1.
I was literally about to start a topic about these bridges? I don't understand why they are priced like that, how do they affect the sound, if at all? Sorry may seem like a naive question. P.S. I don't want to steal your topic but it's kind of related.
I paid around £35 brand new for mine a few years ago - a Badass 2 with the pre-slotted saddles. Whilst I think it improved my Squier, I wouldn't even have entertained one at the current prices. A Gotoh 201 or even a standard Fender type bridge will do just fine and won't cost the earth like the Badass suddenly seems to.
2. I put one on a Squire Affinity P-Special a few years ago when they could still be had for a sensible price. Did it alongside an overhaul of the electrics so hard to quantify the difference the bridge alone made but I ended up with a much better bass. Have a Gotoh 201 on another cheap bass and I think it made a difference there, I'd buy one over a Badass now based on price alone - I'm tempted to flip the Badass on eBay seeing the price they go for!
3. Hi Jim, Don't know of any permanent stuff going but I'll keep you in mind if I need a dep for any of my gigs mate. Good luck! Mike
4. Nigel's suggestion of a pedal with two preset values is a good one. Alternatively, some volume pedals allow you to set a minimum level - I've seen Morley models with this feature. Means you can quickly step from loud to quiet and back but still have the ability to adjust in between if needed. Obviously you then lose the ability to mute with the pedal, but if you've got that functionality elsewhere (pedal tuner?) then its no problem.
5.
Nice one. That's Good Apollo 2, right? Cool album but Good Apollo 1 is one of my favourite albums of all time - bass and the drums are perfect.
It's "No World For Tomorrow" that Taylor played on, got to throw some fancy moves that he doesn't get to show off with the Foos!
6.
Taylor Hawkins / Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters) Josh Eppard / Mic Todd (Old Coheed & Cambria)
My favourite Coheed stuff is the album with Taylor Hawkins on it, think that's some of the best drumming he's put on record! Amazed that Tim Commerford/Brad Wilk have only had one mention, the first Rage Against The Machine album made me into a proper bass player!
7. Wow, I'd have jumped all over this. If the sale falls through for any reason, give me a shout and I'll take it off your hands!
8. Bumparoo for this - replying to PM's now too. Must be some pedal hoarders out there who need a bigger board!
9. Hi guys, Decided to go for a smaller pedal setup so looking to trade my giant size Flightcase Warehouse XXL case for something a bit smaller. Here's a link to the details/sizes on manufacturers website: http://www.flightcas...sp?id=3147-2678

Int Dims: w807mm x d457mm x h130mm
Ext Dims: w850mm x d500mm x h175mm
It's a huge board, lift-off flightcase lid so the board stays in the base when in use. It's not carpet covered like the current model in the link, but it's still the 9mm hexaboard for the pedals. Super strong board, doesn't flex under foot. I'll also include the super high tech chunk of wood I wedge under the back to angle the board inside the case. I've always drilled holes and used cable ties to secure my pedals, so it's a bit swiss cheese looking, but nothing you can see once its full of pedals! Alternatively, you could cover with carpet/velcro if that's your preferred method. [s]The pic shows my current layout on there. Just for reference, the big gap at the top left is enough to comfortably fit a Line 6 M9 in addition to everything that's already there, so you're unlikely to run out of space on this one. If you can't make it out, the dark strip up the left hand side is a 4 gang mains extension cable tied to the board, will also leave that on if you want it.[/s] Having trouble attaching my pic, uploader doesn't seem to be working for me so will try again later - in the meantime, drop me a PM with your email address and I'll forward over pics. Anyway - I'd like to trade this monster board for something one or two sizes down. I'm in Liverpool so happy to meet/travel within reasonable distance. Would prefer not to ship if it can be avoided but will do if neccesary. In keeping with the rules, I'm going to whack a value of £90 on this beast, against a brand new price of £135, but I'm looking to part ex rather than make a sale. Hit me up with whatever you've got and I'll see if it fits what I need to squeeze on there! Cheers, Mike
10. I think there's a fair few on here who'll go for the "just play it on a synth" option - I know Doddy (and a fair few other working pros on BC) are strong advocates of playing synth as part of your bass-playing armoury rather than struggling with the complexities of emulating that sound with an instrument that isn't really built to do it.
11. I think everyone's covered the bass angle, but just chiming in to say nice one for introducing me to this band - just watched through a bunch of stuff on YouTube and love it, right up my street!
