Daveybass

Dave (aka Daveybass) recently bought my Aguilar cab and i just wanted to say what an absolute gentleman he is to deal with. Great comms and swift payment leading up to the transaction and a pleasure to deal with while we had a slight hiccup with delivery. Without going in to too much detail, the courier I used (DHL ) managed to damage the cab in transit and I was away when Dave received it. Instead of getting shirty and and upset when he got no response from me, he was a true gent and stayed cool as a cucumber and was EXTREMELY patient while I tried to claim my money back from DHL. It took weeks to sort out a payment for Dave and he was very understanding at all times with great comms throughout. Do not hesitate in dealing with this man, he is a true Gentleman! All the best Dave.
2. I have just completed a trade with Paul (aka PGTIPS) and he is a top chap, great communication, and I am totally happy with my new Case. Another fantastic transaction on Basschat. Cheers Paul

SOLD!

I had a bass in mind when I decided to sell this but I am not so keen on it anymore. I am now interested in trades for the right 4 string bass and have edited the opening post to reflect this. Ideally I am ideally after something a MusicMan Stingray but If anyone has a Fender Custom or Nordstrand, Sadowsky or something with a Leo vibe I would be able to add some cash to a trade. All the best, Nathan
4. Never played a Fender Reggie but I can honestly say that GB basses are stunning in every way. Dont worry if you have the ability or about just playing it at home, if you like it and if it will make you play more and make you happy then go for it i say. There is one on ebay at the moment as well for £1300 buy it now. I am conteplting getting a used GB spitfire at the moment but its a lot of cash for me at the moment. DO IT I SAY!
5. I never saw this thread first time around and it makes for some interesting reading. I have been thinking about the whole 'investment' bass and what will retain or grow in value recently and I am looking around for what brands and instruments will keep their money and wondering what is the vintage Fender of the future? The reason I ask is that I have been looking at the secondhand value of some of the high end custom guitars available like Sei, Overwater and GB and secondhand they make nowhere near their original price. I have an Overwater and have been looking to buy a GB Spitfire. I have seen one that was a show piece which would have been the best part of 3k new up for sale in immaculate condition for £1300 which to me is rediculous. I would love a custom bass built to my spec but I know at some point I am liable to get into a financial situation or get bored and need to sell it at some point and the thought of losing over half the original price seems quite scary. Yes you should have an instrument you love and play and enjoy without doubt, but would I be better of investing in something like a limited run Fender Custom Shop? They seem to hold their value quite well and seem to be in demand. Similarly I have seen NYC Sadowskys go for high prices secondhand. Are custom shop Fenders and Sadowskys more likely to hold value? is ther another brand like Alleva Coppollo that will be a future classic? I know Wal's go for silly money but are they likely to go up any more now that they are being built again? Who knows but interesting to hear peoples point of views on the subject.

SOLD!

