  1. I like an oiled neck (EBMM style) - I dislike intensely gloss finishes on necks. I like the idea of a nitro body but all my basses have poly finishes
  2. We have a huge catalogue of our songs but even after a 20+ song set we always get "why didn't you play 'songX' or 'songY'? Normally the answer is that we're bored of playing it. We need to keep interested too.
  3. However string choice and playing style makes a huge difference to tone.....the only way to make an informed choice is to play them yourself.
  4. Aren't all Fender Precision basses basically the same? Why do they need a different manual for each model?
  5. Somewhere in between but I don't sell my basses. My JV Squier precision (sentimental): I keep this because it was my only bass for like 30 years - I recorded my first albums with it - it will always be mine. My green warmoth JP fretless: even though I have little use for a fretless it's always handy to have one about and I made it myself - so there's that My yellow warmoth P with east pre: I never really bonded with this but I'm keeping it as it would never realise the sum of its parts and I made it. My black status necked warmoth dinky P: This is kept because it's so light and it's the bass I used when i first toured in USA and I made it - it records well so is kept for when the EBMM doesn't cut it - it'd never make its money back either. My black EBMM USA Sterling 4HH: The bass that killed my gas - it's a keeper and has become my goto for all occasions.
  6. Kay PBass circa 1979 - weighed a ton, skyscraper action it was a while before I got amped but when I did it was with a Carlsbro Cobra 90 head with a home made (not by me - i bought it for £30 at SohoSoundhouse or somewhere like that) 1x15" cab
  7. Have you tried d'Addario half rounds - they feel like flats but are much brighter
  8. I use Minotaur wide leather bass straps - can't fault them. https://www.minotaurguitarstraps.com/27-bass-wide-straps?p=1
  9. I ask similar a similar question regarding the public place smoking ban.....there MUST be a UK ashtray mountain somewhere
  10. I love it. Having played under old fashioned huge lighting rigs before LED lights, i learned a long time ago that gloss neck finishes get sticky. That’s why I play a USA EBMM with a gun oiled neck. I always wear sweat bands on my wrists too - they stop the sweat running down your arms.
  11. I used to have a full flight. They’re really too heavy to lug about airports and eat up luggage allowance. Great if your gear travels as freight though. For the last few years I have been using SKB iSeries cases. They’re very very strong, much lighter and have wheels. Win win win
  12. I fly EasyJet a lot. I stick the bass in a SKB iSeries case in the hold. Only ever had a problem with an inappropriate surcharge at Pisa airport ( documented in another thread). Apart from that I’ve done dozens of flights on easyJet with my bass and hasd no issues. A good flight case is worth it. Can’t beat SKB iSeries.
  13. After playing at the Echoplex in LA, learning that Josh Gabriel (of EDM act Gabriel & Dresden) had come to see us and later remarked to our guitarist that we had a super tight rhythm section - coming from someone whose rhythm section is defined by an electronic clock and considering we gig without a click, that is a complement to be proud of. I think.
  14. 'You don't want to know where my fingers have been'
  15. Probably one that's been made into a clock or an ashtray or something.
  16. My strap would be too long to play in the same position sitting down. In answer to the original question : Do you sit your bass on left or right leg when playing? Yes but only when playing while sat down.
  17. BTW - if any of you reprobates fancy a SL&G tee-shirt you can get 'em here: https://sadloversandgiants.co.uk/shop/ Moderators: please delete if this is against the forum rules.
  18. Why do you send the newsletter out twice? I do only have one account here on basschat but i received the newsletter at both 11.30 and 11.47
  19. I used flats on a P for years and years, then got turned on to half rounds on a P for several years. Nowadays I'm roundwound on my EBMM
  20. We have several designs of shirt. Every time a new one comes out we get a freebie. I generally wear them for work, normally under an open Levi western shirt or the like. We never wear them on stage. The only 'band' t-shirts we've allowed anyone of us to wear on stage is our drummer, wearing his Motörhead t-shirt - bear in mind we're an 80s indie band.