12. No experience of the motors in question but I'd say a people carrier or estate will definitely give more space than a 4x4. Lots of them will fold the seats completely flat into the floor these days so you can get tons in. Alternative that's worked well for me was my old man's Citroen Picasso. It was the old shape so don't know how the new ones stack up, but the boot tool the width of my Musicman case and with the three rear seats removed I could almost get a full bands backline in. Or just do what I did and buy a massive van
13.
We're talking about one guy, playing one tune in a pub right?
Well, I can't speak for the OP and he's the only person in the thread who knows the guy, but I got the impression it's one guy who consistently rags on the OP and his band because he doesn't think their guitarists deploy enough widdling and insists he'd be a superior (and widdlier) replacement, when the OP's experience of seeing the guy play suggests quite the opposite. Sound like somebody you'd invite up with your band?
14.
Earned? Deserve? I'll agree not to call anyone arrogant this time as it seems to upset people, but, come on, aren't we being a bit precious?
I think what's being inferred is that when you've worked hard getting your performance up to a certain standard, why on earth would you willingly involve somebody else who you know won't meet that standard (not necessarily through their level of ability either) when you're engaged as a professional outfit to provide that standard of performance. It's a business decision as much as anything, why jeopardise your reputation by getting someone up, even "for a jam", when you know it'll be crap. Only takes one potential client to be there watching that tune and it's a booking lost. Simple as that, really, especially if its your main income.
15. Haha, I'm with discreet on that! Be great to see how we're putting our man-caves together. I've got a big desk with computer, studio monitors, mic pre and a small mixer to go in mine, plus my stack of guitars and basses - I'm thinking of wall hangers, waiting to see how much space there is when the furniture all goes in! Just can't wait until we get the keys and I can get stuck in to setting it up! Loads of good ideas and food for though on here so far.
16. Moving house after Christmas and because the missus is awesome I'm getting the front room as a music room. It's also going to be home to all her camera gear and a spare desk for her and the kids to do homework etc, but most of the room will be taken up with my music rubbish. She's definitely a keeper! So, I'm down to thinking about how to decorate it and what to fill it with. Curious as to what the population of BC do with their little music corner to make it practical, inspirational or whatever. Would love to see some pics if anyone's got a space they're proud of - its music room porn instead of gear porn! Mike
17. There's only one thing missing from this thread now.....
While collecting it yesterday they spotted another bit of gear which had been gathering dust, made an offer for it which I accepted & apparently after being recovered it's going to a guy who has been discussed on this forum many, many times.
TIM?
18. Pedalboard investigated and PM incoming!
19. Well, he's got at least three different OD pedals in there which (according to the threads) will get get stacked in various combinations. A good dirty valve Ampeg sound would be the starting point really - if your current rig doesn't do that then maybe a Tech21 VT Bass would be a good place to start from, and then build on that with the OD pedals.
20. My brother has a 112 he's owned for years - they're probably the best built 'starter' guitars you can pick up, it's an exceptionally well made instrument for the price.
21. That's even better! I've been after putting my last in the chain clean boost next to my right near the start overdrives for ease of access (use the thing constantly but can never get it close to where I need it under my feet!) and 12 to 15 inches should just about do it. Will try and get the board out tonight/tomorrow and measure up, will definitely be in touch in the next couple of days.
22. Sounds cool - there's two or three tricky runs on the board that could do with getting Georged - I'll try and suss out what I need in the next day or two and give you a shout!
23.
Found an Od/fuzz sound I like if anyone has any ideas. Like the sound Rob Turner of the B.R.M.C gets. Anyone know what he uses effects wise?
http://acapella.harm...e-club-bass-rig.... http://brmcdownhere.com/Gear.php Looks like valvey overdriven Ampegs, combination of various overdrive pedals (mostly guitar ones, not bass specific) including a Boss Metal Zone, Ibanez Tubescreamer and EHX Tube Zipper, Boss/Akai delay pedals and a few other miscellaneous bits.
24. Got any cable with those George L's, sir?
25. Okay, so done some digging - can't find the exact type that are used on the distributor, but there's plenty similar around. Some have the lever to engage/release, some are push-fit and have a hole to stick a screwdriver or similar in to release the cable. Could use either of the below linked terminal blocks, stick them to some veroboard (or make a PCB for something a little more substantial) common all the appropriate connectors together and whack it in a little enclosure with the terminals poking out. Voila, instant tidy 9v distribution points!
