Hello, For sale is my Aguilar GS112, the one with tweeter. I bought two of these a couple of months ago as I had joined a new band that semed to be going places and I needed something modular for gigs and practicing. Unfortunately as is my luck, the band are not doing much at all and I cant see it ever taking off, so I am selling one as for now at least one of these is plenty for smaller gigs and practicing. The cab has stayed at home since I bought it as I only use one for practice and is in great condition. It has a few scuffs on the corners but no marks or tears or anything like that. It is light and powerful and has a fantastic tone and pushes some serious air for a small 300w cab. Two of these stacked is just awesome! I would like somewhere in the region of £240 as these are £399 new, but happy to accept offers. No trades unfortunately as there is nothing I need. I will considder shipping if you need it but I would prefer a pick up if possible, I am based in Cheltenham. Send me a PM if you would like any info, I will get pics up when I get home this evening. All the best, Nathan *edit for price adjustment and pictures.

SOLD!! Apogee One Recording Interface
NJE replied to NJE's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale

Due to financial crisis and lack of real use, I am selling my Apogee One recording music interface. Apogee make some of the best recording equipment out there and this portable interface is no exception. Fantastic quality audio interface with Phantom power, XLR and Jack inputs, it has a built in high quality mic handy for acoustic guitars and scratch vocals, and even playing music through this makes a huge difference to the quality of tracks. Full details and spec can be found here: http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/one.php This comes will all leads and fully boxed and has been used less than half a dozen times (mostly because I cant work Logic) since I bought it in March, and is in near perfect condition. I can supply pictures if anyone wants them but I dont have a camera with me now. These are going for £161 new at digital village, I would like £125 or very near offer. Happy to answer any questions just drop me a PM. Many thanks, Nathan

Seth Lakeman - Poor Mans Heaven. Some fantatsic double bass which I can only describe as earthy and haunting. Fantastic music I am on the verge of buying all 5 albums on CD I love it so much.
His playing on 'Room for Squares' and 'Heavier Things' is great. It's a shame and a surprise that he's not playing with John Mayer anymore-although Sean Hurley is really cool too.
I saw Shaun Hurley on Mayer's recent tour over here, good player no doubt, but not as interesting as DeLa. Saying that I think JM has tamed his music down a fair bit and it is very different to the tunes on Room for Squares which has a bit more pace and is a bit more complex for lack or a better word. I dont think DeLa could get away with playing like he did on Room for Sqaures on the newer Jm stuff so perhaps it needs someone a bit for tame for the new music.

I see some "heated debate" in the future of this thread I personally think Nicky Wire from the Manics is pretty poor but I think he writes a lot of their stuff or at least lyrics so fair doos.

I am just listening to John Mayer's first live album - 'Any Given Thursday' with David LaBruyere on bass. His tone and playing is just phenominal. His playing is busy but classy and really drives Mayer's tunes on. There is also some fantastic improv sessions particularly during Neon at the end. Go have a listen, great music and a brilliant bass player, a huge insperation for me.

Another recent convert to the world of modular 'small stacks' here. I have been through smaller combos with extension cabs, big combos on their own, and big stack stacks and can honestly say my back and gigging life in general has got better since I ditched big amps and 4x10 and 1x15 rigs. Combos can also weigh a huge ammount like my short experience an SWR Black Beauty showed me. Running an Eden WTX head and two Aguilar GS112 Cabs at the moment. The cabs are a one hand lift and with a lightweight head your laughing. I can do bass, gig bag with head, and one cab in a single trip. Planning on using one cab for practices and two for gigs and I can fit the lot in a small Ford KA it turns out. Its the future!

Thanks for all of your posts and kind words. I have had lots of messages and can say that this is now finally on hold for someone until Thursday when it should be going to a new home. I had a few people message me after sorting this deal out so if for any reason it doesn't go through I will get back to those people in the order they PM'd me to see if they are still interested. Thanks everyone.

If it was me the first thing I would do with that sort of cashmis get an Aguilar DB751 and two Aguilar DB112 Cabs. I never got on with Ampeg for some reason but that is a good option if they are your thing and they always seem to be popular and in fashion unlike some other amps. Just a note though, almost any amp will suit Rock/Metal IMHO. I have seen some seriosuly heavy bands using Ashdown, Euphonic Audio, Markbass, Eden, SWR.... the list goes on. I suppose it comes down to whether you want a valve tone or not to start with. Just find something you like and make it work for you If you want to be heard maybe go for a cleaner sounding amp. I heard a guy in a Cardiff based hard rock band using an EA Iamp, great sound a cut through guitarist no bother.

