1.
Don't listen to the nay-sayers. More information here. One thing to watch is that they are 30" scale only...
Thanx Red, I already found the web site and mailed em about a UK distributor. Fortunately for my marriage they don't have a UK distributor I think they will ship to the UK but the cost would be too high for me. As to the nay-sayers, well check out the web site and look at the swept-wing vintage in sparkle red, makes you want to learn the Jetsons theme then surf into the sunset ! Mind you, this is from someone who learned on an original Burns Bison and still plays his Jap Crap Gibson Triumph copy regularly so maybe my tastes aren't quite bass-mainstream. Isnt a Fender something Yanks call a bumper ? Who the hell is this Warwick guy anyway, didnt he drive for Toleman and Renault ?? Really showing my age with that
2.
Here's a mate in the UK at a pub gig, not that he normally likes to be centre of attention....
Hes got more bloody necks than I've got strings !!!
3.
Do you care what it looks like ??
Aww come on, get one of those and join a Sixties cover band doing surfer numbers ! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in my eyes its gorgeous coz it doesnt look like a P or J bass wannabe
4. Cant see what the fuss is about, music always had a 'not like the choons when I were a lad' aspect. I'm 53 years old and yet I keep finding stuff coming into the charts every once in a while that is quality. I also delve into the Internet radio stations which has led to me enjoying a lot of Arabic music as well as some grunge etc. that I missed the first time around. Don't complain about the stuff around today when you can listen to Mr Scruff !! There is so much out there its scary. Oh and I loathe Radio 2
5. Got a Carlsboro bass combo coming my way in a couple of months (dunno the model, couple of years old I think) and cant complain about the price.... FREE Should keep an old cheapskate happy for a little while and if there is something I dont like about the sound I will just remember how much it cost me
6. I WANT one..... drool I hear the divorce courts are quite friendly places nowadays.....
7.
Just a thought - if four other guys called Dan moved to Japan before you, you could be a fifth Dan without even taking up Judo.
Kindly leave the room sir
8. Italia Modulo Tipo 3 is my current love partner Tipo 3 Sounds like a standard P-bass but looks f*cking gorgeous Not a great fan of P-basses but this could change my mind away from Gibson et al. Unless someone comes up with a Guild B301 for the right money .....
9.
Then in your opinion (with your reasons) what is?
Surely good construction is more related to playabilty ? Most tone is the result of pups and amps etc. the subtleties introduced by wood choice etc. are largely lost on the people who actually listen to the music you produce. Just my opnion as a sub-par plonker you understand
10.
Remember that when the bass is on the stand the bass clefs look like sad faces
Glad somone else noticed that, cool idea but maybe the clefs need a little reworking, different font/typeface etc. Not a designer so cant offer much advice.
11. Sweet looking piece of kit, hope it plays as good as it looks.
12. Links working fine here, many thanks for this. Scary to read about rhythm and blues being new music !! As an aside, I have a PDF of a slightly later book (How to Play the Electric Bass by Carol Kaye 1969). If anyone wants a copy send me a PM with an e-mail address and I will post it off.
13.
"Areet" (or is that Bolton, or Bury, or elsewhere?).
Ignorant Savage Everyone knows its t'Areet in Bolton (please someone drag me back to my mothers village in Kent, I'm going native !!)
14.
We do not drink, take drugs or move in an excitable or provocative manner
Whuh ?? I understand the provocative bit (zimmer frames are a bastard to get in a groove with) but the rest is incomprehensible to me. Welcome to a forum thats so friendly even ageing bedroom players like me can have an equal say Oh and Burnley has its good points. Now Accy, thats another (odd) story !!
15. Quick bump on the feedback part, kudos to Andy. Just bought a Zoom BFX-708 from him and delivery was prompt and and properly packaged. +1 on this Andy.
16. 4 for me but whether that is out of preference or incompetence is another thing. Why add extra strings to the 'badly played' list
17. The idea that someone would actually PAY me to make the noise I make is too far fetched !! Should Satan be seen wearing thermal underwear and the gig was offered then yes.
18. Awww, that Framus looks exactly like the one I turned down 30 years ago ! Couldn't live with the skinny neck after learning bass on a Burns Bison. The guy wanted 25 sovs for it and I thought it was too much !!
19. The price isnt exactly 'intro' but I would like to try one or hear the views of someone who has before I condemn it. The blurb claims that each one is checked and set up before they are shipped out, maybe the quality control accounts for a big chunk of the price. As to the appearance, well the pink/green one is calling to me in a kind of 'in yer face' way
20.
Jamey Aebersold play along volume 1- How to Play Jazz
Nice to see Abersold getting a mention, his stuff was my first intro to bass over 30 years ago. Personally. Im concentrating on trying to get to grips with some simple funk, Bootsy's slower stuff etc. (failing miserably at the moment tho). Ah well, one day I will break free from 0-5
21.
ugh, you shouldn't drink meths if it's full of dirt from your strings
S'Ok for the drummer though ? Just tell him its a new flavour AlcoPop ?
22. My 2c's worth... One of the highlights of my life was watching RTF back in the 70's at the Palace (I think) in Manchester. They did a double set, first half electric, second acoustic (It was the Corea/DiMeola/Clarke/White line up). Another would be browsing through the vinyl in HMV in Manchester and slowly becoming aware of some fabulous music being played on the shop system, Weather Report's 'Black Market' as it turned out. Add to this some of my fave albums, Passion Grace and Fire (Al di Meola, Paco de Lucea and John McLaughlin), Miles Davies doing Porgy and Bess (Summertime is painfully gorgeous) and finally Stan Clarke's and Jaco Pastorius's debut solo albums. As a final touch I want 'A Remark You Made' played at my funeral, a most beautiful piece of music. Low points ? Only one, back in the late eighties/early nineties (I try to black the exact time out) when I was dragged along to witness a couple of hours of musical masturbation by the Pat Metheny group. Horrifically dull !! There are other pieces I could list in the love/hate categories but it would be to long and dull, suffice to say I regard myself as Jazz-tinged rather than an out and out enthusiast. Oh and this thread has given me plenty to check out so thanks guys and gals.
23. Cant really add a great deal to whats already been said but do keep a bass lying around even if you do quit. I stopped all the band crap 20 years ago ( wife/child responsibilties etc.) and just kept the bass lying around. For years it was a case of picking it up a couple of times a week and just noodling for an hour or so. For some reason the bug bit again a while back and I'm glad I kept my hand in. Hell, I'm even considering moving out of the bedroom and maybe finding a guitarist (*spit*) to jam with. That and maybe a few lessons to boost me back up to speed.
24.
We've been paying together for 20+ years and sometimes it's just telepathic
Nowt to do with the 'Last Orders' bell being rung then ? Thats the usual reason for drummers speeding up
25. No problem with my drummer, always does exactly as told, only slows down when the batteries run out and ,best of all, NEVER drinks my beer. Damn that Boss Micro BR is a godsend
