1. So, cut the grass yesterday, and then ran out of strimmer wire,,gadzooks I thought, I've some old bass strings in the garage, and with the aid of a screw attached, bass string and off I went....moral of the story?,,jees I can be a right idiot at times...( when they break, they go at one hell of a speed). any other good uses for strings?
2. Sounds to me as if he is having a go at "Twisted" by Skunk Anansie.
3. Quick one while we are on the subject, I have a USA 97 Jazz,,strung thru, and to be completely honest, the bridge is off centre, Have lived with it for years, however are there any hi mass bridges that do not use the original holes?,
4. Thanks Guys,,,,,,just been sent the uncropped version...
5. yeah,, that's quality,,, still chuffed with the pic tho.....
6.
Picking the right covers is a fine line and it's got nothing to do with taste, integrity or musicality. But on any level, a full dance floor is a success and you should bottle whatever it is you've done to get em up. There are a lot of musicians with too much "integrity" out there in need of a crate or two!
great post.
7. Hats off to the Photographer.. caught this one,,, taken in the Summer but unseen until today.. anymore in flight pics???
8. Ha, Like it.. Back in the early nineties, we regularly used to frequent the Toby Jug Pub in Doncaster,, still have some old billings somewhere and on several occasions saw the Groundhogs,,(sound was terrible, but enjoyed it),, we couldn't understand why no-one was interested back then,, saw Adrian Legg play to ten people, even one night we had, Edgar Broughton, Tony Mcphee and John Otway...Tony was magnificent singing delta blues with and old Yamaha Acoustic,,,, one week we went to see the Groundhogs, next night back for Stan Webbs Chicken Shack,,and could not afford to go back on the Sat to see Steve Marriott, (sadly not long before he passed).... we were thrilled to see these (to us) giants,, but shameful the way they were being treated back then...happy days tho.... on a footnote, believe the Drummer of the Groundhogs, (Clive Brooks), is working as the drum tech on the aussie pink floyd show..
9. Tried this first time tonight,, initially on the conversion on the Ibanez (see earlier), but also made a small fly lead (jack to XLR) to try on the Jazz,,,, took all previous comments seriously,, but no issues (Phantom power on a LS9 desk is not global across the board etc),, completely silent,, so basically walked on with the jazz,,, connected straight to the desk,(via Cat5 cable after stage box),,,,, was sent return signal thru monitors,,, sounded brilliant.........did the gig,, unplugged and walked off,,,,,happy days...for these half hour warm up gigs, going to explore this route,, its so easy, and works well,, (not talking little venues either, Doncaster Dome, Newcastle City Hall, Carlisle Sands, Big UK Theatres on this gig)...Chuffed,, thanks for all the comments.
10.

Amen.
11. Good point BigRed, (as always),,but not received the bass back yet, and its just a trial at min,, it is clear of my body when playing tho.
12. Thanks Phil, will pass all that info on,, thanks for taking the time to reply..
13. Hey Dad3353,, I had not seen this,,Wowcha....that's some kit....so lets incorporate that Trillian tech into a real Bass,,And that's what im talking about..with that you could have switches on the bass for acoustic, synth, anything,, xlr out..Thats a Tool for the job! (Quiver indeed at those comments),, pretty sure Leo would say,, about blinkin time!
14. Thanks for all the info guys,, really useful, just to clarify, my current rig for this gig,, is Bass into DI, to Desk, but if you see my opening comments, with modern tech, wanted a bass with some built in modelling, and DI out,, due to the use of great monitoring to make this possible. same as plugging a keyboard in really!,,its given some great comments and thoughts tho, thanks!..
15. Just toying with ideas Luke, but yes, if it worked well, would be very useful.
16. Just Info, yes everyone does have separate monitor mixes, and the Nexo Monitors are about fifteen hundred quid each,(five of these) so perform a lot better than the 2x10 Ashdown, done loads of shows now using just monitoring, Guitarist does the same, works a treat,, Drummer has own In ear monitor feed, really happy how this all works,, next logical step seems to have balanced line straight out the Bass,, effects can be run back to me thru the desk,( only use Chorus for these shows, and usual comps/gates the engineer adds in.),,
17. Ok, an experiment is in progress, donated my Active Ibanex SRX705 to the builder who is going to put an XLR out into the back cavity plate, shouldn't be a long job, and will let you know how it goes,, as Bigred x has mentioned lots of potential options, and as its going to the desk, the engineer will be able to use the desk effects to pipe back to me in the monitor, and has phantom power options., could always just have a small DI box on my strap suppose, but what's the fun in that lol....
18. Discussion with our guitar builder this morning, happened to be passing for a cuppa,, for the price of a new Bell Plate,, thoughts are to use the jazz active pre amp and stick an XLR out,, should work??,,
19. Cheers Guys, that is a great Heads up, some high end stuff there tho, more thinking along the lines off what Line 6 were trying to achieve, Built in modelled Bass sounds, XLR Out, always been a fan of traditional stuff, however something on those lines would be so cool for these types of gig.
20. Hey Crew, not to bore you with detail, but regularly do a half hour warm up gig for a show which plays a lot of big venues / theatre and really fortunate to have use of the really good gear and crew (engineer is a diamond),,monitors are so good "Nexo" we even ditched the backline amps and just DI Guitar and Bass Been happy with this for a while now and yesterday someone let me have a go on one of the Line 6 Variax Basses,, which really got me thinking,, If thru digital technology I could produce consistent sounds (the same as a keyboard does) and a bass had a XLR Out,, could just walk on to these shows, plug in a XLR and BANG,,good tone, no pedals, combine this with something like my trusty jazz (and pushing it here) had a built in tuner, that really would be a useful tool. Has this been done?, seems a logical step so guess someone is looking at it..
21. Cheers Paul,, even tho we don't always stick in the Eighties, it certainly helps when booking to have some sort of theme,, (we chuck crowd pleasers in from any genre/decade sometimes),, when looking to book bands it helps to narrow it down,, eg , Tribute/80s/Punk/Country whatever,, at least people know what they are getting, rather than "general covers band which plays a bit of everything" which rightly or wrongly is going to have a hard time selling itself,, we did one of our half/half shows last night for Tata Steel,,, first set Tribute,, which everyone enjoyed,, then came back on to 80s classics, and they danced the night away,, big venue,..good night.
22. We Run an 80s Band "New Retros" alongside our Blondie Tribute "Heart of Glass" and find it works well, certainly a market for it, lot of 80s themed parties and the like, getting the sounds right is pretty easy these days, especially if your drummer can play to click, lots of work thru agents for this kind of thing also,,