Hi everyone, Trying a different approach to my descriptions when selling so all details and info is below, hopefully its a bit more to the point than I usually am About the Bass: This is an Overwater J Series 5 string Custom Classic, built in 2003. As far as I am aware it is an Ash body (it feels and sounds very similar to my old Fender which was Ash) but the Classic J Series have an option of Tulipwood or Sycamore as well so it could well be either of those. It also has a maple neck with a Birdseye Maple fingerboard which is stunning. The hardware is all Hipshot, Ultralite tuners and B style bridge. The pickups are Kent Armstrong’s made for Overwater before they started using their own I believe, and the bass is fitted with a John East BTB-01 EQ. This is essentially the Bass/Treble stack pot from the J-Retro 01 which is bass boost only, treble cut and boost, and a pull for ‘bright’. I don’t like a lot of knobs on basses so this is perfect for me. The Bass and Treble are very flexible as you would expect from John East and the bright is great for slap. Why I am selling it if it’s so great: I have had the bass several months and it is fantastic in every way. This is my second Overwater and the build is stunning, the sound is fantastic, and it plays like a dream. The simple reason for sale is that I am just not getting a lot of use out of the B string and I have a bad GAS attack for something new, it is no reflection on the bass, just fancy something different. I am looking for a really nice 4 string and need to raise some cash to fund it. In an ideal world, like most folks on here, I would have the cash to keep it. Condition: This is not a bass that has been sat in a bedroom or stuck on a wall, never played, never gigged, never been out of the house. It is a working bass and is 7 years old this month and as such it has marks and knocks. If you want an exhibition/museum piece this is not the bass for you, it has been played and loved and used like an instrument should. The most notable knock is the one on the edge of the body which I pictured below. I got the bass in a trade and it came to me in this condition. I had my second thoughts about taking a bass with damage (I usually like mint condition basses) but in fact because it had a few marks I wasn’t too overprotective of it and happy to gig it. Before the bass arrived I had the cash to pay for a re-spray with Overwater in case it bothered me, but to be honest, once I received it played it and plugged it in I never gave it another thought. I saved the cash and it has not bothered me since. I also did think about having the jack moved to the end of the bass and convert to 4 knobs so the jack would be where the mark is but again it didn’t bother me that much but may be an option for anyone interested in it. The knock doesn’t affect the playability and you don’t know it’s even there unless you turn it up on end. It also has a few tiny marks which don’t show in the photographs and some buckle rash which I have tried to capture in the pictures. Again all marks and dings were on the bass when I got it, I have not added any more. I accept that on most instruments, dings and knocks reduce value, unless of course you have a vintage Fender in which case it’s put down as mystical ‘Mojo’ and a good thing, so I have reflected its condition in the price below. Price: I got this in a trade for a bass that was itself traded and so on, so judging a price for this is difficult as I didn’t hand over any money. So I have done my best to judge a fair price and here is the logic behind it. If you feel my calculations are incorrect and have an opinion on what I should be charging please PM me with your thoughts and I will happily take comments on board. A new Overwater J Series Classic starts at £2095, a figured Maple fingerboard is an extra charge of £195, Hipshot Hardware judging by the overwater site is an extra £100, and the John East BTB unit is £107. This gives a replacement value of approx £2497. I have seen Overwater J Series basses up on here for anything between £1000 for more ‘standard’ spec, and up to £2000 for some good condition basses which were a bit fancier. I am asking for £950 for this with like new Hiscox case (which didn’t come with the bass originally and retail at about £70). I feel in mint condition this bass would be worth about £1200 so I have taken off the rough price of a re finish or the cost of a new preamp and relocating the jack to the end of the bass. Trade wise I am after a four string, and I am looking for a MusicMan Stingray or Fender Jazz although open to anything with a Fender inspired design. There is also possible cash available towards the right bass if you have something along the lines of: Fender Custom Shop, Vintage Fender, Nordy, Sadowsky etc. Other info: If anyone is genuinely interested and wants to come and play the bass they are welcome and I will happily ship it insured but will need to discuss postage costs first. I will take PayPal but obviously cash on collection would be ideal all round. Please PM me if you have any questions, and now pictures:

GB guitars

The Overwater is stunning, plays equally as well as the GB but when you get to the level of build of both GB and Overwater I think there is only really difference rather than better. The Overwater has a much more 'Fender-ish' vibe to it but beautiful build and mine has a birdseye fingerboard which is lovely. I am just finding I dont use the B much and my current band arent keen on it either. I just think it may be time for a change and get something smaller, lighter and with a string less. Wish I could afford multiple basses and hang on to it as it is stunning and has a wicked tone but I just dont have the money.
Ha!..yeah the playability was awsome...an all round stunner...well the GAS is your demon, all i can do is egg you on.. whats the Overwater like? yeah sorry Mikeg...
Yeah it was fine when I played it last, it could have been the very small ashdown I played it through or maybe flat battery. Still a fantastic bass, so clear and precise sounding, absolutely love it. Its the weight I love too, very well balanced you feel like you could play it for days without a twitch in the back. Yeah Mark definately wants a sale. He has some nice vintage basses and plays a lot of upright from what his wife has told me. You are just adding fuel to the fire, I wanted this when i first moved to Cheltenham a few years ago and to find it still for sale is just too tempting. Anyway apologies for hijacking the thread, as you can see there are a lot of people that are very enthusiastic about GB basses, go try one out, oh and there is one going on eBay at the moment, maple neck and trans blue body with what looks like quilt maple.
