1.
Didn't they do something in collaboration with Anne Summers?
Lmao! nice.. erm has the bassist Jean Beaudin in it (not sure on spelling) an avid Conklin man, very good
 2. Just having a listen to them, very weird band but the bass playing is pretty good anyone else heard of them??
 3. Loving the gospel playing, that guy is amazing
 4.
Ultimately, as was pointed out earlier, the area that the OP is getting into is highly subjective and I suppose what I'm doing is trying to explain the personal context of that. The OP may not hear music that has the same qualities as Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin today, and if I were to suggest Pig Destroyer or Nevermore as modern bands that I believe are excellent in terms of songcraft there may be considerable disagreement (especially those decrying Metal as the province of fantasy nerds).
Couldnt agree more! Thats just one vein of metal, that mainly being power metal. If you look at the other stuff coming around now such as metal-core bands like Parkway Drive and to an extent Architects there hugely skilled musicians who are excellent at what they do. The bands that are coming about now like this are brilliant, but thats just my opinion
 5.
I have always had diverse tastes but it's just the general lack of musicianship I am lamenting more than anything and I think that is partially down to music "commercialisation". Playing ability is absolutely secondary now to marketability/image. But getting away from the commercial music scene, where are the great players?
I think at the minute the music scene is just exploding if your into it, there are some really talented players coming about with huge skill levels! Protest the hero are all great players. There are plenty of great bands coming about that are only just being noticed - Your Demise, Dead Swans, Architects. I have seen all of these and they are also amazing live. There are good bands out there But thats only on my concerned genre, the rest seems to be dying a death - as mentioned the jonas brothers, Miley Cyrus, Metro Station. It really is all about marketing now and how disney or any others concerned can sell an image to kids

 9.
Would it be complete sacrilege to say that I prefer Ben Kenney's bass playing??
Yes I love Dirk so im going to be a bit biased... Ben is a hell of a player though
