1. The StingRay has now been sold. Thanks for all the interest and comments. Alex.
2. Hi Everyone. I'm selling my Mexican made Fender Telecaster. I bought it a few years ago from my guitarists dad who had bought it new from GAK in Brighton. It's never been gigged and has had home use only. It's a standard Tele in three colour sunburst with the stock pick-ups. No mods or upgrades at all. The serial number dates it to '96 - '97 on the Fender website There are a couple of dings on the headstock, a small scratch on the bottom edge next to the strap button and a small scratch on the top of the body. I've taken pictures of these very minor blemishes as best I can. There are no other dents, dings or scratches anywhere else on the guitar including the neck. The neck is 1-Piece Maple and the body is Alder. Everything on the guitar is standard so the fender website will give you all the details. I've just bought a Gibson Les Paul Junior and really can't justify having two guitars. So this one has to go. If I were to keep it the only thing I would do it the guitar is have it set-up nicely because I'm a fussy bugger. I bought a black scratch plate which I had on the guitar in the past but it's no longer in perfect condition. I also have a Fender strap and the standard Fender branded hardshell case for the guitar. This is in really good condition and it's really solid. All these are included in the sale. I live in the Horsham area of West Sussex and anyone is more than welcome to come and have a play. I'm more than happy to ship this guitar in the hard case and in the box I received the Gibson in. I'm looking for SOLD. If you live outside the UK and Ireland drop me a PM and I'll see if I can get a quote on shipping. I have uploaded 22 photos of the guitar to Flickr here so you can see more images there. Sunny day photos Any questions then feel free to drop me a PM or leave a message. Thanks, Alex.
3. I've always played Trace Elliot amps. I have a TE Series 6 AH300 made in '91 going through a TE 4X10" cab brought at the same time. I've played through lots of amp and there's isn't much that compares that I’ve tried. One of those V series heads would be nice though. I can’t recommend it enough, what you get for your money in the second hand market is amazing. I’ve seen some major TE rigs sell for under £600 on BC. I've never liked Ashdown amps myself. Although I think I've only used the cheaper models. If you're seriously considering a change in set up and moving to Trace Elliot then you need look no further then the for sale thread here. I've been having a poke through today and there are some great bargains to be had.
4. A lot of people rave about the S1 switching on the Jazz bass. I'm suprised this hasn't been sold.

6.
It has a small amount of worming on the back, otherwise in excellent condition. Push/pull pots for coil taps on both pick ups, in series/parallel, in/out of phase giving 21 options. Jimmy Page shaped neck (thinner in the middle than at the ends). Swap for a Bass or a cheaper Bass and 300w+ portable (as in small and light as i'm getting old) bass combo of similar value (about £2000).
The finish on that is stunning. Gibson sure know how to paint a guitar. Good luck finding a deal.
7. I can't comment on using it with bass but for acoustic guitar they're amazing. I'll see if I can find out if a bass will cause any damage from a friend.
8.
Good stuff, I always run my delay into phaser, so each individual repeat hits teh phaser on a different part of its cycle.
The guitarist in my band uses it as well to great effect. Chect out the song An Open Space on my bands myspace (link in my sig) for some delayed phaser goodness. He uses EHX pedals but it's all one and the same.

10. I'm a huge Mars Volta fan but I've never thought about the bass tone. I will have a listen *grabs iPod*.
11. This thread may help
12. Thanks for all the comments guys. The finish is stunning, the sound is amazing (the only bass I own that I play straight into the amp without my sansamp between) and as CK said "for a 18 year old bass, its in remarkably good nick". The ding I have photoed is the only cosmetic issue. I know not shipping/posting the bass limits the number of potential buyers but I don't want to risk it. Like I said in the original post I've had some bad experiences in the past with posting expensive large items. I think we'll all agree that a broken bass is a waste. Like many, I have a one in one out policy with basses and guitars, and at the moment I'm starting to think I should hang on to this and sell one of my guitars instead. I've had some interest though so I'll see those through and if it doesn't sell then I'm thinking I'll hang on to it. Thanks, Alex.
13. I managed to get outside with the bass and camera this afternoon so here's a bump for new pictures. If anyone has a special photo request then leave a message or drop me a PM and I'll do my best. I'll do my best to answer any further questions.
14.
beatuful bass mate, if i had the cash for it i'd snap your arm off for it, good luck with the sale anyways And it looks like honey burst to me, lovely colour
I was 95% sure it was honey burst so thanks for confirming that. I do love the colour.

Gibson
Heh, I'm in the Gibson Little League with my Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass. But I love it, mostly the neck, but also the fact that it is quite unusual to see one out and about. I didn't love the stock pickups though, so I put some EMG-HBs in it I can't leave a bass alone.
How wide is the neck on the Les Paul basses?

Gibson
I accept the comments about MIA Fenders being in the same price bracket as an MIA Gibson. What I really meant was there's no equivalent (except the IV) to the good MIJ Fenders you can get for ~£400-£500. Not that Gibson didn't make them, just they were badged Epiphone.
My MIJ Jazz is a lot nicer to play and is built to a higher quality than my friends Epiphone Thunderbird. So I certainly agree with you there. I do enjoy playing my Thunderbird more though and I find that the Gibson build quality is excellent. I also think i get some much needed cool points from playing a Thunderbird. I own and love both Jazz and Precision basses but you do see so many about, still cracking basses none the less.
17. eBay provides more comedy gold then an episode of aunties bloomers.
18. The Carbon Copy is a great pedal, for it's size I don't think it can be beaten. I have a MXR Phase 90 next in the chain after mine for even more fun.
19. I have the Series 6 AH300 head and 4X10" cab and it really is a great sounding amp, I can't imagine the combo is much different. £300 sounds like a reasonable price for what you get.
20. I don't know the first thing about Alembic but I can't personally justify 5k on an instrument.
21. Ask at your local Fender dealer and see if they can order one in for you. A friend of mine did it this way, I think he paid around £30 or £40 for it though. I'm sure someone here could recommend a cheaper alternative. I'd be interested in what anyone else can put forward as I'm thinking of getting a replacement an can only think of eBay for online sale.
22. Certainly some nifty camera work going on. I reckon it’s going to be a bit of a mess and I agree that it’s not worth the grand the seller’s look for.
