Those people who swear they'll never buy a Ric because of Mr Hall's alledged tendency to threaten litigation at the drop of a hat, shouldn't forget about the second hand market. You CAN buy a second hand Ric, and not a penny of the proceeds will go anywhere near Mr Hall's coffers. Saying that though, the current price of second hand Ric's is getting so that you can generally buy a new one for around the same price as you'd pay for an old one... go figure!

If it's anything like the bass version(s), they're well worth doing up.

Very impressed so far, very underrated basses indeed. Really need to get it plugged into a "proper" amp...

"Dimed" = Too much chocolate? Too many "Facebook"-isms and American based Forum-isms creeping into normal language. I seriously cringed when my kids started saying "LOL"...:| "Blue Sky Thinking" anyone?

I loved my Ric, but I had to sell it. Bought a Fender MIC Jazz to replace it, which was then quickly replaced with a RickenFaker. My Faker is superb, but I would still love to have another Ric (or the money to be able to afford another Ric!).

Itching to try it out at rehearsal through a proper amp, as just plugging it into the B3 & headphones isn't giving the kind of tonal possibilities that everyone keeps talking about. Sounds nice with both pickups in paralell and passive mode. Really nice to play, as I like the chunky necks (I was between the L2000 and a BB424), as the G&L has the wider neck, it won (though I do still quite fancy a BB424 at some point, if a Ric or Rickenfaker don't come up first).

Just arrived, fresh in from GBBL, a new to me sunburst L2000 Tribute to join my most excellent Rickenfaker. Very pleased with it and the service from GBBL.

When I had my recording setup, I used both PG58's & PG57's for vocals & mic'ing cabs. They sounded perfectly good to my ears.

Another B3 fan, but you may find swapping patches a bit of a pita. They'd need organising in advance. Maybe look at a Line6 Bass POD Live (V2, XT, X3 etc), they do come up often enough on here & eBay. Never tried one, but the GT10B is popular, maybe even look at the Zoom B9.

Just started playing in a band again after a 6 year layoff, first time playing bass again for about 20 years! Feels good to be the bassist again, though I'm incredibly rusty (thankfully, so's everyone else)!

I've seen some pics. I just thought it might be an "easy" mod that had probably been done before. Sounds as though folk are put off by the contents of the control cavity!

Superb. Matamp's are wonderful things, and the folk at the factory are spot on.

Cheers for the link Frank, I'll have a good look around that site. Panamonte, you might want to dissuade me from taking up a soldering iron! I've replaced pickups before, burnt a few pots out in the process, but never rewired something to that extent. I'm assuming that it should potentially be a relatively straightforward procedure, I know what you're saying about the pickup/pole piece heights, but that will take lots of experimentation, where the concentric pot solution should not only allow adjustment on the fly, but an easier way to balance things out rather than getting the toolkit out every time you want to adjust something.

I'm considering getting myself a G&L L2000 Tribute, I've read the reviews, seen the videos and looked at the specs, and think it's going to be a cracking bit of kit for the money. However, there's one thing about it that really doesn't seem quite right... the single volume control. I do like to be able to blend the pickups to get that nice tight & punchy mix between both, otherwise, the bridge pickup tends to dominate the sound. Has anyone ever fitted a concentric volume pot to the L2000?

Another vote for the Zoom B3. Easy to use, easy to tweak, sounds good (though quite a few of the pre-loaded patches are somewhat OTT). Comes with Steinberg Cubase LE (download) & Sequel (CD) so you can use it as a USB recording interface too, there's a downloadable patch editor as well. I've copied a few of my favourite standard patches into a different bank and edited them there, so that I have "easier" access to them. The SVT model does sound great. If you have access to a Line6 POD (any of the various versions), then you could try playing with that as well. I have the PODxt, and the HiWatt & Plexi models work really well with the bass.

I posted something similar in the Amps section, and everyone there said that it was a bad idea, don't do it, it'll sound awful etc, etc, etc.

I'm still looking & researching amps, though I think it'll be a 2x10 combo. I really need to find somewhere where I can try some different amps out. Currently looking at the Ashdown RM 220/420 2x10 combo (favourite at the moment), the TCE BH250 210, or the Laney RB7, as well as scouring eBay & the Amps For Sale section here for something suitable.