No i played it a month ago..didnt notice mate but i didnt fiddle too much...the bass was very hifi like my Modulus but had more to it....i do remember it being very light, and easy to play.the bound fingerboard is killer and the top and headstock is so nice... ..its such a nice bass, and awsome looking...i asked Mark if he would trade for the Fender or the Modulus but i couldnt talk him round...he wants a sale... .do it bro, if it was me i would sell the Overwater and grab this..its a beauty...one of Bernies best
GB basses are stunning, I have had the pleasure of playing 3 now and all mind blowing. They are expensive but for what you are getting they are worth it for what you get. Just to sidetrack slightly, Bubinga 5, I was in yesterday playing Marks Spitfire too, did you actually play it yesterday? If so did you notice that the EQ on it was a little odd? When i plugged in the treble and bass seemed to do very little, but the mid control had the normal range. Might just have been the amp but I couldnt get the range out of it like I did last time I played it. I love this bass and am actually thinking of going back to 4 string and selling my Overwater J to buy it just a stunning bass.
yes played the ONE in around about sound in cheltenham...it was awsome...very special instrument this bass... here is the link...spoke to him yesterday and hes selling...light as a feather and so many tones available.... if i could i would... 12. Pre eBay BUMP! will happily considder offers on price.
13. This amp is not a "previous version of this amp" it is a Ashdown Electric Blue, I never claimed this was the latest EVOII version, I clearly stated it was 2 years old. I was merely saying that a new electric blue would cost £225 which is correct, and if I remeber correctly £225 was about the price this was new approx 2 years ago. If you felt my listing was in any way misleading you should have PM'd me with any constructive criticism or comments, and I would have tried to clear any misleading details up.
This is the previous version of this amp. The new Evo II version, (which sells for £225 new) has a variable compressor as well.
14. Well spotted, I have just checked and this is the 12 inch version not the 15 inch, apologies. Thanks for the kind words, these are incredibly good amps and if it wasnt for some massive spending on a new rig recently I would have had it.
I'm probably wrong but that looks like the 12" version to me? Either way, these are fantastic amps and well worth a punt for practicing or even small pub venues from personal experience
15. Hello everyone, On behalf of my very good friend I am selling a Ashdown Electric Blue 180 with a 12" speaker. He is a professional guitarist/composer and a good bass player and bought this amp for use at home and for a handful of acoustic performances he did on bass with an artist he was working with. Here is one of his sites: http://www.owengurry.com/ It is approx 2 years old and in excellent condition and has been kept in a smoke free home. It is a great sounding combo with plenty of guts, and sounds extremely good with his 5 string Lakland. It is 180 watt RMS with extension speaker out which can turn this into a good gigging option with extension cab. These are £225 new and I would like to get somewhere around £140 for it but happy to listen to offers. The amp is currently located in Sevenoaks (TN13 1BH) and collection is more than welcome. My friend has also said he will consider meeting up or courier if needed. Please Read: I understand that selling for other people can cause some concern and be a little suspicious. My friend is not a member and didn’t want to sign up to a community/forum just to sell amp, so I agreed to post for him. I have good feedback on the forum and am happy to do the deal with anyone interested or I can pass on my friends details and you can deal with him direct. He has huge positive feedback on eBay and I am more than happy to endorse him on this forum and be responsible for the transaction. PM me if you have any questions. Edit for change of details.
16.
I've just found an article on the subject - an interview with Chris May about the Aspiration series. But dammit, they don't exist without pictures...
Thanks for posting that, I have been keeping and eye out for developments on these new guitars. The prototypes in the pictures look very good, very overwater and they dont have that nasty headstock that the previous prototypes had. That PJ Jazz still looks excellent, I am praying there is going to be a 5 string Jazz coming.
