (19th) on Friargate if you've nowt to do. We could talk about Bluegrass too.
24. Thanks Jon, you're a true gent
Homer - go for it - glad you are having fun. I am playing with a load of guys who are about 5 years older than me. I grew up on the cusp of punk rock, for years the old music that preceeded punk sounded rather jaded to me, there is quite a sharp divide between pre - post 1976 as far as I was concerned. When we started playing covers I used to inwardly groan (not another Stones/Eagles number, not Sweet Home Alabama again please no etc.) but as I have got on with it I have found I like some material more and more. Like 'I need your love so bad' has made think about playing slowly and with a bit more feeling - less is more and all that. Even more fun, we have dabled with a bit of modern stuff like Kaiser Chiefs, Zutons, Travis, Stereophonics and having a ball playing that too even though I was probably a bit dismissive of it a year or two back. If you like what you are doing the audience will probably appreciate that more than whether you were able to slip in an augmented 13th chord, fretless bass solo, or a jolly clever sound on you multi effects unit. For those who do not know Homer he goes back a long way on this forum and in my rating a top bloke, if he is enjoying his music after a dry spell that's good enough for me.
25. Anyways my bass sounded great
