1. Bassfan bought my Lakland 44-02D Fantastic bass, but wasn't quite for me, and simply wasn't getting used! I'd still like to try a DJ4 & JO4 in anger though! Si
2. And that's why the 70's Jazzes have that burpy growl....much more fun than the 60's sound! I was kinda interested in one of these 70's MIMs, but then I went and bought a 1973 Jazz Si
3. Hmmm, I should check my cash converters more often! Si
4. Bump for 'trade' changes Si
5. It's basically a 70's version of my Standard US Jazz, so I'm happy and sorted with my setup now. No current outstanding GAS Well.......not for basses anyway Cabs next Si
6. Apparently Lars was pretty sloppy, although that really doesn't surprise me anymore! Si
7. I'm really liking that ESP!! Si
8. ...but this time...I'm the proud owner! I've been after an early 70's jazz for a while, and was gutted when I missed this the first time round, I consider myself very lucky that I had a second chance . I won't post all the same pictures again, I'll do some nice new ones asap, with me or something lol. Getting its first outings on thursday and saturday this week! Needed a slight setup tweak for my personal preferences, but the flatwounds it came with are still fitted. I haven't had flats on a bass in a few years so am enjoying the difference for a little bit, still growls like a mofo, but some Newtone Roundwounds 40-100 will be fitted in the next few weeks I should think! The bass has a fender reissue bridge on it now, as opposed to the schaller monstrosity pictured above, it also has Wizard pickups in it, the details of which I can't remember apart from that they're slightly overwound, but they sound pretty awesome to me so far! I'm using it without the (reissue) pickups covers or thumbrest that it came fitted with, they just get in my way . When finances permit, I'll be looking at getting a genuine early 70's bridge for it. I'm sure I'll add more to this post soon, I've had 2 and a half days with it, so lots more to explore ohhh yes! Si
9. Bump for significant price drop £1,100 ONO Cheers Si
10. And if anyone wants a tort pickguard for it, i've got one for sale! Good luck with the sale mate! Si
11. Am off to Paris tomorrow morning, and am staying near Montemarte, so will be checking out Rue Victor Masse Lovely! Si
12. Why would you hire a girl who might not be right for the job passed the fact that she has boobies and looks cute, over a guy who might be just right. It obviously works both ways, but just hiring someone to be 'cool' gets seen through almost instantly! Just hire a bass player! Si
13. It's like the sibling to my all white/maple precision Very cool Si
14.
Real natty bit of kit this, another one intended for a band that never came through so its up here if anyone is interested? Its in perfect condition and hardly used, and could be a great live tool. Very easy to load on and edit samples, and tonnes of space with a 1GB smart card included. 15.
Yes but that 1oz of wood makes all the difference tone wise.
The tone of mine is sublime!
Just to clarify - I was referring to the American Deluxe P and Jazz basses - as there is also a Fender Jazz Deluxe (active, non US) also available P
Yeah mine was a American Deluxe Jazz, completely failed to impress in every-way compared to my Standard US Si
16. Cheers Steve! You'll forever be the guy who so nearly supplied me with the pickups for it haha Si
17. My passive standard MIA jazz kicked the ass of the deluxe Jazz I had for a while....in every way! But I think that just highlights the fact that you should really just go out and play as many basses as you can, it's such a subjective thing! Si
18.
Who makes Lakland skylines & G&L Tributes? Cort
Even so, all things considered, I'd still rather have a Lakland or a G&L over a Cort, and when I say 'All Things', I mostly mean resale value lol Anyway, I do hear that the CIJ's are as good if not better than the MIA's, but seeing as they've just put their prices up, purchasing one with the same spec as the MIA's will now cost you a similar amount of bunce. The cheaper ones have bassword bodies etc, might as well buy a squier! Si
19. The cheeky beggar! I don't mind really cos he's a good mate (the 'Fell Silent' boys are ace), and I think him and Acle are working closely together on recording projects, it was Acle who recorded that particular demo for us! But yeah, anyway.... ....I'm half way through recording that last song, 'The Saviour' I'm really happy with how the whole process has gone actually, the general sound I've gotten for the parts is really nice and meaty! Other little things are that I've improved my pick technique and learned a lot about Cubase (hey it's a start). I'll try and maybe do a video or something of the last part of this song I'm recording now......or put up some sneak peeks of the bass parts or something!! I know it's only been a short diary, and it's not finished yet.... but thanks for reading!! I'll probably just keep updating it with relevant album news including mixing, mastering, artwork and release info as well!. Si
20. Like Alistair said, Just see it as an opportunity to improve upon your first attempt! Si
21.
Don't be put off by a guitarist doing 'stunts' on your bass. Tricks are of very limited use in the real bass world.
+1 A guitarist shredding on a bass doesn't make him a good bass player, it makes him a guitarist with the wrong tool ! Si
22. I used to live in Colchester, shame I don't anymore But I played at Offset on saturday, on the Rock stage, was a fun gig! Good luck mate, why not check out the Tuition forum....see if there's any essex based teachers!? Si
23. If it means anything to anyone, my Lakland Skyline 44-02 Deluxe is a 4 piece body! My USA Jazz is 3 piece Si
24. Don't let my post that you're referring to put you off, and please don't think that I'm unhappy with the bass! I LOVE my Fender Jazz, it would take a very very special bass to pry this from my number one slot. Feels great, sounds awesome, constantly performs!! A paint quirk and cost-cutting rout doesn't affect playability or sound! Definitely explore other avenues like Lakland and G&L etc (wouldn't bother with Cort myself), but give each bass a try and judge each one on it's individual merits! After all, you wouldn't want to be dismissed as a bad player because you look a little squiffy lol Si
25. Ummm, I didn't know he had us on his myspace, if you have then I'm not sure why because we've only just used Neema's studio for the first time on this album, simply to re-amp the guitars, and obviously none of that is released yet. Si
