1. Still available (both the Compressor and the Tuner) bump! Make me an offer.....
 2.
MB1. ..Was a Green Warwick Buzzard bass!......................Should have gone to Status!....
Nah, twas a Black Warwick Buzzard. Story goes that John was rehearsing with the JEB and he tried 3 different Buzzards, but each one of them was giving a lot of fret buzz. John got so annoyed he excused himself, took the 3rd Buzzard outside and beat the thing to death! Bobby Pridden collected the bits and had it framed as a Christmas present for John. The only times I heard of John's guitars being broken was once when Keith Moon fell over a Thunderbird and broke the neck off and another time when Roger kept telling him to turn down - he got so pissed off he threw his Alembic down on the stage, shouted 'You play the f***in' thing then' and stormed off.... jumping 12 feet off the back of the stage in his Cuban heels! As for the auto-destruction - I think it was a bit of both i.e. Pete's art school lectures and blind luck. The accident with the Rickenbacker just clicked with him and the audience; becoming a showstopper and gaining them national press coverage but also giving a physical outlet to the frustrations he, the band and a lot of the audience were feeling. I love watching The Who smash their gear, although not at Monterey - I think they tried too hard that night to make an impact and also to upstage Hendrix who had told them he planned to destroy his gear as well. This Youtube clip is great for those haven't seen it - Lego Who! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsSo01FIXk8 I just wanna know who the hell that is on JTUK's avatar! The guy's face in the background is priceless - and a lot like mine when I first saw it!
 3.
I don't think that the number of people in the band is relevant. Unless the restaurant specifically want your band they would probably be happy with a three piece. Are you pros? What would you normally get for playing there on a Sat night? A lot of people think that NYE is a golden ticket to charge lots. A lot of clubs/pubs make practically no money in Jan/Feb and need the Christmas/NYE events to make enough to cover this. I'll echo the comment above. It's mid August now, only 4 months to NYE how many enquiries have you had or are you likely to get? I had the same argument with my band over £160 each plus free meal (on a normal Fri/Sat we would have got £80 each and a staff discount), they turned it down and I spent NYE that year watching F.....g Jules Holland on TV.
It is relevant sometimes...we know landlords who figure the band fee on number of band members. Don't ask me why though! This particular pub we'd normally get around £200 so a good mark up for NYE for us, perhaps certain members of your band didn't want to gig on NYE? That's happened to me in the past........
 4. We're getting £600 from a small pub and we are a 3 piece.... I reckon £200/band member is reasonable to expect for NYE.
 5.
OMG... nope, I'll not even bother If he refused to rejoin Queen as the tribute act, then that is the best thing he ever did. I can't believe Rogers did it.. what a comedown, IMV is this what you are talking about..?
Nope, just in general really. I don't think he's a nob... that's just a nod to the 'War and Peace' effort the Macca thread is becoming! I think he is a solid, extremely capable bassist who is comparable in style to Macca i.e. he is melodic and plays to the songs needs rather than his own. He also wrote one of the most recognisable basslines ever in 'Another One Bites The Dust'. He seems a fairly ordinary chap and pretty decent along with it, plus he once played a Buzzard (even though it was a Warwick!) I think he kept his dignity by not rejoining what was obviously not Queen and going out on the road with them. John gets a wacky, Macca thumbs aloft from me!
 6. Is he influenced by Macca or no? Is he a nob or a bass god? Successful songwriter - do you like his stuff? Did he do the right thing not rejoining the ashes of Queen? You decide!
 7.
My Kingbass Artist "Moo Wood" Reason, 1/ One of Sir Rob Greens finest 2/ Just look at it!! ;-)
Seen this lotsa times and that wood still is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. My current basses - Status B1 and B2. Class, quality, beauty. Sounds and plays like nothing else I have ever picked up... notch another 2 to Mr. Green! See up and left a bit for the B1....
 8.
I'm going to be controversial here......I actually agree with this. Like I said,I quite like McCartney but I'm not a massive fan. However I don't get Entwistle at all. I don't like his playing or his tone.
Perfectly reasonable to say that - I hope you aren't agreeing with the more colourfully put point in the post though! That was totally uncalled for and was the main reason for my rather defensive post about John. It's fine not to like something, but to be awful and personal about someone none of us know and to quote opinion as fact - well, it's a bit sad really and inflammatory to say the least.
 9.
I never understood John Entwhistle. I sounded fairly good when all I had to spend on an amp was a hundred quid. Meanwhile he had practically unlimited funds and a rig half the size of Wembley and still routinely sounded like sh*t. But he was good, right? He also played sh*t-looking basses, so he could look like sh*t while he sounded like sh*t. I know he's dead and all but seriously he's one of the shittest-sounding and shittest-looking bassists ever. Meanwhile McCartney managed to sound good on every record I've ever heard him on, and he wrote all the Beatles' best songs. Making him f***ing loads better than John Entwhistle at basically everything except being a pretentious pointy-guitared twat.
