1.
has anyone checked this out ? its not for sale anymore in any stores and i found it from some dude in a good price i think(150 euros - only the cabinet). http://techhouse.brown.edu/~dmorris/studio...an%27s%2015.jpg
I brought one of these new from the bass centre around 1998? Sold it last year, good combo with DI out etc. What do you wish to know?
2.
I gotta say dude, I think you need to go out play some basses and buy one! Don't want to sound harsh but there is only so much advice us guys can give. If you wait for a BassChat general consensus on what to buy you will be waiting a very long time! We are all different players and have different influences and preferences in what we play. Go to a couple music shops play everything you can afford and just buy what is best for you!
yep, when I got back into playing, it took me 3 amps before i found what I really wanted with basses, you may actually need to own and play some for a while before you really know what you want its like dating!
3. Hi, I've decided I would like to try a few lessons and see if I am not to old to unlearn bad habits that are ingrained since the late 80s Anyone know a good teacher who may give me a chance, i am near Esher in Surrey I don't wish to offend, but I don't wish to be taught by someone who is an expert on music theory, but is not a real experienced bass player, or is not a bass player at heart All I do now is general covers bands, so am really looking to improve playing skills, and perhaps tricks that will help me learn songs quicker and easier I am open to learning to read, but at 41 it may be to time involved Thanks for any help
4.
They all go to Music-Outlet-Shop in Germany, as some above have correctly surmised. A lot of Frankenbasses turn up there; I dunno how the guy has the nerve to sell them!
Who gives or sells them to these people and how can we step into the market for them?
5. assuming meeting up is not an issue (although I think it is), then my bass is lake placid blue, maple neck, unmodded standard MIM P bass brought new last year 2009 What would be the deal?
6. I have a STD MIM 2009 P bass, Just brought a 62 RI P so I like the idea of trading the MIM for a jazz Im in surrey so logistics maybe an issue
7.
I'm certainly not pushing the physical limits of what's humanly possible on a bass, but I still need to have a comfortable neck to play. If you're playing for any decent length of time, or in less than ideal circumstances (maybe a little niggling hand/wrist injury or you're sick or whatever) it's good to have a bass that isn't going to make things worse. I don't think I could play Precisions or Stingrays on a regular basis, it doesn't feel like I grip them right, I think I'd hurt myself eventually. I also get hand cramps playing Ibanez necks, either they're too thin or too flat or something, they feel very weird to me.
Fender must have had something like this in mind when they developed the jazz neck, I've gigged jazzes but not that much, perhaps if I did it for sometime I may find myself growing quicker than on my fat necks? Oh no now I have to buy another Jazz!
8. doesn't matter what we do, the guitarists will also find an extra bit on their dial! But yes, we seem to be louder as far as pubs/clubs are concerned, or am I just older? I used to get away with a 160w combo in some gigs, that would be out of the question these days
9. Is it just me or does a neck make no real difference to anyone else? If I can play a line, I can play it on a fat or slim neck, If something is beyond what is physically possible for me then no amount of neck tech is going to help If you are cutting songs so fine that a 1/4 on the neck will be the difference between a stunning line and falling on ya face at a gig, then your living on the edge, fair play! Hope the original poster is happy with their choice
10. I've been tracking various Jap and USA P basses for a while I finally brought a CIJ from here for 450 which I was happy with I am very open to buying a USA P or J bass if I see something I like for the right price, just not seen anything yet
11. I do not (yet) have any USA fenders But I regularly gig a 2009 MIM P bass, and have recently brought a CIJ 62RI P bass As someone else said above the MIM keeps up and cuts through the bands I play with and sounds really great (no mods) I do however have a very good amp though Anyway, there are obviously benefits to higher end basses, but for what I do a MIM is more than good enough However that does not stop me owning a decent RIC, and I couldn't say I wouldn't buy a MIA tomorrow!
12.
£1250 Not really LOL
Surely thats about right, I tracked a lot for 6 months or so to gauge it before paying bang on that myself last year
13. 880 with 32 mins to go What price was it advertised for "elsewhere"? Are you on track?
14. I don't know anything about JV, but I do know you can buy a selection of decent Fenders second hand for 750 or less, so it had better be good
15. best I can get right now
16.
My twins
NO, when did you get the 2nd and what did you have to sell? I've now got 2 P basses for general gigs, MIM with rounds, and a CIJ with flats I suppose I really need a MIA now, perhaps a vintage one for special occasions
17.
