1.
I don't think anyone's "bigging up" anything. What you are seeing are the views and opinions of people who post more frequently than others. In that case it's plain that you'll hear what they have to say more than someone who posts every blue moon. As I said before you can't complain that recommendations are one sided just because no one is posting opposing views.
Yep. It's simple. Take an online review with a pinch of salt and try the gear for yourself. Which is exactly what Alex lets you do.
 2.
I think the main problem is that peoples reviews aren't totally accurate, they possibly don't try other manufacturers gear beforehand.
True. But I think the main problem is sonic subjectivity. What sounds great to a rock geek like me - fat low bass with a gravel-path crunch - will sound crap to a floppy hatted funkster who's popping and slapping all over.
 3. What's wrong with that? Sounds spot on to me!
 4. I try not to gush when reviewing. All I can say is what my ears tell me and make me feel. My Big One p*sses all over my Ampeg 410HLF and various other cabs I've tried over the years. I'm a grumpy sh*t, so I'd be the first to announce any negatives. But I can't find any. Which, in a way, gets on my nerves.
 5.
A lot of people like BF Some Dont Some people appear to have an agenda almost outside is the product good or not.
Exactly.
 6. Bass players are odd. I'm going out to play.
 7. Yeah, point taken. All I'm really saying is that people should be able to say and post what they think about a bit of gear, without folks accusing them of hyperbole and telling 'em to tone it down.
 8. Yeah, just a figure of speech - impossible to see how that comment might offend or be misunderstood in any way. I think people should speak their minds about stuff, glowing or otherwise. Harmony Central has plenty of glowing reviews on there - you'd rather people deleted or didn't write their honest thoughts? You read the reviews, got hyped up, tried a couple of cabs, didn't like them, then got your money back. No harm done.
 9.
The cab IS "colouring your sound". Whatever that means.
How can you say it's colouring my sound, if you don't know what it means? I'll drop the jargon - the Big One doesn't seem to make my sound bassy, middly or trebly. It lets the natural sound of my bass come through with complete clarity. Then I EQ that sound as I see fit. And I'm sorry if my love of this cab annoys some people. I'm not endorsing Barefaced cabs - just stating what I feel about them.
 10.
See, this is the sort of thing that can be misleading, because it makes out that the cab will do anything you want. If you like the sound of speaker distortion and a big mid range hump then it probably wont, which I think Alex himself has said. As Rob said to me the other night in a moment of zen like wisdom, any cab basically equates to "speakers in a box", they're not magic and no matter how well designed something is, it's going to have an inherant character that may or may not float your coracle.
Wil, I don't mean to mislead, I'm just saying what works for me. I'd rather colour my own sound than let the cab do it for me.
 11. You get out of a Barefaced Cab what you put into it. It's a cab that mirrors your bass and amp settings. Without coloring your sound like many other cabs. So EQ your amp until you get the sound you love. It doesn't take much for me and my Big One: I just boost the bass and drop the mids a bit. It will take whatever EQ you throw at it. But you're in control, not the cab.
 12.
I wouldn't be seen dead with a cab called Aguilar, Epifani and Bergantino. They sound like they were designed for guys in dresses.
13.
I'd prefer it if my Bergantinos handles were recessed, as they are on the new ones, so my rack would sit on top better. Does that count?
Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about.
 14. That's true. Although some things seem to escape criticism on here - Aguilar, Epifani and Bergantino spring to mind. Are they as perfect as the reviews suggest or has anyone tried and not liked?
 15. Blimey, never thought I'd feel so bad for saying I liked a bass cab.
 16.
Hey Mildman if you do want to compare the Big One next to an NV412 we could have a Swindon Bass bash!
I'm up for that Raggy! Not knocking the Bergs though - all personal preference innit.
 17.
What other cabs have you compared your Big One, mildmanofrock?
I've played the Ampeg 410hlf against the Big One, - the Big One is far superior to my ears - no mud. I've also played through a Bergantino nv412 and Aguilar db410 but not directly compared at the same time. While good, none of them have given me the clarity, punch and ability to hear every nuance of my bass.
 18.
+1 at that price it is playing with the big boys
You're right. And in my experience, the Big One beats them.
 19. Shockwave, your other problems aside, I'm with other posters here who say give your Vintage speakers time to bed in. Set aside a few hours to play at a fair volume with your low frequencies turned up - and I reckon those speakers will whack out the thick bass you're looking for.
 20.
Only those that are blind and/or deaf would purchase based on spec.
Of course. I don't think Alex or anyone is suggesting otherwise. But if specs are already out there, I don't think there's anything wrong with adding another spec to the list. 51mOn is right. There's nothing wrong with arming people with quality facts to help them make informed buying decisions. Read the specifications, but don't forget to use your ears.
 21.
But do you, as the end user, care? For example, for any cab, if the specs look great but the cabs sound sh*te, would you still buy them?!
But all or most cab companies provide specifications anyway. Of course, it's vital to hear a cab working - no one here is saying you shouldn't. But accurate technical facts don't do any harm. And people obviously care about the technical aspects or they wouldn't put them in their marketing. So why not add Volume Displacement figures to the list of specs? Would you buy a 100 grand car on just the strength of a test drive? Maybe. But I bet you'd be interested in seeing the specifications too.

 23. Hi absolut - it only sounds the same as my EBS from the youtube link. Hearing it in the flesh, may be different - so could be worth having a go? Cheers S
 24. Sounds exactly the same as my EBS Multidrive. What's with the undercarriage controls that you can only change with a screwdriver? How dopey is that?
 25. I've never played through a Hartke cab - but the Big One blew my Ampeg 410HLF cab out the water. Here's my review.
