Did '68s have lollipop tuners? Looks lovely though Si

Given that a refinish is generally seen as 'half off', would you see yourself paying £2500 for an all original '78?......uhhhhhh no! I'd be looking to pay £800-£900 TOPS without covers and original case, and thats with a good refinish, if it's something that needs to be redone, I'd be taking that off the price too!! But then I'm a picky bugger lol Si
I know how you feel - they don't call it 'the cold light of day' for nothing. But don't let 'The Guilt' obscure the fact that it was simply a case that your reach exceeded your grasp. In your ambition to inject some jollity into the proceedings, your musicianship took a hit. Happens to us all. By all means practice your material till the blood seeps from your eyes - but maybe try doing it stood up and throwing some moves. 'Show' is much to be encouraged and the intent cannot be faulted, even if the outcome left you plunged in deepest woe.
This is the other thing! People go to shows for 'performances', on the most part anyway! If a player dropped a clanger but was putting on a good show and had a laugh about it, you generally wouldn't care less huh!. Can't think of anything worse than someone standing dead still and looking at their instrument just to nail their part....how boring! Of course the trick is marrying 'The Show' with 'Your musical performance' Si
As I've said before,I don't think that consciously avoiding looking at the 'board is a good idea-you are really just limiting yourself. As you play more you will naturally become more aware of the 'board and stop looking at it as much-it comes with familiarity. Everyone looks as the 'board at times. Purposely looking away is just another variable that you don't need.
+1 Si

You know what, everyone makes mistakes, even the best musicians in the world......but the trick is being at a level where you can turn it to your advantage, or make it work! It's cliched, but Miles Davies' famous quote of "it's not a mistake, it's an opportunity" really rings true for me personally. Yes practicing more will make you more confident, but mistakes will always happen, it's just how well you react to them! Si

I think a lot of it is being at home and comfortable with a bass, if you're used to where on the neck the notes are you'll hit them without looking. If you're then playing a bass where the notes are in a different place, due to more frets, bigger/smaller body etc etc, then you're fighting an uphill battle, especially if you're swapping mid-set. Dilemna - sell a SR4 HH for Fender American J or P deluxe - am I wise?
Sibob replied to sPiKi's topic in Bass Guitars
I would vote for keeping the Stingray. I'm although I'm a proper Fender fan-boy, it's only really their passive basses that I think are ace, they make pants preamps!. If you fancy an active Jazz, get a standard and put in an East preamp of some description Si p.s. and off topic: Raggy, you get my PM? -
Sharing ....the bass amp makes sense on a multi band night for quicker change overs. I'd expct guitarists to bring their own amps though.
Sorry.....whats the difference? lol Si

I don't mind if people use my Cabs......but I get very annoyed when people want to use my amp as well, especially when they turn up on the day and ask Si
So now that the auction is ended it does make me wonder why most of the images have been removed... Oh no I remember: taken from the previous time it was listed and discussed! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=70234 I'm a skeptical owld git but when stuff like that happens (as predicted) it does make you wonder.
Actually yeah I do remember that being discussed! Could look suspect couldn't it! Although all the txt is still there on this listing, just some pictures disappeared. I can select the writing as if it's txt, not like it's a JPEG!? Si

I did wonder about the UV photos, is it to prove something about the finish being original?? Si
I've heard rumour that the 70s Jazz pup position was down to the factory screwing up a jig, rather than any deliberate effort to improve.
I believe it was more to do with aesthetics, they moved the rear pickup back slightly so that it was totally obscured by the bridge ashtray cover. The pickup poked out slightly in the previous position! Si
