1. Bump - Anyone in Nottingham wanting to see/hear this in action, I'm playing on Wednesday night an will be using this beauty. Shep
2.
They do, but for whatever reason I just never found playing 4 on a 6 to be as comfortable as playing 4 on a 4...if that makes sense!
Makes perfect sense. I guess it's mainly due to familiarity, although one mans ideal is another mans nightmare. I've played 6ers exclusively for nearly 2 years now. When I pick up a 4 it feels so odd and I'm not at all comfortable moving around the freeboard as I'm so familiar with the 6 now.
3. Just play what's comfy on you, has a feel that suits and tonally does what you need. If it has 4,5,6,7,8,10,12 strings, who cares... If it's comfy for you, that's what counts. I play a 6. In one project I use the full range of the instrument so it makes sense, I also find a wide, flat neck forces my thumb into the correct position and as such my technique has improved massively since I played 6ers. Not to say that will work for everyone, but has for me. My other project does not step outside of the 4 string range except in one number. Beauty is that a 6 still has the same 4 strings as a 4 wether I use them or not! Just get what you love dude, it's the only way.
4.
Thanks pal...any suggestions on the signal chain I have there? Exciting!
Well, if I was given the 3 pedals you used my 1st setup attempt would be Octave-Synth-Envelope, as it sounds as though you are using the synth as a dirt effect and I find high gain effects work better before envelopes, however I run my markbass supersynth after envelope as it has more clarity and keep fuzz/distortion and noose stuff before. Most importantly is how it sounds and I'd say what you have sounds great as it is! Additional modulation should come later though so it modulates the entire complex signal... Shep
5. I wouldn't start a new thread until someone agrees to arrange it... Or it'll never happen. If I get time I'll look into stuff, bit I'm working 6 days a week at the mo and hardly have time to breathe. If no one else steps up, I'll look into it in a month or two when thing calm down in my world...
6. Sounds good dude... Got the basics/root of the D&B sound there. Loads of fun to be had Next - Modulation.... Chorus & Trem
7.
Hi all! I've added myself to the basschat forum family so that we may be able to quickly respond to any issues -and of course any positive feedback - you may have encountered with our strings. Email is usually preferable, as I don't get to log on everyday to the [email protected]. Looking forward to speaking with you soon! Anthony Corona DR Strings
Great to see you on the forum... Maybe you could respond to a few of the quality control issues mentioned in this thread. Also, is there a supply issue at the mo. I have been waiting for a set of Black Beauties (6 string set) from Bass Direct for about a month. Each week Mark apologises for the delays and says he is told they will be delivered this week. I was there 2 weeks ago and he made a call to you (??)/the supplier whilst I was there and heard him told that they were sorry about the delay again, but demand has been huge and they'd be with him that week. 2 weeks have passed and he still hasn't received the delivery. I spoke with Mark again at the weekend and he told me that he had arranged for the set to be sent to me direct this week as he was away from Tuesday and had been 'promised' (again) that they would be going out this week. It's now the end of the week and needless to say, nothing has arrived. Is there a supply issue? If so, in the interest of customer service, I think being honest to the shops stocking the product is a good start. I know things get delayed, but to say 'this week' and still be saying 'this week' into the 5th week later says somethings gone wrong or someone's just fobbing the stockist off... I REALLY want to keep using the strings, but I'm not prepared to wait 'another' week. Hopefully there's some news on supply? Thanks! Shep
8. Moved to the right forum. Mark at BD does sell these. They are very nice as well. Build and tone remin me a lot of top end Yamaha's. I played a Clover 6 and it sounded just like my Yammy TRB
9.
Another good example, Shep, but I need frets ... not selling your latest addition yet then? Yes, I noticed you'd started the 'Roscoe porn' thread. Nice.
Unfortunately the Century Signature is going nowhere... Ever. I got the original spec's confirmed by Gard and the boys and the original cost of that bass is staggering (due to all the shims, veneers and luxury wood upgrades). It is not only the finest instrument I've played, but also the most expensive by a long way. New Fretless on the way as well... By a Roscoe. Don't even question yourself!
10. Hey ho. It's actually been sold 3 times in the last month - twice the buyer pulled out on the day of collection and the 3rd time the newbie never turned up and has never logged into BC since. Eventually it will find a home with a loving, caring buyer Shep
11. Lol... Giving her a run this week on eBay and if no one bites here or there then she'll head to BassDirect I think. Not long left to snag this at this low a price. Especially now I'm throwing in the Roscoe hardcase and a free cuppa on collection
12.
If all the overwaters you've played have been comfy, go with that IMO. I like overwaters, they sound and feels great to me. Not played a W&T but if I was putting down money on a custom I'd pick the one that I've played and consistently liked.