I just bought an Aggie Cab from Mark (Gunsfreddy2003) great cab in excellent condition, great price, great comms and a generally top chap to deal with. He even delivered it as I was unable to collect due to car troubles, highly recommended. Cheers Mark.

Apologies in advance for a massively shameless plug here, but I have a EBS Proline 2x12 4 ohm cabinet in the for sale thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=97033 They are amazing cabs, very clear, very punchy and despite not being Neo cabs are much lighter than anything else I have owned and no hassle to move on your own. For some reason you can pick up the Proline cabs quite cheap as everyone goes for the Neo. Its a shame because they are Incredible good and if you want another cab to go with it, I think Bass Direct have a few other cabs in the Proline series available used. Good luck with your search.
I recently bought a Marshall DBS7400, but don't yet have proper bass cabs to use with it. I've played it through one of my PA Cabs (15" + 8" + Tweeter) and the sound is montrous, even though its an 8ohm cab and the amp is designed to deliver its 400Watts into 2 ohm. Anyway, I seem to really like the sound of 12" cabs (more than 10s and more than 15s), and have been looking around for something suitable. There was a Marshall 4x12 cab going (7412), but this was montrously heavy (74 KG - almost 11 Stone!) and even then was only 4 ohm so still not getting the max out of the amp. So what I'm ideally looking for is a 2 x12" 4 ohm cab, able to take 200 - 300 watts continuous, with very high peak capability (The DBS 7400 can peak at 4000W into 2 ohm) Then I want another one exactly the same so that I can have one on its own, or 2 stacked to give me a 2 ohm 4x12 4-600 watt continuous rig, according to the requirements on the night. I'm guessing that two 2x12s would be a lot easier to handle than one 4 x12, and would also allow me to phase my expenditure. Also being 2x12's it wouldn't have to be lightweight stuff and hence might be cheaper. Marshall themselves used to do '7212' cab, 400W at 4 ohm, wighing in at 32Kg each, so a couple of these might be ideal, but I've never seen one for sale. Anyone got any suggestions (I haven't got a huge budget) Thanks in advance Clive.
Thanks for the advice guys, I read the manual 3 times and just now on my fourth read spotted the line "The Jacks are wired in parallel" . . .stupid! So I think after reading your replies I will probably go out from both Jacks in the head. Like Protium said, at least if one goes wrong or gets pulled out I still have sound. I think I will get OBBM to make me up some nice cables to do the job. I presume I can have Jack to Speakon cables made to do the job? I prefer speakon's as they cant be pulled out by stray feet as easily. Thanks for your help chaps, my headache has gone now. Its amazing how I have managed to get by not knowing these things, always had single cabs though so I gues thats almost an excuse. Cheers, Nathan

Hello, I am having a bit of a mental overload trying to work out how I would wire up two Aguilar GS112 cabinets with my Eden WTX260. The Eden has one Speakon and two 1/4" Jack speaker outputs and the Aguilars have one Speakon and two 1/4" jacks on their back panel, but I have no idea what will be the best way to connect it all up. My head runs most powerful at 4ohms and I know that in theory, two 8 ohm cabs together should give me 4 ohm load, but how will I know that my head is actually 'seeing' 4 ohms? Can I daisychain them, so: Speakon from head to jack on cab one, then speakon from cab one to Jack on cab 2? Will this make my amp run at 4 ohm? EDIT: I posted the above questions and got some good advice from the gentlemen below so I know kind of how I will set things up so nothing explodes. However I still have a couple more really stupid questions I cannot find answers to. 1. If I use the Jack outputs from the head to go to the cabs, do I have to use both of them or can I use just one Jack and one Speakon? Will this still be in paralell? 2. Does it matter which of the two Jack sockets I use on the back of the cabs to go in from the head and out to another cab or are they the same, and both work as "ins and outs"? I am sure I used to know all this......

