1. I'm only looking for a trade on this bass.. Fender 75 reissue non export jazz bass. new DR Fat beams, John East J retro preamp. comes with a SKB hard case, 2 piece ash body, maple neck blocked and bound. Dunlop strap locks. great condition, but for a few dings on the headstock. super tight neck pocket. The tone is just sublime. .very clean sounding instrument. for single coils the pickups are very quiet.. I've recorded with it and its silent.. its what you can expect from a Fender MIJ 75 jazz bass with a j retro. it has 70's spacing pickups only made for non export instruments. very rare for an MIJ.. I'm interested in Lakland 55'deluxes, JO's, other jazz basses 4 or 5 string..prefer maple neck, but would like see whats out there. thanks for looking
2. seen his Mono Neo stuff.. thats Dwayne Thomas Jr.. plays in a lot of Gospel Chops vids.
3. haven't learned to play a song for ages.. then i learn to play this, and it really highlight's flaws in my technique… naturally i tend to stick to licks/runs bass lines I'm comfortable with. I'm sure I'm not not alone there.. its a real eye opener when your fingers are forced to do something different.. a very healthy thing to do though, if its not easy its got to be good imo.. as long as its not painful of course. so important to listen to and learn bass lines to all sorts of music.. this track is not the easiest, never seen the point in playing a bass line exactly the same because some players nuances are there own.. as long as the structure is there ..but it does make you appreciate Randy Taylor's superb taste in his playing… does anyone push themselves to play stuff thats difficult.. 4. reminds me of free jazz.. don't want dismiss free jazz, just sounds wrong to me. no direction at all, not that it has to have.

10. PM'd you buddy.
11. don't like that at all. it actually hurts my ears.. wouldn't like to pre judge it on the rest of his new recordings though.. I've always judged him like Prince, always the experimentalist.
12.
Yes, great loss He was classically trained and apparently always felt that he sold out with his recordings. Sad he may not have realised just how good he was. He was at school with Roberta Flack too and did some great work with her.
yeah i heard that.. my mums favourite singer was Roberta. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcWFOIhY9eM

17.
Maybe you need to stop obsessing about trying to find a perfect solution and simply enjoy playing what you do have access to.
Spot On..!!
18. Listen a lot… Practice a lot.. keep it simple and practice slow to get a clean technique.

20. Very sad to think with all the amazing happy music he made, he ended up committing suicide from severe depression. very powerful thing the mind..
21.
His live album with Willie Weeks on bass is fantastic - and one of the best bass solos ever (IMHO)
its possibly mine and many others favourite bass lines.. Little Ghetto Boy imo is some of the best playing I've heard ever. Willie is playing on the previous record also i believe.
22. Just a scratch on the surface of Donny's music. who knows what music he might have gone on to write. i love this record. i always encourage people who haven't heard Donny Hathaway, to have a listen. his voice is perfection imo..

24. Looking to get a multi effects unit. Really looking for a good octave sound, reverb etc.. to be honest I don't know much about effects, pedals etc.. i used to own a Korg ax3000b, but never really got to know it and eventually sold it. you know the feeling you don't actually know what you want, but you want to try something.. really interested in the octave sound… don't really want different pedals as it might be a xmas present so would be nice to have a multi effects unit.. maybe I'm wrong and i would be better off buying single pedals.? any suggestions or opinions are welcome..
