1.
The svt-7-pro and pf800 seem pretty similar, which would be better?
I've tried the PF500 a bit and so I think that is very much on the lines of the PF800.... and I think that would definitely be on the list to go with the CN212 and not at all far behind the TH500 as a very good match-up
 2. I would also probably have to add a Vanderkley to the 112 list, but it wasn't part of the demo so ..?? But if you are anywhere near Reading and Bassgear, check out those S112's at 10kgs...as bang for buck they slay anything I've come across...and that buck is about £200 cheaper than the 'best'
 3.
Of course it'll vary, but I'd have thought pub gig would mean there's more chance of the gear being carefully put in the boot of a car with covers on it. ....................
Yes... I look after my gear enough so I can get away with just soft covers...and that is the point of lightweight gear. Why would you have weight as the premium criteria if you had to flight case it... ? You wouldn't buy a cab as a one cab solution which is a carry issue, IMO, and then have to buy another one because it didn't quite cut it sound wise, either, but as with all these things, you have to be reasonable with what you are getting. I have soft covers and transport by car so it is pretty easy to look after stuff... I put basses in gig bags as well for that reason. If the gear goes in a truck and/or a flight hold, then I'll pack for that. If you are loading a truck, weight ceases to be any criteria at all, IMO..as you'll be organised to do gear loads with more than one pair of hands. But..by the same token, it is fair enough if people report what did or didn't work from a build POV... but for me, lightweight means a one handed lift and you can get about on stairs...etc and soft bags should be good enough if you pack sensible. If the carry isn't a factor on a gig, I wouldn't be taking the lightweight rig...
 4.
I have never been impressed by this guy. Doesn't seem very 'together' as a player to me. Lots of 'wicketty woo' but not a great deal of content. Please signpost me to anything that proves me wrong.
Got to agree with this... I've checked out his videos online and it isn't happening for me. I think it sounds a bit better than it looks, but still lacks anything ...so not a page I go back to, tbh.
 5.
So far, social media, web-sites, personal contact are all good tools for building a following. Good solid professional performances also important and goes without saying. Blue
This is THE trump card, IMO... and if you are regarded as the best band around, then you should be pretty much the first pick of the better gigs....
 6.
Question for everyone. Is saying "thank you", "thanks for coming out to see us". Is that advertising? I get that saying "thank you" for some is difficult. That's another discussion. Blue
No..I think this is great and simple thing to do... If you are trying to create a vibe between band and audience ..then talking to them is a good start. But being the hot band works as well... but it isn't enough to have just one. Every band has a hot 'someone'....
 7.
Anyone remember the Sue Ryder "craze" a few years ago? I know loads of people brought them but im convinced they were mostly unplayable. I tried 3 and felt they were terrible. Now these I can believe would hinder anyone, even me, and it's normally the other way around ;-)
Yep..that was funny. Even Crack Converters don't sell them. But those aside... some basses are digs with fleas, for sure.
 8.
They are very pretty.
That is a bonus then because in my recent demo..which I've posted here, it had the best and nicest/smooth mid range of the boxes I tried. This is the key to clarity and defintion...and they are also light. I am pretty sure I could get the CN112 and SL112 working as well if I EQ'd the amp a tad.. You can hear all 3 cabs are very well voiced so you'll not need to work hard to get great sounds..
 9. It is a preference for sure.... but there are somethings that just can't be done on bad basses...and even if you could get close to doing them, you'd mess your hands up for later.
 10. If you want a full sound with clarity that is easily on a par with the SL112 from Aguilar and Bergantino CN112 which are pretty much the benckmark 12's to a lot of people or at least me, yet you want a lightweight box which they all are, then the TKS S112 is the one for you to check out. All the 12' cabs I've tried have needed a tweeter and even then the cross-over point can be an issue. The TKS112 is very clear in the hi mid with the single 12 working hard enough that a lot of people wouldn't even need a horn...and therefore you don't have that hole that 12's and horn cabs might have. The box is compact and as light as the NEO Bergs and Aguilars. And considering how well they compete with those two makers, IMO.. the much lower price makes them very attractive.
 11. I think the TKS S112's are efficient cabs and that is probably, IMO, because the chassis isn't loaded with deep lows within the cab tune...so these things will go loud for the amp output. It may also be why the cab is pretty sparkly and defined in the high mids and this is a very musical sound...and not at all harsh which some cabs have in order to cut through. I also think this is why they don't really need a horn... and I am probably one of the last people who would say that. This is not to say the cab is all things to all men... as the great mids and sensitivty probably come at the expense of a huge bottom end. I certainly don't need any more than they have anyway..and I think a lot of people who think they do, just drain their tone and power anyway. This is possibly why you need a powerful amp with some cabs. As for build, I can't think what you'd have to do to break them but I guess you could break any cab if you wanted to. I did have a good look externally at the TKS S112 and build QC just wasn't a factor, IMO. They aren't 12 ply baltic for sure, but what is? My list pub gig cabs would be the Aguilar SL112, Berg CN112, TKS112, and maybe the 1126... always paired up. I've been told the TKS 2126 is a Berg killer but didn't have time to try it. I'd also put a CN212 on the list as well.
 12. I never get too close to people in a band as it can turn sour quite quickly. The longer you are together, the more little thinsg crop up that you have to deal with and it is a shame if you fall out because of the little things that build and build. I take each band as it comes and work with it until it doesn't work anymore. I'll forgive a lot for musical chemistry but the get everything right is a very rare occasion indeed, IME. That is why money is a good driver..it focuses people a bit better and you have to accept a degree of compromise...upto a point.
