1. I like the design.... but I wouldn't part with thousands of quid for it. Plus as has been said previously the Status Buzzard's hands down knock the Warwick Buzzard's outta the ballpark (have played both too), I agree with Wolverine on that one. Adam did have a Warwick Buzzard that he tried out in rehearsals and he obviously liked it, but that of course raised a problem.... he is the bassist in one of the biggest bands in the world so does he want to be known as playing an 'Entwistle bass'? The answer was 'No' by the look of it, so he musta had Warwick rustle up his own version but with a 'nod' to John. Interesting that his personal bass has the double P pup configuration favoured by Entwistle on his Warwick Buzzards but the version for sale just has one set of P pups.... As to whether he can play? I think he does a good job for the band he is in - can't be a lot of room for expression with the bloody Edge noodling about with all his effects!
2. Is the body made of Alder-an?
3.
seems like that should be made by Gretsch for some reason... I´d go with a Darth Vigier Or a nice Gibson R2D2 Artist... Or a Musicman Light-Sabre sorry, those were the best I could come up with in a rush!
2 more than I could think of!!! The only one I could get was a Status R2 B2!
4. Such a shame... young guy too and a great player. RIP.
5.
I'm quite a philosophical person I suppose and I tend to take deaths like this in the same way. The big names like Elvis, Lennon even Michael Jackson although all sad meant very little to me personally. But I suppose I've been more affected by people whose music has made a difference to me. Certainly Joe Strummer was a shock because I had never seen him live - and always intended to of course. As someone else said, I am in the happy position of most of my musical idols still being with us. At least Joe got a railway loco named after him
One of my regrets? Joe supported The Who at Manchester on their 2000 tour... where did I spend his set? At the bloody bar with him playing 'Rock the Casbah' in the background! Damn!
6. Welcome Sue!
7.
im very well thanks! yup, that sure is a bargain...my DREAM bass...truely is...ive still got the pick of me and the bass next to JE's Rig!
Well I'll have to pay you a visit with John's Buzzard - that WILL blow your mind! You still got the B2? Happy with it?
8. Lennon, Mercury, Entwistle, Cobain, Moon. All emotional times... if these guys don't mean anything to you personally then the response you quote is understandable; but if they mean the world to you - then it's deeply emotional.... for me anyways...... A lot of the time with this type of thing it's the shock of the event I think - especially Lennon and Cobain and even Entwistle to some extent, but the violence of John and Kurt's deaths make them more shocking I think. I don't know if being a musician makes us more emotional - I guess some can just emote more than others whatever walk of life you're in? The older I get the more I'm happy to 'let go'...
9.
heya Gareth! bloody wish id got the spare cash at the mo! shes a beauty!
Eh up James! How are ya? This is the lowest I'm going now tbh - I'd rather keep her! Actually the starting bid on Ebay is £2650, so I would take that..... we'll have to wait and see if anyone wants a bargain!!!!
10. Bump for the lowest price you'll ever get a bass like this for!!!!!!
11. ....like a Princess....
12. I haven't personally BUT in our band we all take turns to write the setlist (democracy in action folks!), so sometimes for giggles I put 'All Day And All Of The Night'; 'American Idiot' and 'I Hate To Say I Told You So' all after each other. It is mildly amusing watching our guitarist mentally reassuring himself of the opening riffs before he starts playing! There is something about those three on the bounce that causes a 'riff tongue twister' type situation...... And remember... 'you were probably playing the right notes... just not necessarily in the right order'!
13. That quote is taken from the last interview John did. It was with Andy Peebles for the BBC on Dec 6th 1980; it is available to buy and I'd urge everyone to listen to it if they can. Lennon is so full of life, enthusiasm for the future and general good humour it's heartbreaking to listen to.... damn Chapman to the bowels of hell.
14.
My rehearsal room is basically a brick box with pretty high brick ceilings, so the sound tends to bounce around a lot, making everything sound quite undefined and a lot louder than it actually is. We get a lot of unpleasant high midrange, but the floor is wooden boards with a bit of thin carpet so we lose a lot of the bass end punch and warmth to unsympathetic vibrations. There are a couple of foam mats nailed to the walls and so on but apart from that pretty much no acoustic treatment at all. Does anyone have any ideas for what would be the best way to remedy this, and ideally for not much money? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The old tried and trusted - egg boxes and old carpet!!!!
15. Tony Levin did play on Double Fantasy..... to quote Lennon '...and Tony Levin, great bass player... I never even knew he existed!'
16. Done about 40 this year. We did nearly 60 last year so I said we needed to ease off a bit!!! I also work full time and 1 weekend in 4 work nights....
17. Hi. We are a three piece and like yourself have GREAT gigs and bad ones where about 10 people turn up. There is nothing you can do about this, it is just the way it works.... even with lots of advertising it happens. Thing to do is to treat it as a paid rehearsal, that's what we do. We just have a laugh and play our favourite tunes. Nowt to get self concious about - just play the same whatever the gig because at least the owner will see you have still tried and put on the best performance possible (and you never know who is watching) and think 'good band-just a bad night' as opposed to 'bad band-bad night all round'!
18. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=70359&hl= This has just gone up for sale!
19. I don't mind our guitarist playing loud 'cos I love to play loud as well and he can't outdo me with my rig. However, in practice he plugs his Strat into his Marshall, cranks it up and gets a BEAUTIFUL sound; yet at gigs (we play small pubs) he mic's up (YES!) his Marshall and goes through the PA, thereby restricting his backline level and not getting a good tone. He then turns up gradually and of course the level through the PA gets louder too and drowns out the vocal. We never had any input into the mic'in up thing, he just turned up with it at a gig.... Of course, it is pointless discussing it 'cos he is a guitarist and don't they know best?! The disappointing thing is the loss of this beautiful tone he has in practice.....
20.
I think the ad is fine here, although your responses may be somewhat limited as I don't think vocalists frequent this forum as much as they would Gumtree, Starnow etc. Best of luck though, it'd be my ideal bass job too
Thanks Danny.... I am hoping one of our fellow Basschatters knows someone who might fit the bill.
21. Myself, Andy Hughes and Dan Di Carlo are putting together a 'live' Who Tribute act. The band will focus not on any one era of their career, but take in some of their greatest performances and put it into one complete set. So 'Pete, John and Keith' are looking for 'Roger'. We have rehearsed already and sound great and are looking to gig from the middle of next year onward. Location for rehearsal at the moment is Peterborough 'cos that is sorta central to us three, but don't let geography put you off! If you fancy a crack and have enthusiasm for a project like ours or know anybody who fits the bill... drop us a PM on here... Thanks.
22. Hey Jim. Welcome to the forum and if I may I'd like to echo what others have said.... don't let the bastards grind you down, stay positive and ignore any misguided attempts at humour. My wife has mild dylexsia and it is not funny at all. All the best and I look forward to reading your posts. Gareth.
23.
No worries Gareth, hope you enjoy it! Here's mine btw, a tenner more expensive but in sunburst (which i prefer) with the scratchplate removed as i hate the look of white scratchplates! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=45+jazz
The scratchplate removal is a good idea.... I can see a big Mod insignia going there! Thing is, it will be a good bass for this or any other gig and it's so cheap you can handle some drunken reveller falling into it.......
24. I've had that! Thanks for the link Lemmy.... cheap bass to play at very close quarters for a bunch of pissed up people on Boxing Day acquired!