Allow me to counter with - btw there is no 'h' in Entwistle, if you're going to drub someone at least spell their name right! I don't understand your opinion but you're entitled to it and while it is absolutely OK to not like his style and tone it is not cool to call someone (living or dead) , how did you delicately put it, a 'pretentious twat' for absolutely no reason at all. John was neither for your information. If you don't think Entwistle sounded good on 'Who's Next'; 'Quadrophenia' and 'The Who by Numbers' to name but three - then I don't know what to say! McCartney's bass playing was pretty uninteresting before 'Revolver', 'Rain' etc; John started off with 'My Generation' and kept moving forward - helping to advance string and amplification/effects technology along the way. To say he sounded 'sh*t' is, IMO, slightly misinformed as is 'sh*t looking'. His Alembic's, Gibson's, Fenderbirds, Status' are, IMO, some of the greatest looking instruments ever picked up; but what has image to do with talent anyways? If it means that much to you, take a look at your Avatar (just a joke!!!) As for his live tone from '99 to '02, I know it isn't to everyones taste but he was going deaf at a tremendous rate and that tone helped him hear what he was doing. He wanted to keep playing by whatever means possible and that was it. Can't argue with you on the songwriting front though! Re: Macca - he is a solid, intelligent bass player who does what the song requires in a melodic and often interesting way and he wrote some of the greatest songs ever in many peoples opinions. The man has melody seeping out of his pores and is a legend. Someone mentioned John would agree that Macca was a good bassist - he did but he was also annoyed that Paul kept winning 'Best Bass Player' in all the polls way back when!
 10. Hi. Below is a link to an audio clip of my band 'One Eyed Pete' playing '5.15' by The Who. I play an interpretation of John's bass solo from the RAH during the clip.... Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsqRMGaOQQA
 11. Yep..... the paintwork looks pristine! Buy it quick before it goes......
 12. To quote the Grange Hill mob... 'Just say NO!' No one has the right to tell you that your gear has to be used by other people. I'd rather lose a gig than do that.... it costs too much and there are lots of people who don't respect their own gear, let alone anyone elses.

 14.
"An intimate portrait of the legendary bass guitarist for The Who. This documentary includes the last footage ever recorded with John Entwistle, and features interviews with Pete Townshend, as well as other major figures in rock history" No idea if it's any good but worth sticking on the Sky+ to see what it's like Repeated at 4:00 AM on Tuesday 8th - maybe again later in the week. It's in HD at both times as well
It's an excellent film..... you won't regret recording it!
 15.
I missed the program - who were the others shortlisted?
We're bass players... we don't warrant a shortlist! It was just taken from the online voting. I thought the programs leading up to the final one were pretty good, but last night was awful - apart from Radcliffe and Copeland; and that had to be the least sounding tribute act to LZ I've ever heard! And what the hell was the 'Beat Box Boy' all about!?! Could not see the point of the program at all, especially a 2 hour program to announce 4 results...... I can't wait for J.R to retire/go off air. Flea is an OK choice - he is very talented with an incredible stage presence, so no real complaints there.

 18.
Study music not musicians. Learning a load of other players party pieces, however great the original;, will bring you very little return in the long run. THe problem with finding your true path is in recognising that you are already on it.
All that is true to a certain degree... but if you are in a tribute act and the band you cover is literally part of your DNA (not just a gig) and playing their style brings yourself and others enormous pride and satisfaction - then that is just as important is it not?
 19. Pretty obvious really (!) but I have spent a lot of time and effort studying John Entwistle, nigh on 20 years actually ( the first five years or so was Bruce Foxton). Listening over and over again till I 'hear' what he is doing and then put it into practice. Even though I know the lines and songs backward, occasionally he'll do something I missed the first hundred listens and I think 'How the hell did he do that?' - then I practice till I can do it. When I'm playing Who stuff with my band or the WHO2 stuff on YT, I play John's lines - on other stuff, his style always informs my playing - takes me up some interesting avenues!
 20.
Very nice basses, Gareth. I'm sure I've seen your new B2 somewhere before. Did the previous owner feature it on Statii or something? I think I made some comments on your B1 a while ago when you first got it - Needless to say, you have a piece of history there. I have a feeling it's the bass you'll never sell Congrats on a stunning pair!
Thanks Rich.... it is very similar to Ollie's old B2, which is featured on Statii; his bass gave me bad GAS for over two years. So very happy to have found (as far as I know) the only other one like it.