Hello all, Up for sale / trade is my EBS ProLine 212. Its a fantastic cab, simply the best I have played and owned. I have had so many comments on its clarity and punch, even from the drummer in my band who has little interest in anything non-drum related. So why am I selling it? Simply, it is just a little too big for me. I have just moved and it is a nightmare to get up my desperately narrow staircase, and I struggle to get it in the boot of my girlfriends new Polo without collapsing the whole inside of the car. It seems quite a petty reason but when you practice twice a week it becomes a real pain. I will make a point of saying it is not a weight problem. I find these cabs very light considdering they are not Neodynium and on a good day I can actually do a one handed lift with this. It is in excellent cosmetic and working condition with only a few minor scuffs on the plastic corners (I suppose thats what they are there for). These are £653 new at Bass Direct so I would like something in the range of [s]£325 [/s] [s]£295[/s] £285! for it. I have a new cab now so really need to shift this. I am willing to ship but collection is preffered and I can also discuss meeting for a sale somewhere if need be. Happy to answer any questions, just send me a PM. Tech Spec: Frequency Response 30 - 18k Hz Sensitivity 99 dB Power Rating 400 W RMS Impedance 4 ohms Height 69 cm / 27" Width 58 cm / 23" Depth 44 cm / 17" Weight 34 kg / 76 lbs Edit for second price drop.

Thinking of trying a new amp (micro/small amp) - From MB to?
NJE replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
It might be worth having a look for a Eden WTX 260 or 500. I have the WTX260 and it is a fantastic amp, big sound plenty of volume for most band situations, plenty of tone shaping with a real clean modern tone to it. It also has L/R Aux in and phones out which is fantatsic for silent practicing, as well as tuner out and mute button. I love mine, it can do sparkling top end when I need it to or bid dub bass and most things in between and the best thing of all is that it weighs about 3lbs and goes in my gig bag. I love it and am actually thinking about going up to the 500w version if the 8 piece band i play with starts doing bigger gigs, they are so loud! -
Just a quick not to say if you get a chance go and check out a chap called Marc Broussard. Some fantastic Soul/Blues/Funk music with some really classy bass playing, and one of the best recorded bass tones I have heard in ages on his latest album 'Keep Coming Back'. His bass player is a Nordstrand/Nordy endorser I think, thats how I found out about Marc. Link to myspace: http://www.myspace.com/marcbroussard

Although I usually try and get stuff by ear to start with, I did find that typing the name of the tune and 'bass' afterwards in youtube usually yielded some good results. Also Marlowe DK's websites were really useful for some tricky parts I couldnt hear properly on some recordings. Its good to see how other people play the tunes too. Superstition is great fun to play and reproducing the original synth bass (I dont think it was originally a bass guitar) on 5 string is great fun and I actually quite like the original line. The band I am playing with want to change the key and do a medley with play that funky music, I am sure that it has been a million times before but its a bit of fun. Some fun tunes there, let us know when your playing, too many rock/metal bands and not enough funk.

Lots of Super J basses, where are the Super P basses?
NJE replied to NJE's topic in General Discussion
Wow this post got brought back from the dead! It seems since I originally posted there have been a few more company's building 5 string Precisions and with some active EQs and extra pickups, the most recent I have seen are the new Nordstrand P basses. I have also noticed The LowEnd making a kind of 'Super P' as well, but these are £2000 basses plus. I know Sadowsky make one as well but only the NYC basses as far as I can see. I think the point of my original post was that at the time (and still actually) I would love a reasonably priced 5 string P bass with maybe a Jazz or soapbar (Nordstarnd big single or fatstack) at the bridge and maybe a simple EQ. Squier made a fantastic Jazz V deluxe, why no 'proper' 5 string P (I know Squier made a 5 string P with 2 jazz pickups). I think the closest thing to a more stock off the peg super P is the Fender Precision Plus mentioned above and they dont make that anymore which is a shame as I remeber it being a very good bass. Anyway no real point to what I am saying. I just wondered why The Jazz bass look and layout has been so heavily tweaked and modified for 'Super Jazzes' (sometimes to the point where they dont sound much like a good old jazz) but noone has done it much to the P bass until recently? I know there are plenty of companies making superb Precisions, but I still wouldnt mind seeing a 5 string P/J Precision for under £1000 (without modifying). Maybe as has been posted before there is simply no need for it. Sorry rambled on a bit incoherently, it is friday to be fair.
