1. Does noone else think that this is likely to be a joke? possibly mocking the initial post especially as a number of teh responses have 'lol' at the end. Might be alone in this crazy idea.
2. Hello, has anyone out there fitted a Fender 62 pickguard to their 60s classic vibe P? I'm not thrilled by the tort guard on the classic vibe and would like a much more authentic looking tort. I also want the holes for the pickup cover as I'm lazy and dont want to mark it out and drill through the Squier guard.
3.
This US MTD 535 on the video is around 3500$ (with some fancy top and another extras they around 4500$)
Oh I see, I didnt watch to the end of the video so I missed that. Still a little on the expensive side for me unfortunately.
never liked the fancy tops anyway.. all MTD seem to do is either spalted maple or some other exotic top.. i really like the natural burst and would buy the cheaper model for that reason NJE.. you still enjoying that SR5?
Hey mate, yeah still rocking the SR5. Its grown on me so much, bit heavy and the string spacing is a niggle but the sound is to die for and teh B string is amazing, my band love it, they would kill me if I got rid of it. It will only get replaced for something very special like a GB or MTD 535
4. Sorry to sidetrack but is there a new cheaper USA MTD 535?
5. A vote for elixirs here. Not long ago I put a set on the stingray V and have been very very happy with them and no signs of the coating coming off. They are not super bright but more than enough for me, in fact I like the sound a bit more now they have died down a little more. Still plenty bright enough for slap and they cut through but the best way I can describe it is they sort of have a warm top end. I have to use them, my sweaty hands destroy strings so fast. The only other strings that have held up are Super Slinkys. I mya go for a set of Ernie Ball coated strings on my jazz next heard really good things. Definately worth getting a set.
6. Up for sale is my Squier Classic Vibe Precision in Fiesta Red. These need very little introduction, just superb basses in every way, great build quality and superb feel to the neck. This is about 9 months old, mint condition (still has plastic on the scratchplate) and has been in its case in the studio for 90% of its life. I wanted to look and sound like Pino and couldn't resist getting one of these for my Soul band. Sadly the soul band is doing nothing and hasn't done anything for about 4 months and I dont see the situation getting better. Another project coming up requires an upright so that is what this will go towards. It has a crazy grain on the neck, its hard to capture on camera but its almost holographic. If you move it in the light it has a 3D kind of flamed neck, just a beautiful piece of wood. Its hard to move this on, it is probably one of the best feeling basses I have owned second to my Overwater Jazz, no joke. These go for £318 online (I paid more than that) and Guitar Guitar had a secondhand one in at around £280 recently, so because of the condition and because I dont want to lose too much I would like £250. Alternatively I will trade it (with cash your way) for a NS Design NXT or WAV. It has daddario strings I believe and I will send it in the original Squier shipping box and packaging. PM me for shipping quotes though. Here are some basic pics, will try and get some better ones if anyone wants any. 7. Thanks for your messgaes, I should have updated the post but just completely forgot so apologies. Before Christmas I had the funds to get an upright but Jan and Feb are looking pretty miserable due to a cam belt change, MOT and major service on the car. I will be looking again as I need one for a project coming up so I will probably be sending you all messages in the near future to see if you are all still selling.
8. I really need to make a trip up to Mark at bass direct soon and have another go on a Dingwall Precision or Jazz. I want to change my bass but feel bad going up to marks just to try gear and not buy. Anyway I tried the bottom of the range Dingwall years ago and was very impressed with the feel and the fanned frets didnt effect me in the slightest. The only thing I couldnt get my head around was the size and look of the bass. I couldnt take one into band practice and I would be mocked for a funny looking bass. My best friend is a pro guitarist and he has been mocker for taking a Parker Fly to a gig and not bringing a strat. Im also a big guy so these smaller basses always look like toys on me. This is where I think the Super J and P fit in. I love Fender designs but I dont always want a Fender tone. I love the look of a Precision (I have one) but dont really like the sound, so for me a chance to get a kind of vintage look with a 'better' tone thats not a true Fender Precision and some good innovations like fanned frets, is a bonus. I cant wait to try one.
9. I'm afraid it would take a lot for me to go back to a standard USA Fender and even then I would never buy one new. I have not played a single USA Fender bass that I thought was worth £600 let alone what they charge. Nasty looking neck, funny finish, bad neck joints, sloppy pickup recesses and bad fret jobs. In comparison I have played a lot of Squier classic vibes and they have all been perfect! Don't waste your money on new Fenders IMHO, get a squier or a Mexican classic Precision. They are not all perfect but 4 out of 5 have been incredible to play and well finished. Good luck with your decision hope you find something you like.
