  1. Isn't it......and the swear filter changing see you next tuesdays into nasty pasties takes all the venom out of it. Let it be known that they will NEVER be forgiven
  2. What with the cost (and hassle) of carnets, on top of visas, he's right. Almost all our gigs are in EU - that's our market. I can see us never gigging again. And with my business likely to go bust, that effectively destroys my life. UK leaving SM equals my life being destroyed. Thanks leave voters. You nasty pasties.
  3. When I wrote to my MP (tory) to explain the difficulties his only response was to ask how many employees I had. When I told him I had seven, which is all I have, he just responded in a 'stinky poo happens' kind of manner.
  4. Got my EORI number sorted - trying to sort out a VAT and duty deferment account BUT due to the amount of traffic and high value of the equipment we bring in HMRC require a £2.5 million bank guarantee!!! When our balance sheet is c£500k getting a £2.5m bank guarantee is impossible. The issue being that VAT will be levied on the VALUE of the goods we bring in, not the cost of renting them. We have looked at 'rehoming' a quantity of equipment here, we have a large warehouse, but UK market is so fickle it is likely we will stock the wrong gear, besides the UK market alone isn't big enough to maintain adequate utilisation to pay for the gear. If UK leaves the SM I can see us going bust within a month.
  5. I own one of them too - I have exclusive UK distribution rights to the largest inventory of a certain type of capital equipment in EU (based in Germany)to rent business to business into the UK market. Everything is imported temporarily and I have 2 or 3 artic trailers a week going back and forth. Nightmare
  6. So how would that work in the gig economy?
  7. and when the club you're playing ask to see your right to work credentials?
  8. Exactly - which leaves us in a situation, doesn't it? Will you cancel if it transpires that you'll need visas? - or will you try to work illegally? As one of our party has global commitments with another act as his 'day job' , we will never pursue the illegal working thing. We've met many European bands who have worked illegally in USA but when we went we did everything legally, at great expense too. The idea that we'd have to get visa'd up for every EU gig means we'll probably never gig again.
  9. I so hate the idea that there are voters in UK who wish to strip themselves and their fellow countrymen of rights and freedoms we have enjoyed for decades. Who in their right mind would want to curtail their own personal freedom? onanists
  10. So how might one clean a criminal record? Asking for a friend
  11. Fingers crossed UK won't leave the EU, anyway. Problem solved.
  12. We're all 5 from the EU - 4 from UK and 1 dual Eire/UK national - he'll be OK
  13. But this isn't just 'travel', is it? It's working - a totally different kettle of fish.
  14. And therein lies the problem. How long does it take to get a visa, if necessary? Our USA P1 visas took 3 months.
  15. We have a gig booked for December 7th in Sicily. Should we be applying for visas?
  16. Ours is projected
  17. Don't I know it. I really struggled recording albums in the analogue days back in the 80s. We tried to record to a click but the drummist was all over the place. I take so many visual cues from my drummer that playing along to something he has already recorded is nigh on impossible. So many overdubs and so many timing errors that went all the way to vinyl. These days with digital, it's easier because we can put the drums in time before recording the bass.
  18. You can see our guitarist look quizzically at the keyboards at 4:06....a solo is completely missing LOL
  19. We were told it was over 1k - there's an upstairs too! - yes we closed the 4 day festival at that venue (the festival has several venues across the city)
  20. OK I'll join in - I chose this because this was the first time we'd played this song in over a year! We hadn't even rehearsed it - it was a spontaneous choice for a second encore at Wave Gothik Treffen in June in Leipzig - the biggest gig we played this year.......the keyboards temporarily failed during the middle8 - it makes me question if rehearsals are actually necessary.
  21. Agreed I tried to select just 10 but soon found myself with 20 and gave up - I'll just take my iPod classic and a supply of battery packs - that said there's loads of stuff I've only got on vinyl which i haven't yet got digital copies of.....decisions, decisions
  22. Nothing unusual about that. Our drummer can't play to a click - he doesn't even understand when we talk about the number of the beat: the 3 or the 4 etc - he doesn't count while drumming. After 40 odd years he still plays to a variable tempo, accelerating through rolls and getting to the 1 a fraction early. I've got used to him.