17. Congratulations, this was mine before Leprechaun, great bass. As far as I can remember (could be very very wrong here) the controls are: Bottom two - Volume (pull pot to make the bridge single coil) and pickup blend Top three - 3 Band EQ, Bass Middle and Treble I presume but you will soon figure out the order if not. Not sure what you mean by frequency centres but if you have any questions ring Overwater, Chris May remembered this bass when I called him about it. I remember the EQ is very subtle on this bass, it wont give you extreme EQ. I was on the verge of having Overwaters new preamp put in before trading it, might be worth a look at if you find the EQ is not doing what you need. Enjoy the bass, I love my current Overwater.
18. Hello, In July my girlfriends parents gave me this case for my birthday. At the time I had a Overwater Progress III which fitted perfectly but less than a month later I got a Overwater Jazz 5. For some reason a 36" scale Progress fitted but a 35" scale Jazz wont so since then this case has been sat in the cupboard gathering dust. The case has only been used a few times and is very clean and tidy. The only very small thing is that the front bit of the latches are slightly tarnished, no idea why, perhaps just because its been stored for a while. It is immaculate inside, with two keys and the latches work perfectly. I found these on Guitar Guitar for £79 I would like £60. I would also consider a trade for a Hiscox STD-EBP (the bigger Hiscox case) or good quality gig bag like a Mono or ProTec or IGIG with some cash adjustment if in good condition, but I will need to check measurements first. Any questions, feel free to PM me.
19. SOLD - pending the usual......
20. I agree with the other comments, £2000 is a lot to spend on an experiment. You can get some stunning basses second hand for a lot less. I picked up an Overwater 5 for £800 a while back, hand built stunning build quality and less than a new USA Fender. I cant remeber the scale length now but you can pick up a Sadowsky Metro for £1500 on here, and some of the new Dingwall fanned fret basses are well under 2k. I would say look for a 35" scale (or fanned fret Dingwall) especially is you detune and if you do get a 5 string put the 4 string away somewhere or give it to a friend for a while so there is no temptation to play it. I tried 5 string twice, the first time I had one with a 4 string played it a few times but always went back to the safety of 4. In this instace the 5 string was sold and i didnt try again for another 5 years. Second time I bought a five, played only that bass for a 2 weeks solid and then sold my 4 because I didnt see the point in it when you can do the same and more with a 5. I have never looked back. Mark at Bass Direct in Warwick has a huge range of basses in and will sit and talk you through every single one and discuss what you need in a bass.
21. Hello all, Up for sale is my USA built Eden WTX260 head. I have recently had to increase the power of my rig because of some big gigs coming up and I am likely to not have any PA support. I need to shift some serious air in the new 8 piece band and just need bigger gear unfortunately. I was hoping I would be able to keep this as a backup for gigs but I just dont have the money to keep it. The amp is about 2 years old and only gigged half a dozen times and then only used as monitoring as I have used the DI and gone through the PA. It is in fantastic condition with only one or two very very small marks which didnt show on the camera. It will deliver 300 watt at 4ohm and is very very loud for such a very small amp, a lot louder than my old Ashdown ABM head and so much smaller and lighter. It slots in the gig bag and just makes gigging so much easier. I have used this with EBS and Aguilar Cabs and it is very versatile with a huge range of tone, clean and punchy but no too sterile and handles a B string beautifully, even my drummer couldnt believe what this tiny little box does. The amp has some very handy functions accessed through the 3 band controls like the bass boost and mid shift control. It also has built in copressor/compressor bypass switch which is great. For a full list of features check out the Eden site: http://www.eden-electronics.com/products/a...div/wtx260.aspx The amp will come in original shipping box with power cables and the original manual. These are £499 new at Bass Merchant, The Bass Gallery has one in secondhand for £449 and the last one on here for sale was £350. I would like £300 or make me an offer, no trades sorry. I will ship this fully insured if anyone wants or happy to do a local pickup so you can test it out, I live in Cheltenham. Any questions please PM me.