 13.
Wow that's a shame. Must be bad to make you want to quit. I always got the impression you were pretty passionate about your band and what it does. Must credit your integrity for being prepared to back up what you feel is right. Hope something better comes your way.
It is a shame but the situation was simple. We needed to replace someone ..and that someone set a very high bar. I wasn't prepared to downgrade the band for an easy fix..ie, just to keep playing. So now the band has to replace 3 members instead of one, but that is their problem to deal with. I'll be alright as I know a lot of people and I think I can get a decent unit going ... if I can't I'm stuffed but I don't go backwards and the band will either be worth it or it wont happen. Thanks, anyway... onwards and upwards.
 14. Never ever push Faceboo at gigs.. people will find it if the want to. Never push our website unless people ask and we might have a card or two on us. Contact details are there, and we get enquiries from them but word of mouth is good. I do laugh when out with out with Muso mates.... as they are far more pushy ... whereas I just respond if directed at me...and after my mates have done with their spiel, they assume I am in their band as they ask just that. That is my cue to mention my band but I am not overly fussed, tbh. Most people who go to live music have heard of us and that is self perpetuating. I have no interest in pushing us out there... but I'll tell my friends they ought to see us if the band is good, and they trust that. In my current band, there is a personell change and I disagree with it, so I will never push that line-up... I have given in my notice as well because of it. If I think the band is good, I have no compunction about saying so in the right circumstances...but no one wants a bore in that regard...and if I think it is poor, or average, I'll say that as well.
 15. Both, I go into some shops and look at the stock and I don't even want to pick one up as I know it would be such a bugger to play and do what I want to do on a bass... Whether that bass can be set up to be playable as I'd want it, is also debateable. Most probably couldn't anyway... and there would so many other things about them that I'd dislike that it wouldn't even get off first base. It is possible that the issue is more mine than the bass... but many people like my basses to play so I'm thinking why isn't theirs more like mine...
 16.
If you were in a regular Pub/club gigging band & wanted the best transportable rig you could get & didn't want the hassel of external pedals, just plug in & play what would you get ?
Everything is a compromise, it is just how far will you go.. For a lightweight pub rig, I'd start with a TH500 and 2 CN112 cabs. Having said that..I would trump that with a DB750 rig if I could be bothered to get it to the pub date.. and often I do..!!
 17.
I'm sure that's true, but I doubt they are good players because they've got high-end gear.
Some basses are unplayable, IMO and most good players wouldn't even try. Sure, they could get a tune out of it, but they'd be so compromsied, they'd not bother, IMV..
 18. A band can create a buzz and that will fliter on thru time. Musicians can and do talk and if the band has impressed at some point, that is the best currency as soon, enough people will be saying the same thing and even the most insecure musician will get to hear about it... they may even be brave enough to go out and see the band itself and see what all the 'fuss' is about. So..the best way to get things moving is to have eneough people talking about you in a positive sense. Self promo is fine but push that too hard and it will come back to you so all you should do in that regard, is make sure you deliver upto the spiel... I tend to try and make the band the best it can be...and if it is a band I can push and be proud of, then that is all I have... and hopefully people trust and agree that I know what I'm doing..???
 19. I don't use them live and don't feel I need them. It is all about getting your technique and playing style to a stage whereas you are happy getting the sound out there. Recording is different in that your main job is getting the sound down and then the mixing stage is a lot more discerning and critical with so many other factors involved. If I had a big gig, then the engr might compress me for his version of the live mix and I'd be happy with that.
 20. I'd be getting more than one of those keys .... it is always the ones you must have that you lose
 21.
................. There's an amazing Spanish luthier who builds some amazing, and very Fodera like basses - http://www.jcrluthier.com/album2.html
Crikey..... quite an influence of his design, I'd say...
 22. Yep, all that but the simple fact is that the people who come to see you think you are good and entertaining enough to spend a whole evening with you. It always fascinates me about what makes people fans of one band or another. It could simply be that the band plays popular tunes and they hit that nail right on the head, they may just have a lot of friends who WILL turn out to the majority of gigs or the band may be spankingly good and even though a lot of people don't know much about music, they do recognise some sort of X factor. The thing is, a lot of this is about throwing enough mud against the walls and some will stick. We could lambast the 'playing by numbers' bands or the bands that just pick the set list to suit a pub audience but the bands that you have to admire are the bands that continually pull in punters. They, in the eyes of the audience, must be doing something right.
 23.
Yep, old Betsy was sounding rather nice. And that is a decent drummer as well. The band looked as if they were really enjoying themselves but regarding Ferry`s vocals, did you notice that the backing singers were doubling every word that he sang? Just his style or is his voice shot?
I wouldn't say shot, but Ferry has always had a 'weak' delivery so I just think this is a smart way of keeping the gig going. And to be fair, he has ALWAYS featured great backing vocals from way back. I still think he can just about cut it and is still valid as an artist... who doesn't totally rely on plundering his classic back catologue ... He can still mix it up which is why he is still watchable, IMO. That is why I say he knows the value of great bands... and great BV's are always part of that in his bands.
 24.
Another case of a top line, pro bassist being chased off by the lesser mortals of BC, he is not the first. Damned shame.
Yes, a few have joined and then get so much 'stick' that they think it isn't worth the bother... And after seeing what happened to a couple in print, I can't say I blame them.
 25. Great player who is a member here. Shame he felt the need to have to 'leave' Ferry knows the value of a great band ...it keeps him going.
