1. Make that four. I've been waiting for my new Regenerate Heritage from the US since before New Year. It's in the country... somewhere...
 2.
As a lefty (who plays right handed bass) do any other leftys find that things made for left handed people are the wrong way around. Especially left handed scissors, when I try to use them they make a mess of the paper. I'll stick with using right handed scissors in my left hand.
I wonder if there's a curious little irony here. After a lifetime getting used to using right handed scissors, do you think it's possible that you're having to get used to using ones that are actually designed for your needs?
 3. There was a very lively discussion a few months ago on a closely related subject here. If you're being really picky you could say it was slightly OT, but with luck it will inform this discussion.
 4.

Oi! Who's been raiding my basket!
 5.
I'd love to see the size of the sandwiches in that picnic basket.
Be my guest.
 6.
Hmm looks like we'll need a bigger chair.
I'll bring the picnic basket...
 7. I remember once when Guitarist magazine set out to 'test' how well a Squier Strat would resist attempts to smash it to pieces. This one seems to have about as much of a point as that did. During a period of recession, to willfully take a chainsaw to a £500 speaker cabinet that a lot of players would sell their grannies for almost staggers the imagination! Have these guys really got nothing better to do with their time? Angry old fart signing off...
 8. Pick size is a bit of a trade-off between tone & speed. Thicker picks will give a thicker, fuller tone but will be a bit harder to play really fast; whereas thinner picks flex more and so present less resistance to movement (which makes them easier to play fast - especially if you use an alternating technique) but give a slightly thinner tone. From what you've said I would guess that your playing is dominated by downstrokes? That being the case thicker would generally be better.
 9.
Please explain re-amping, it sounds like a great technique but sadly I have gotten lost in transalation.
Sorry for the delay:- Basic procedure is as follows (many variations)...
Step 1: Connect your bass to a channel input of your recording equipment using D.I. with no effects (usually called 'clean' or 'dry' signal). Play the bass line as required for the song and record it. You now have a recording of the exact sound the bass is making. Step 2: Connect the output of the recorded channel from the recording device to the input jack of your chosen bass amplifier. Connect the output of the amplifier to an unused channel (or channels) of the recording equipment. When you play back the recording the bass amplifier treats it as if it were you playing the bass live. If you decide you like the sound you simply rewind the recorder and record the sound onto the new channel. If not, change the amplifier settings and go again. If you still don't like it you can change the amplifier and repeat the process as often as you like.
As I said above, this is a basic description. Part of the skill of a recording engineer is to use it creatively to obtain the required sound. There are some very good examples in some of the posts above. I'm afraid that's as simple as I can put it. Hopefully it makes sense.
 10.
Never heard of 're-amping' before...
Record the bass clean through DI onto your recording medium, and then run an output from the recorded channel to the input of your chosen amp & record the signal off the amp onto another channel. It has numerous advantages - not least that you can keep trying it with different amps to get the sound you want.
 11.
It really depends on the mic-amp combination. I'll usually record the amp, but unless I've found a sound I really like I'll also take a DI and re-amp it later. Bass amps get noisy, but most of that will disappear in the mix anyway, and crystal-clear mixes are just f*cking boring if you ask me. Re-amping seems to be one of those things that's gone by the board along with lots of other old studio techniques people used to swear by. Like taking the time to mic things properly.
Good point!
 12. I've just ordered one of these myself based on hearing one owned by another BC member and noting the rave comments by several other members. I'll keep an eye on it for a while in the light of this development.
 13. D.I. for me too. Miking bass cabs is kind of doing it the hard way (not to say you shouldn't of course). D.I. presents a 'clean' signal to the mixer that you can record & then add effects to your taste later. If in doubt do both and then mix & match at mixdown.
 14.
Got an awesome Carvin LB75LF 5-String if you're interested (or anybody on here) before i put her on the Bay. Beautiful fretless..neck through body,Ebony board etc. Bought a Sandberg custom thinline fretless5 so the Carvin needs a home. Not even i can justify 2 fretless 5's. Looking around £280..Bargain!!
Personal recommendation - I've traded with Deezbar several times and rate him as a top man. Buy with confidence.
 15. Born in England but proud of my Scottish heritage, even if I am descended from the shower of sheepshagging rustlers that is clan Kerr. I'll be raising a cup to the Auld country come midnight. Happy Hogmanay
 16.
This one tickled me in a description... fretless jazz bass mex, useing in my indy band got to sell to play off student det If I was him I would be asking for my money back!
...unless of course English isn't his first language
 17.
I don't know who played on that particular track, but his live bass player is a girl called Vivi Rama.
Cheers for that. Normally I wouldn't have paid it much attention, but it just jumped out at me and I thought 'woah!' I'll check her out (if you see what I mean... )
 18. Without judging anybody, it does start to look like the 'endorsement deal' is really nothing more than a bit of free advertising for the company (which if true is actually pretty sneaky since most aspiring musos will still look at it as if it has the potential to do something for their careers). Not to say that there aren't still good deals to be had; just that this type of deal is only serving one set of needs.
 19. Just finished watching Madagascar 2 on Sky, and caught Will.I.am's version of 'I like to move it'. The instrumental mix at the end of the movie has some amazing bass playing. Anybody know who it is that's doing it?

 21. At 11 I'd definitely go for a fullsize shortscale rather than a half. She'll be a bit small for a while but will grow into it. Any of the above will do the job. Might be a good idea to start her with light gauge strings as well. (Yes I know it's a short scale anyway but 11 year old fingers will most likely struggle with heavier strings). I teach well over 60 Primary students weekly. If you'd like some help with some teaching ideas, drop me a PM.
