1. Price drop!!!! now £120, offered it for that price so i thought it was only polite to spread the offer.
2. I this this may be the only burl top i've seen that hasn't been book matched. It looks really really lovely, the anti symmetry thing is quite beautiful, i can't see why everyone book matches the tops on everything. damn i want to build another guitar.
Well, maybe my self-made buckeyed burl Pro WAL (only the 1979 fretless neck is original) could also tempt and inspire you to build a bass. We tried to copy the body shape of the MKI I owned at that time and realized it with the help of my wife, who's a joiner by profession and luthier Rüdiger Ziesemann of Bassline Basses Germany: tc Oliver
3. Ok it's now for sale, i've managed to buy (pending etc) a lovely new little cab so this beast has to go. It's as described above, and lifting it out of it's current hiding place i remembered how much i've enjoyed playing through it. I also realised again why it has to be sold as it took me ages to lift it out. So here's some pictures, taken at the top of the stairs as that was the best light i could find in our small flat. I'm asking for £140 as i'm trying to get together funds for the new one but i don't think i can really ask for any more in this condition. But if you're a man like myself who doesn't really care for cosmetics and clean edges, this is a good deal for a reliable 314 square inches of speaker. loads of punch and bottom end. It sounded very fat when only pulling 120w from my little mark. Oh yeh and important stuff it's 8ohm, rates at 600w, and has the serial 03681699, which someone may be able to decode It's pick up only from peckham south london. no post, i've no car and it's too heavy to carry to the post office.
4. haha thought as much, but if you never ask...... i'm very tempted by this, good price, local(ish), etc. will let you know when i'm back in london and i've checked the finances.
5. i'm guessing you wouldn't fancy a trade for something heavier? beaten up ashdown ABM 410? if not i'll attempt to sell it, looking for a downsize at the moment.
6. Yeh UCL union isn't too bad a venue, i used to really like but now the band has collectively agreed to never play there again. Basicly the sounds rubbish, can't handle any volume. also my most recent gripe is that the uni society that ran all the nights was ran by a bunch of complete idiots (i had a tendancy to get really pissed at gigs and tell them what i thought of them to their faces), so if you're going to ucl join the live music society and sort it all out. i can't be arsed any more, postgrad now, i don't "do" societies . Sorry the derail, hope you get a new bassist, really shouldn't have mumbled about being interested - not possibl i'm afraid, unless you decide to rehearse in peckham. would be good to gig with you again though, when i finally sort out setting up a night i'll be in touch.
7. oh so tempted but i think it may be a silly idea. already in another band and have child on the way so extra commitments are a bit stupid really. really liek your sound though, gigged with you about 6 months ago at UCL union - awful venue. also my mates band rehearse at the IAF, they even named themselves after it, they're called 'The Arts Factory'. could be very tempted to come jam with you sometime though, you rehearsing much at the moment?
8. i've now gone and got a set of rotosound flats, perfect length and sound good enough at the moment - though thats only acousticly. they seemed to be the easiest to get hold of and had relable enough reviews, will look out for other makes ofr the next set, i've always liked labellas.
9. damn, i though i was being original with my EB0 modding, i've put flats on too - really sounds lovely. The feedback could possible be solved with shielding - all of it even the pickup cavity.
10. ah nuts, taken pictures but cannot find any way to get then onto the computer. hopefully soon.
11. i was going to start a similar thread with my EB0 project hough mines a littel more drastic, i think may have put similar tuners to you on the head, though i've put a schaller 3D bridge rather than retro fitting with a hipshot. haven't found myself a model one yet, though have got a basslines MM pickup to put in at the bridge. also i'm a lefty s i'll be re positioning all the controlls to underneath the scratch plate - so that'll be 2 volume 1 tone two coil tapping switches and a pickup selector - bit of a squeeze. also i'll need to shave off the corner where my arm now rests - it'll add to the mojo. i've already statrted all this, had a few problems with the nut, i'll be starting again. also serious neck dive issues, it really doesn't like being upsidedown, now have a 3 poitn strap contraption. mine if we become build diary partners or shall i start my own???
12. yes for one more once, that album blew me away. can't think of many better examples, though anything off of complete birth of the cool is brilliant - boplicity is such a beautiful piece of music. i know its not exactly a big band - a thirteen piece i think. also some of maynard fergusons stuff ventures into big band territory - his version of birdland is worth listening to. another yes for seeing it live - as with all music. have had many a night of joy at various swing dancing clubs.