22. After a few months of ups and downs with bands (mentioned in another thread) I have found myself needing some more power in the amp department. Normally my set up would have been fine but my drummer has a set up like Mike Portnoy from Dream Theatre (well not any more) and I have a keys player and a mic'd up 3 piece brass section to contend with. So without thinking too hard I headed up to Bass Direct this morning to sample the latest delights Mark has to offer. I played a few bits and pieces and have finally settled on a MarkBass Little Mark II and a EBS Neo 410. Simply massive sounding and LOUD! I have had an EBS cab before and loved it, crystal clear and tight, sometimes a little too clean so the addition of the MarkBass balances things out a little. Watch out brass section! The bonus of going up was trying out some of the best basses out there at the moment. I have played the Nordys and Roscoe's before and both are amazing in every way so just tried a few I had never played before and I was massively suprised by what I played. 1. First thing I saw was a Elrick Platinum 5 string singlecut. It was stunning in every way, B string was clear and tight and the whole bass was so well balanced. Simply one of the nicest basses I have ever played and the first singlecut. To be honest I thought I would really notice the extra bulk of the singlecut but it made no difference to playing and might have helped its fantastic resonance. I think mark is getting in their Jazz inspired basses and i cant wait to try one, Elrick firmly on the list and I usually only like more traditional designs. 2. Sadowsky Metro. Wasnt expecting much for some reason but a very nice bass, nice neck, fantatstic build and resonant, something that I look for in a bass. Generally a fantastic bass and very playable and one of teh nicest Jazz style basses I have played. 3. Alleva Coppolo. Sadly very dissapointing, after a lot of the hype I have read i really wanted this to be the best bass ever. Each to their own of course and everyones opinion and playing is different but I found the sadowsky more comfortable to play and thought it sounded better and had a bit more 'life' to it. Stunning build a looks amazing but did nothing in my hands. Anyway an excellent morning (the amazing bacon baguette from the cafe next door to Bass Direct helped) and Mark couldn't have been more hospitable. I bought secondhand gear which I doubt Mark makes much on, but he was happy to talk and chat, and I was treated like I was spending 10x the ammount. Once again an amazing experience at Bass Direct and massive thanks to Mark, once again showing how shops, not just music shops, should be run.
23. I have not been on here much recently as I was, and have been, going through a period of complete disinterest in my bass and bands in general and substituted it with mountain bikes! I was playing in two bands up until recently and despite the music being good and the people good to play with I was losing interest fast mostly due to the lack of gigging and practice. One band lost a keys player and did nothing for probably the best part of three months over summer, the other band couldn't get a drummer to turn up at practice or a singer most of the time and we havent practiced in nealry 2 months. So I quit one band last week as I don't have the time to be wasting and I need any band I am in to be making at least a little cash (originals never make money). Because of my lack of enthusiasm and sheer frustration of bands I thought "i dont need all this gear" and because of a lack of funds sold one of my cabs thinking it will be enough for practice as the bands are going nowhere fast. That was about 3 weeks ago and last night I had a practice with the covers band. I fully expected members not to be there, no enthusiasm and no gigs, and I get there prepared to say I am quitting and no longer have the time and energy for being in bands. I get in the room, everyone turns up, we play and it was dynamite. No practice for months and we were all on the ball and playing brand new tunes all the way through first time at a more than adequate level. Not only that, but there are three well paid gigs coming up in the next two months as a warm up! So I find myself supercharged with enthusiasm, wanting to practice more and now looking at replacing the cab I have just sold......here we go again! Why is it that i always seem to get so down about music on the verge of breaking point and selling everything and then something happens and I am right back up again? I have had so many ups and downs with bands and enthusiasm over the years, does it happen to anyone else? is it ever just uncomplicated and easy?
24. Not using Basschat much anymore so sorry to those who sent me messages and had no replies, the messages used to come through to hotmail and dont seem to anymore... Anyway this is sold but also tied up in an insurance claim with DHL who managed to mangle it in delivery and deliver it late despite paying extra for 24 hour delivery....god bless em, completely useless just as I suspected. Fist time I have used them, it shall be the last.
25. Still here folks, BUMP
