I'm after a new bass. Just a cheapy, I need a 5 string (off to Uni, greater flexibility etc), but I've been looking at some 6's too and I really want one. I'm gonna go for one off the Rondo Music so I'll be importing. But I really can't decide between 5 and 6. I'm not sure I'd get much use out of the high C, but then perhaps getting a 6 would inspire me to look into other genres of music that would incorporate it? Argh, someone help!

You're the one that I want - Grease soundtrack
there was something else in it with a real deep baritone - voice. cool tune.
At the outro of "We Go Together", really deep voice doing some forms of "bop"s and "doo"s by the sounds of it! Grease is also a favourite of mine to play. (Greased Lightning and Born To Hand Jive in particular). They're the first "proper" basslines I've learned to play (I play mostly straight 8th root note punk style lines, so I'm hardly a bassist ) -
I can't help with the six string, but I think you add the duty before VAT (though I might be wrong). You've also got to allow between about £8-15 for admin charges, depending on who processes the charges for you.
Thanks for the tip, you were right. Duty, then VAT. Still works out the same though!

To further my search for the cheapest 6 string I can find, does anyone know of any other 6 strings with a 35" scale that can be had for £200 or less? I'm looking at a Brice HXB-406, that's 35" but by calculation comes in at about £230-£250 after VAT, customs, shipping etc.
-
I just did a quick calculation, I think I got it right.....I have to add 17.5% for VAT, then add 3.9% onto the whole lot for the customs tax? The second bass is $289.95, plus $83.89 for shipping totals $373.84. After adding 17.5% onto this I got to $439.62. If I then add 3.9%, it comes to $456.39, which in current conversion rates, comes in at less than £232. A steal surely? I'm not sure I'll be able to resist this!
One S in "trus"?
I actually meant the "6 sting", didn't spot that one!
I have a brice 6 string but it looks more like the one above than the one below. It actually looks great on stage, i'll find some pics if you want? As far as the bass goes, it's VERY nice for the money. The pups aren't uber-powerful, but then my main comparison is my schecter studio 6 so..... Compared to that it plays almost as nice, the neck is very similar in feel (if not nicer than the schecter) and it sounds great through my rig, and on my recordings (link in my sig).
Thanks for your input, if you can find a couple of pictures that would be great! They seem like they could be a nice first 6 string for the money.

Does anyone have any experience with these Brice basses? I was having a quick look through the 6 string section and I've fallen in love with two.... Douglas WOB 826 and the Brice HXB-406 The Douglas is $179.95, 34" scale, active pickups with vol/bal/bass/treb, ash body while the Brice is $289.95, 35" scale, same electronics but with an active/passive push-pull, alder body with bubinga finish. I want one! So, has anyone had any experience, or think either of these is worth buying? P.S. Did anyone spot the spelling mistake on the Brice page?

3/10 cabs... any reason why nobody makes them?
karlbbb replied to ben_eat_pie's topic in Amps and Cabs
Do they not make 12-ohm speakers? 12-ohm speakers, 3 in parallel = 4 ohms! -
That could definitely be a good idea. I get paid next Friday, so I'd be looking into buying the bass then. I really wanna do either the series/parallel or the ser/par/split mod, although I'm not a dab hand with wiring, so I'll have to make sure I'm 100% certain before I go ruining my bass!
-
Just to drag this topic up again... Is the switch a 2 position or 3 position? At first I thought it would be a three position (on-on-on) DPDT giving you either coil or both. Now it seems its just two position and always gives both coils, but in series or parallel? Having typed that, I had a moment of clarity after I re-read the topic title. D'oh! Looking at an MM3 in the For Sale section and this would be a definite mod should I buy it.
-
You have no idea how much I want the MM32 Just looking at the single pup MM3 in the FS section, shame I really can't stretch to the MM32 (if you can still get them new).

Just get a fan that has a nice balance of noise/CFM? I.e. the biggest CFM you can get for the lowest dB. I imagine they're 80mm fans, the one in my old Behringer head seemed to be around that size.

Got it yesterday and had a quick play when I got home. I love it! Excellent pedal. Using it as a USB audio interface, all through headphones. It's great. I'll start fiddling soon enough to get a couple of "main" sounds. Should be fun!
Cool .. Tip number one is read the manual No, really, read it first. Just go off to a cafe or somewhere and read it through from cover to cover before having a go... Sorry, I know this may affect your standing in the lads' community, rugby squad and down the pub ... oh and people will expect you to ask for directions and maybe even multitask at some point but it's worth it to avoid hair pulling and initial dissapointment There's a few threads on settings and stuff on here so a search is worthwhile too
Cheers mate. I actually downloaded a .pdf of the manual from Zoom's site, so I've read it through, and I'm not unfamiliar with Zoom pedals anyway. Stupid couriers couldn't get my address right so now it's turning up today, when I'm working 9-5. Gah!
-
Ordered a b2.1u yesterday, turning up today. This wait is killing me! It'll turn up at 3.45pm when I'm leaving for work! Bloody typical!
-
Pah. Last week I was looking at the Zoom B2.1u, and the cheapest was Soundslive at £83 + postage. The website said it included power supply. Now I'm looking around and it seems to have gone up in price everywhere, and doesn't include a power supply? SoundsLive now has it for £109. Shame. But I agree with getting the b2.1u, it seems like a great FX pedal, and have got nothing but fun from previous Zoom guitar FX pedals I've used.
-
All the way back from bassworld too, although I never really talk that much!
-
I agree! It sounds amazing! I'd love to get my hands on one.
-
Damn do I want one of these! Slowly becoming available in shops that ship to the UK. Shame the price is around £279-289 though. Tut. I'm gonna save and get me one of these. Off to Uni in Sept (hopefully) so the audio interface will come in very handy. I realise the b2.1u has one too, but I have a personal trait in loving big massive multi-fx pedals and this one looks the dogs danglies!

Those FretLord Illuminators look crazy (the LED ones that go on the head/body and light up the neck). I'd consider buying some.

With regards to modding the bridge, would much drilling be required, or would it be a simple case of dropping a new one in?