13. oooo that top is pretty, want to see it with the bridge and neck on - more pictures!!!!
14. hahahaha, i fell for that and it's very annoying as i've done so before. bit a newbie around here, but my "other forum" did a similar trick last year by putting up specialized adverts all over the place (it was a cycling forum) but in that case the thread got well into the 10th page before anyone worked it out. everyone who worked guessed should have kept it to themselves and wound everyone else up, the fun that could have been had, well there's always next year.......
15. i built myself a passive 5 string about 5 years ago and it's still ym only bass thoug i have modded it countless times, a few things i learnt in the build 1 pickups, if you're going passive you need something powerfull, i have a basslines mm5 in mine and it packs a lot of power, it did cost as much as everything else put together but its worth it 2 good quality wood, unless you're an incredible craftsman your first home built bass isn't going to be very well made compared to a professionally built one so compensate by getting nice wood, and by nice i mean not too heavy but with loads of sustain - do some research. 3 the B string, it really hard to get it tight, even with a long scale and heavy strings mine isn't as tight as i'd like it, there are many factors when getting a tight B string so try to get all of them and you should be ok. 4 pots don't change your sound, the capacitor on the tone knob will, but it's mainly your wood and pickup choice that will affect it EDIT: just realised that you're getting it built, forget the home made stuff
16.
Nothing can compete with spontaneous cricket. A couple of years ago I organised a game in a street in Bulgaria, planks for bats, bins for stumps and a ball made out of wine corks wrapped in duck tape. I recall that it ended in a draw.
when in spain on a rugby tour, one morning when incredibly hungover - probably still pissed - we played a game of imaginary cricket whilst waiting for a bus. There were no bats, wickets or ball but we didn't let that stop us. I recall several close run outs, many impressive diving catches, several impressive centuries (of about 6 balls - imaginary centuries) and the most confused faces (on the locals that is, they have a clue what we were doing). I do believe the game ended in draw as well.
17. awesome, cheers guys tayste - your instructions make me feel like i'm buying drugs, they'd better be good.
18. interesting, where can i find overwater strings?
19. googling for them now, quite a few results. where's everyones favourite place for buying strings?
20. yeh thats what i was thinking but i'm not a big fan of winding any other part of the string other than the windings. the E string always looks a bit annoyed that you've wrapped up the thick part of it.
21. Need to put some flat wounds on an EB0, its a 30 inch scale i think. Does anyone know where i can find them? Searched everywhere. Could i just used normal scale ones and have most the string wrapped around the machinehead (i really hate doing that)? Cheers Harry
22.
D code, alain caron, without the bass solo and some skunk funk by the brecker brothers. Wanted to do these for ages and never had the time until now. Bow..
Some skunk funk, damn what a tune. I play this whenever theres a party and we're having a youtube DJ session and it turns funky, usually there's no reply. So can you pull it off? i've never tried, learn't sneaking up behind you once, but this monster is another level.
23. I think its about time i downsized my rig to make it a little more portable and public transport friendly (this hasn't been gigged in about 4 months), also i've got a baby on the way and any space saved will be a bonus. Basically the item i'm trading is an oldish ashdown ABM 410 in a little tatty condition, it's been gigged hard, by a fair few owners. It's all working correctly and sounds great though. I'm currently using it with my Mark Bass LM250 which really lets it sing, and this cab probably sounds the best out of all the cabs i've used it through. The only problem is i now live in south london and the rest of the band (and more importantly their cars) live in north london, so for gigs i'm now stuck with borrowing other bands cabs or DIing which is annoying when i have this wonderful sounding beast at home. What i would like is something is a small cab, or two, that i can carry on the bus and tube but which can handle a fair few watts of power. Say 2 1x10's or a light 2x10. I tried a aguilar 1x12 back when i got my LM and it really struggled with anything loud and low so i think 2 speakers is a given. I don't really want to sell it as that would leave me ampless but if there's someone desperate for a cab that can come to peckham to pick it up i would consider it for the right price (i don't want too much but enough to compensate being left without an amp), which makes me remember, i have no car so if anyone wants this they'll have to come and pick it up. I'll try to get some pictures of it today. EDIT, it's now definitely got to go, so for sale.
24. i'll be good with the routing, have put a few in before and know the pains of a small slip with a router, though once made a nice pick holder. anyone have any advice on the best supplier for bridges and tuners?
