Hey Thom, Yes you are absolutely right. It is the Kick back, 1x15 combo with the 700 RB MkII head. Retail on GAK for £790....It is a crime but unfortunately it is the way it is The head its self even goes for £500+ so this as a combo for £275 is a really big steal!!! but nobody seems to notice that just now Hopefully will get some bites from putting the thread back to the top-ish of the list! Where to get my new DB set up in Birmingham ?
stewartmusic replied to solofunkyjazz's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I just got my new DB today, and very nice it is too. It needs setting up though, and I want a pickup fitting to it. I live just outside Birmingham, any suggestions as to where to take it please ? Thanks .
Tom Martin in Banbury is about an hour outside Brum, he is a luthier with his son George who specialise in making basses. I daresay that he would be able to do the set up for you. I have one of his basses and his workshop is excellent! Dara -
What kind of small amp are you thinking of? I have an Ashdown 515 minirig I would trade with some cash your way?? andy
Hey andy, Im actually think more along the likes of the phil jones amps, i recently tried a flightcase from a local guitar shop and loved it. The mini rig looks good but unfortunately its bigger dosent have enough power for what im looking for. Sorry, thanks anyway!! Dara

Hey everyone! Unfortunately for me I'm selling my GK 700RB MkII that I bought from "Vipa" in early Feb of this year. Fortunately for you its a fantastic amp and a very reasonable price of £300 ono The amp is in great working condition and sounds like a cannon with the bottom B or a double bass. It has a great Bi-amp built in and I couldn't be happier with the sound! I paid £300 all in (inc travel) to get this amp in Jan and would like to, if possible, make my money back as it is still in the great condition I got it in from Paul and I'm pretty sure that was a great deal as they still retail from GAK for £790!! I have it in Edinburgh just now, will be in Glasgow later in the week and willing to move it via train for the ticket fee (i have a railcard so usually fairly cheap and I don't throw things around as much as a courier!!! The only reason I'm selling this amp is because I'm a student without a car and use a lot of public transport to get to and from gigs and when I'm doubling and taking this amp the taxi drivers aren't that nice!! Im looking for a quick sale as I have my eye on a PJB amp so please send me your PM's fast!! no silly offers though Please help before I send it to the depths of FleaBay Thanks, Dara P.s i also have an Ibanez for sale in the Bass thread and would crack a deal with the two for £370, the bass is selling for £100???

Hey, came across this and thought I could put my 2 pennies in. The reason I've been told that "we" (majority of players) use fingers 1-2-4 in the lower 1/2 upwards positions is because our 3rd finger is the weakest out of the four on the hand, this is because it shares a tendon with your 2nd finger therefore restricting the movement as well as endurance (although im sure people have trained their 3rd fingers to cope with a bit more) With the methods etc I, like many, have been trained through simandl however as I have progressed I've been messing about with extensions and pivots. Mainly around the D#-F# (not in one stretch but outwith one semitone) say you were playing a run of D#,F#,E,F on the G string, I would use 1st finger for the D#, extend my 4th finger for the F# then retract the 4th finger so that it return to "normal" positions. You could also play the same run with a pivot keeping your thumb in the same position but making a definite shift with your hand. One thing that I would say above all is to get to grips with a "mechanical" type shifiting so that you learn your fingerboard as much as possible and only once you have learn that move on to finding ways to make those pesky semi-tone shifts easier to run around. After all before these "new" methods came around people seemed comfortable enough with nice easy simple shifts:) didn't think that this would turn into quite an essay but hope it helps Dara

Hey guys, I had Ken Macdonald in Edinburgh do my bridge on my old bass. He just fitted adjusters but it was only about £50 for that and re shaping the top of the bridge. Might be worth checking him out, I lost his number a while ago but im sure it would be easy to find him. My general point, which im never too clear in making is, buy a bridge from somewhere and get him to fit it, reason being if you try to fit your own bridge there is a chance of the soundpost falling and I'm sure you guys know that. If you have the tools to re-fit a post then might be worth the try..... But def check Ken out...good value and fast turnaround. Dara

Rightyho then! Hey all My name is Dara and I'm currently studying towards my BMus at Glasgow's RSAMD with my principle instrument Double Bass. Ive been playing double bass close on 3 years now and couldnt love it anymore than I do! I have just purchased a Martin Concert 4/4 double bass from Thomas Martin of Banbury get to make that journey on Tuesday, will let you know how it goes Previously played a Thomann contrabass made by the Hora company, thanks to some fellow basschatters for that info In terms of electric bass, I've been playing for around 9-10 years now, about 5 seriously. I use an American Deluxe 5 String Jazz through a GK 700RB MkII combo, again courtesy of a fellow bass chatter! I'm originally from Edinburgh but live in Glasgow just now because of my course, absolutely loving it! Who knows where music will take me in life but i know that it makes me happy just now and thats all that matters!! If anyones up in thge area, give me a shout and we can jam it up! Thanks all D