We can discuss small/large logos all we like, but the OP states his bass has a CN serial number. This denotes non Japan origin around Nineties era. No JV or any valeable early squier would have this serial. Can the OP post a pic of both the front of the stock and where the CN serial is. Any other pics of the overall bass would be handy.
have requested some pics to post from the owner, all the info on the JV stuff is interesting though keep it coming
18. May have missed this, does the pole assume vertual budget, if not I had a great squire VMJ which I now miss after selling
19. Hi I do not know where to post this, but need to ask for help and am hoping that through this site this can be achieved If this is not appropriate, or needs moving, please feel free and accept my apologies....... I know there has been some misuse of this kind of stuff, but sadly I can easily prove the following is true Last summer Alec, the oldest son of our guitar player Jonathan and twin to Sam, both attended a gig we were playing at. They where both keen musicians who had recently formed a band with their friends, Alex was learning and playing bass, Sam drums. They where keen to assist us that night, and as it was school holidays, Jonathan had allowed them to do so and stay for the whole gig. Both of them helped with the PA and carrying amps etc. Alec also helped to tune the basses, both boys where brilliant. Sadly, that night Alec died during his sleep, there was no warning of this, he was fit and healthy, and enjoyed sport alongside his music, he was a really positive and respectful kid Jonathan returned to playing recently and is staying positive and busy, although under the surface it is one day at a time for him and his wife Debbie, he has 2 other sons along with Sam the remaining twin, who they must inspire on in life One of our recent gigs was to play at a 50th birthday party, the family hosting the party had a son who also played within the teen band, and they therefore the boys where given the chance to play 3 songs before we did our set The boys played really well, with Jonathan playing bass in place of Alec, once they had finished their set, unknown to everyone else including Jonathan, the boys then simply said "This one's for Alec, who died" They then started to play a really soft guitar part, so far removed from their loved heavy music, they then built it very slowly ending in a very hard style that Alec would have loved, Sam really making use of his new double bass drum pedal The song was really emotional, and the boys had really thought it out and put their hearts into it, and no adult, even the ones who had helped them practice their intended 3 songs had any idea about this. Anyway, the point is, it would be great to give the boys the chance to record this, it does not need hours, does not need to be over produced or engineered, but it would be great to record and simply, keep it preserved as it is and they are now If anyone can help offer some time where this could be done, I would be so very grateful. It would mean so much to all the boys now and in the future. We are based in surrey, but could travel I guess as far as we need to if time allowed, which I guess is only dictated by school days etc Thankyou for taking the time to read this, and for any help anyone can offer Shaun
20.
Oh...thats not good then. Sounds more like a Chinese late 90s Squier with a decalmorphosis!!!!!
are they built from cheap parts / woods then?
21. thanks guys think the number is CN something?
22. Hi If a headstock has a large traditional Fender Decal with squire in small letters what does this make it? Obviously I've seen (and owned) Squire by (fender in small) But with Fender in big, what is the origin? Thanks for any help Btw its a P bass
23.
Yeah that's the one. med red plate with fingerpull holes. I think you put a fingerpull on, didn't you Mark? Gets in the way a bit if you do any of that newfangled popping stuff but looks the business
Yep, its my bass now, thanks to tredders I jammed with band on monday, and I've 2 options to gig it this weekend Back to thread topic, I brought this with a view to gigging it and not worrying to much about it, although I will be careful obviously I did consider a US RI, but only saw very good condition ones for sale, no dings, and I can't be dealing with that in small gigs I already have a mint Ric which can only come out to larger safe gigs, so no point in over a grands worth of mint USA 62 RI sitting at home also So I am happy with the CIJ (and I also have a MIM which is perfect for me) any slight improvement an expensive US model would give me, would not really make any odds to what I do Not saying I will never own one
24.
If you like the more warm chewy mids, and like to 'feel' some bass behind you, the 2x10 + 2x12 works very well. The 2x10 x 2 is more of a punchy tone machine.
Just noticed you did go 2x210 and 212, have you gigged any combinations? really keen to know I've got by with just the 212 so far, be nice to have something closer to my ear, but on its own it certainly gives enough out

dropping to D

Don't temp me guys, and yes its an image thing with them! I really like some of the clever ideas presented here, but long term I don't wish to mess around with my perfect good std tuned basses I am going to take a D tuned bass for the songs which I don't wish to think about changing And take my new CIJ with flats on in standard tuning for most the songs, cause its my first chance for an outing with it, and Im not D tuning it!
