1.
My fretless Wal is unlined and has the dots at the fret positions - it was normal I believed for lined fretless Wals to have the dots in the between-frets positions. Hence this isn't a pointer to this instrument having been de-fretted in my view.
No not true. There are some fretless Wals with the dots between the fret lines. My Pro also has it like that and I have seen a few others with the dots like that too. But they are just more rare.
 2.
Also selling Moog Taurus Bass Pedals..... see other thread close by. ATB Paul.
You must have been a Genesis fan! double neck plus Bass pedals....
 3.
I've got a copy. Give me an hour and I'll post a copy of the transcription up on here.
I am interested in that Bassplayer version too, maybe you can mail it to me? That would be great! thanks
 4.
No, Too shy was all done with the Wal. (Nick told me) I used to have that bass and if you mix the 2 pickups and get the tone controls set right, you can get very close to a stingray sound, believe me. But if you listen to the instrumental version (B side 7") or the 12" mix, you can hear clearly, just the Wal on it's own. The only other bass you can hear is, where they've double tracked some parts with a synth.
I have had two Mk1's (still have one). But I can not get that kind of slap sound out of it. It has a really nice slap sound but different then what I hear on Too Shy. But a Pro bass sounds different than a Mk1 anyway. I can't help thinking he dubbed some pops on a Stingray, like in 0:29, but it can also be a synth bass slap sound. The later slapped part sounds more Wal like to me though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16EmCjup5LM
 5.
This bass was played on the 1983 No1 hit, Too Shy (Kajagoogoo)
Great story. And great bass line on Too Shy! I think I hear two distinct bass sounds and (at least) two bass lines on the song. Some slapped parts sound more like a Stingray to me. I think he overdubbed some bass lines on that song (with another bass)?
 6.
Does anyone know which basses John Giblin used for Babooshka and Breathing (on the Never for ever album from Kate Bush)? And on the Grace and Danger album from John Martyn? Are those his fretless Wal bass? and which Wal bass did he use? Just curious. I can't find any info on that.
no one knows this?
 7.
I believe John Giblin moved from Wals to Zon for his fretless playing. I saw a more recent video of him in the studio playing a Zon. I've tried to find it again to post it here, but to no avail.
Does anyone know which basses John Giblin used for Babooshka and Breathing (on the Never for ever album from Kate Bush)? 8. great bass! too bad it ain't a fretless. Otherwise I would have seriously thought about buying it.
 9.
I will find out next time i see him.I dep for him in a Country band that he plays in.
ok great! let me know. And give him my compliments on his playing!
 10.
That's not John Giblin, it's Alan Thompson. Not sure what the bass is, but he's been using them for decades now.
I know see you are right and that the first poster made the same mistake! Sounds exactly like John Giblin on the Grace and Danger album. He even looks like him (although it is hard to see on that video). I think John Giblin is using a Wal fretless on that album? Did he also play that Wal on Babooshka and Breathing by Kate Bush? Still interested to find out what bass is used by Alan Thompson in that video. Sounds great!
 11. Does someone know which bass John Giblin is using on this video?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uvg_4XIZ5cA...feature=related
 12.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
That one was on a Dutch market place site a week ago. The body and the neck are not matching. The Neck is a MK1 neck and the body is a Pro body. Also there are three dots missing above the 12th fret and I think the neck is ebony. I think it used to be a fretless neck which is swapped with a pro neck. Still nice though bit not totally original. I think it will never be sold for that price.
 13. I think John Giblin is very underrated. There are no clips of his fretless playing on youtube that I know of. I would love to see it. Grace and Danger is my all time favourite 'fretless' album. Anyone know what John Giblin is doing lately? there is not much info on the internet about him. Did he play fretless on any albums for say the last ten years?
 14.
You may be thinking of the BB3000s, which has similar pups/bridge but V/V/T controls (and a slimmer neck), or possibly the Korean built BB3000 basses which have different pups (at least three different versions)/bridges (at least two variants) and are almost always active (BB3000A, BB3000AF etc).
Yes, I was talking about the BB3000A which is the most famous/common BB3000 I think. I had one of those. Great basses good luck with the sale.
 15.
Black BB3000 with ebony board, and original Yamaha hard case. Bought new in Japan 5/6 years ago and been in storage ever since.
I thought these basses were only made in the 80's not 6 years ago? I had one in white, nice bass. I still own a BB1000S which is one of the best basses I have. edit: now I see it is Japanese RI of the 80's BB3000. It has different pickups and also different electronics and knob configuration and bridge then the 80's one. So it is a different bass altogether. Didn't know there was a RI. Are those the same pickups as on a BB414? they look the same but considering the price I doubt if they are the same.
 16. I am selling my Aria SB-1000-E bass. It is from 1984. I am having this bass for over 20 years. It is the 2nd bass I ever owned. This bass plays like a dream. It still looks great, but after all those years it has some small bumbs (nothing major though). Added to the original pickup are two active EMG jazz pickups. This makes this bass much more versatile than with the original one pickup configuration. The bass sounds very good, the bass has a very tight and well balanced sound. It has separate volume controls for each pickup and a treble knob. With the toggle switch you can change between the pickups. Beside the added pickup everything is fully original. Price: 500GBP's (or 600 euros) plus shipping. No case. No trades. Also selling my 1977 walnut finish Fender Precision, see other add.
 17. I am selling my '77 walnut finish Fender Precision. It is 100% original, no repairs or changes, no refinish or refret. It is a great sounding and playing bass. It is has a very nice playability. The neck is still in great shape, so is the rest of the bass. Only some bucklerash on the back, for rest it looks great. It is not heavy, not as heavy as some other end 70's P's that I have played. It has the original pickup and bridge covers (including the original mute) and thumbrest. No case. I am not a P guy (anymore) so this one has to leave. No trades. price: 1450 GBP's (or 1700 euros) plus shipping. Serial: S760164 Potcodes: 137 77 12 for more info or pictures please PM me. Also selling my Aria SB-1000 1984, see other add
 18. A Wal ProII is passive and the Pro IIE is active but they look the same. But what is different on the ProIIE tonal wise? Do the knobs have different functions then the passive version?
 19. Nice to meet you too! To clarify: it was not sold unseen. I had seen some pictures of it and also played on the bass before I made up my decision. I was looking for a Wal MK1 for some time now after I sold mine a year ago which I regretted. But still this one sounds and feels slightly better then the one I had although it is not a huge difference.
 20. Yesterday did a rehearsal with it and today a gig. And I like it. At last I have a Wal MK1! (again)