Agreed. Id suggest going to BassDirect for a day (or half day at least) and playing every W&T and Overwater Mark has. He'll be more than happy for you to drink his tea and eat his biscuits for a day, and you'll know what your getting across a broad spectrum of basses. I would suggest everyone does this when they are looking at high end instruments. If you go for a custom W&T, Mark is also the man to speak to in order to get the best price on one... Shep
13. Mine was ash with a Wenge top. The bite and punch was massive and the low B the best I'd heard... But that much Wenge comes with a 12.6lb price tag. Balance was fine, but the weight meant balance meant nothing...
14. I've been through the buil process with Overwater. They are very helpful and Chris May is a fantastic man to help vuid you. I was very happy with mine tonally, still one of the best basses I've played for punch and growl, but the weight of mine was an issue and so I sold it on. I've never played another with similar weight though so it was just mine. I'd recommend them. As for W&T - send Mcgraham a PM. He's had a custom done and actually owns two. I'd consider them more tonally diverse than the Overwaters, bit also harder to get to grips with. I'm not an owner though so that's just from my playing with mcgrahams... Shep
15. Yes. Buy one. Never look back. In fact. Buy the Fretless I have for sale! Stunning instruments. Hi-fi sounding with amazing balance and build quality. Checkout the Roscoe Porn Thread in the Gear Porn section for some of the Roscoes hiding in the Basschat community - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=131198 Ive been through Overwaters, GB's and morethan I care to recall. Honestly... I doubt I'll play anything else now for the rest of my bass playing life. Of course, one mans gold is another man poop... But for me, nothing has that feel and tone. I've played all the 6ers at Bass Direct. The LG3006 is the nicest to play IMHO. As for the 5's... Mark @ BassDirect is the man to ask, he gigs a Roscoe 5 so knows them well. Shep
16. Hey folks, I have a Hercules grab stand, bought from Bass Direct a couple of months back and it's never left the house. One of these - (2nd one down) http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._Auto_Grab.html Looking to trade for a Warwick Rock Stand, the triple/3 instrument version like this (with a little cash your way!) - http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/store/guita...nd-opened-25253 I don't have the space for a 5 or 7 way, so just the 3 way please. Update - I've been told that some versions of this stand don't fold and need to be screwed apart for transport - If this is indeed correct, I NEED to have the version that folds flat. There some cheap copies of the Warwick ones about, and I've tried one and had it fall apart. As it will be holding basses to the value of £8k on stage I'm not after anything of a lesser quality than the Warwick. Would also sell at £20 depending on how cheap I can get it posted - if it's going to cost me £7-8 then its trade only unless you collect in Nottingham. Double grab stand traded! Shep
17. I had a 1006. Cost £450 2nd hand. Felt like it was worth 3 times as much. Great great basses!
18. Cheers Jazz! Hope you're well. Need to plan another road trip soon... Had a few enquiries about this over the last 2 days. Still open to part ex offers listed in the OP. Anyone is welcome to come try this out... No problems at all. Bump at a bargain £1200
19. Bought some George L's from Chris. Top bloke. Cheers mate Shep
20.
Whilst we seem to share much in taste with gear, my wallet seems a little tougher to prise open! Doesn't mean i haven't got serious GAS for the your old Roscoe, and it's well priced, but other things demand my hard earned i'm afraid. I hope this one plays as well though! It looks dreamy!
Lol... Other things can wait lol. I know this one will play amazingly. Body shape, balance and neck width profile from my Century Signature (you've not had the joy of playing that one yet), paired with the tone and growl from the Fretless you've played (with a touch more low mid from the Roscoe Bart pups).
21. Hi guys, We are supporting... I expect opening to be fair. A promoter caught wind of us and wants to see u do our thing. One of the acts playing is 'Alright the Captain' who tend to pull a good crowd themselves. I'm pretty sure we'll cram a few in too, plus two other acts on top. Not sure about times etc yet, but I'll update this thread as soon as I do.
22. We're playing our live arrangement of Drum & Bass, Dubstep & Electronica along with some other great prog and instrumental artists on Wednesday, August 17th, at the chameleon art cafe, Nottingham. It will be loud! Av' it!!
23.
That's some burr maple! Very nice. A bit flasher than the old Roscoe! I like the diamondwood fretboard option too. What colour are you lining the frets?
Aluminium lines, like my current Fretless... They work perfect with the black Diamondwood. Don't fancy adding a nice Fretless 6 to partner with your lovely Ritter?
24. I think the MF-101 is not the best choice if your after a classic envelope filter (ala auto wah). It's a little harder to get to grips with and excels better in other areas (such as a dub tons shaper). My vote would be the 3Leaf Groove Regulator or the MXR Bass Envelope Filter... Phaser however... HAS to be the Moog 12-Stage Phaser. I can't find anything close for use with a bass. EBS DPhaser is nice, but not a patch on the Moog