10. I cant believe I have never heard this band before, gutted as they have already split up but I have two good albums and their previous bands album to work through. This is a bit middle of the road for them but a great band and when you work through the albums you can hear massive Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Velvet Revolver and Wildhearts influences. 11. I did a search but found nothing, it seems Aguilar are doing a 350w Tone Hammer Head: http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_amplifiers_TH350.htm It looks even smaller than the 500 watt version, might give it a go if its cheaper than the 500.
12. Loved the look of Dave's bass last night. I have enjoyed the Dingwall's I have played and if I ever gave in to my GAS and went after a 5 string Precision this is likely to be one of the first places I would look. Personally I love fender designs, he got it right IMHO but I am quite happy to have as many companies as possible build their own versions but with their own innovations and a huge range of custom options. Unfortunately due to my experiences over the years if I was looking for a good quality well made Precision or Jazz the last place I would look would be Fender, I would take my Squier over a USA build P any day of the week and if I had a lot of money it would go on a Sei or a Nordy Jazz.
13. This is the exact spec I would request if I were to order a Nordy, have you thought about a sale?
14. Well Im just off to snap the neck on my bass and cut my hands off, because compared to that its all I deserve for my crimes against music......
15. I have only ever heard positive things about ishibashi but you need to wait for something to pop in their U-box as I believe they dont ship new stuff to the uk link: http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/
16. One more vote for Apogee here, I have a lot of friends in music production and session work and they all swear by Apogee. I used one for ages and when the new mac and ipad finally get here I will be buying apogee all the way. Best friend had an irig on his iphone and it was useless, went in the bin.
17. I got this Squier Classic Vibe a couple of weeks ago, been in a case since I bought it, but recently dug it out for a proper play at home a few days ago. Phenominal bass, just mind blowing quality and playability and my first precision for 10 years. In a different class to my ex 2010 USA Jazz and a quarter of the price. One thing that blew me away was the crazy maple figuring on the neck, its got a weird holographic/3D flamed heavy grain going on. Its not great in the pictures but you get an idea. Best bit by far though is that it makes me feel like Pino when i play it (unfortunately the ability of Pino doesnt come with the bass). 18.

Hi,
I have an NXT amber finish in excellent condition plus bow. Send me a PM if you are interested. Cheers, Stewart
I have sent you a PM. cheers, Nathan
19. I know this is not technically allowed but I have seen a few Wanted ads in this for sale section so thought it would be worth a shot. I am after a NS Design EUB, prefferably a NXT but Wav or even a higher model would be of interest. Send me a PM if you have one to sell or know of any going. Cheers, Nathan
20. Im interested in the Warwick Alien Korean but cant seem to find anyone who sells them, Thomann only do the really expensive one. The bass will be amplified so it needs to have a good plugged in sound but no real need for it to be loud acoustically. Still toying with an NS Design Wav or NXT as it would look great in a trio and I have always fancied an upright, new challenge and all that....
21. To be honest most of Mayers stuff is quite middle of the road. I love a lot of his stuff but some of it recently has got a bit bland. The first proper album room for squares is superb, great acoustic guitat work and lovely basslines. For rockier type stuff the only album really is Try, by the john mayer blues trio which is Mayer, Pino and Steve Jordan.
22. ooh you big tease! ha ha. Would have been a nice option, currently looking at some Ibanez acoustics but noone seems to stock any and they look a bit plastic. A few Tanglewoods and Takamine's about but all fretted which is annoying.
23. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations for a fretless acoustic bass? Just to set the scene a guitarist friend and I are thinking of doing some acoustic arrangements of classic pop tunes with a girl singer and he will obviously be on acoustic and spanish and I want something that is not a electric bass. I was thinking about a NS Design NXT but they are expensive new and I cant find a used NS EUB anywhere so thinking about a fretless acoustic instead. I have been around a few makers I know but not many seem to make a frteless model, either that or I am just not finding the bit where it says 'available fretted or fretless'. Can anyone suggest any particulars models on a rough £3-400 budget?
24.
Tune!!!!
Yeah that is a great tune but sadly very little to do with McFly. It was written by Daniel P Carter who does Radio 1's rock show and his writing team which is basically the song writing members of the band 'A'. So the story goes he was asked to write a song that sounded like the band Jellyfish and came up with star girl. McFly also covered a Jellyfish tune called babys coming back. Daniel P and Jason Perry from 'A' pretty much wrote all of that McFly album and recorded and produced a couple of their albums I think. They are a brilliant writing and production team and have done some brilliant albums with various bands, coincidentally they also wrote and produced another 'King of the jungle's album, Matt Willis from Busted. The whole album basically sounds like a watered down 'A' album with some massive nods to bands like Jellyfish and Def Leppard. Sorry for the lecture, I only mention because I love spreding the word about 'A' I think they are vastly underrated and I also like McFly and Jellyfish, and Matt Willis album sadly!
