  1. Ali Friend: Red Snapper & Clayhill Nick Blacka : Gogo Penguin
  2. Double bass: Ned's Atomic Dustbin (as already mentioned) Girls Against Boys Triple Bass: Rothko Dunno if quad bass exists.
  3. I don't think I could play a solo that bad even if I tried. The law of averages would dictate that at least one note in 12 would be right
  4. He also seems to be plugged into a guitar amp & cab. And his thumb is embedded in the neck/fingerboard. If this is typical of Glarry's advertising budget, it doesn't bode well for the quality of the product.
  5. That looks like a totally random collection of odd strings. Spirocores are a good bet if you're happy to pay £150. If you want something cheaper, D'addario Preludes are under £100.
  6. I have an early 70s Musima as my gigging bass and its built like a bricks***house. 60+ gigs a year for the last 10 years, in and out of the back of cars, vans, pickups and on one occasion a tractor, and never missed a beat. Mine also has a neck break in the same place. It's been professionally repaired and not moved a mm in all the time I've owned it. These are great basses for folk, blues, jazz and rockabilly. They amplify really well and can take some serious abuse. At £700 I would buy this out of sheer principle, but I already have 3 double basses and couldn't physically fit a fourth in my house.
  7. Yep -We've had them at a couple of our festivals and I've done monitors for them a few times. Very popular with the cider-punk crowd.
  8. I've been enjoying The Blunders recently. https://youtu.be/OP4Q_dJVrM8
  9. Double bass strings don't really go 'dead', but the strings might be orchestral strings which could give a dull pizz tone. Could be the soundpost needs adjusting or it could just be a rubbish bass. Antoni basses aren't at the low end of the Chinese mass produced basses, so it's probably worth trying new strings and then adjusting the bridge and/or soundpost. Can you take a photo of the silks on the string afterlength? If we can ID the strings then it will inform us whether different strings will make a difference. Be aware that you will need to spend money.... Double bass strings aren't cheap and while there is a healthy used string market, 1/2 size scale strings aren't common so you'll probably have to buy new. You can do some bridge adjustments yourself, but soundpost work needs a luthier and about £60. Don't get started on pickups, thats a whole new rabbit hole.
  10. Looks like the one on the left in this picture. This has P-J pickups though, the OP photo looks like it might have soapbars or a pickup ring/bezel
  11. You can't go wrong with Discover Double bass - lots of beginner focussed stuff from getting your stance and left/right hand technique sorted, through to walkng bass parts, scales etc.
  12. I bet some of them don't even have an opinion on flats vs rounds.
  13. Out of all of the little cabs at the SW bass bash, this one was by far the best sounding & most capable for double bass.
  14. I think there's plenty of female bassists out there, but maybe they're just not interested in online discussion forums?
  15. Yeah DB - gurt big bit of feedback and then nuthin' Cheers, @stevie's new cabs sounded really good for double bass.
  16. Cheers @scrumpymike and family for putting on an excellent 'do' as always. Loved @yorks5stringerAcinonyx and @stevie's new bass cabs. There was also hardly any slap bass heard all day. Which was nice. Dave
  17. No worries, DB will be coming. Have to admit I've been keeping an eye on your cab build thread, but have resisted so far due to not enough time and too many cabs.
  18. It's a confirmed non-gig weekend and Mrs Rev has given approval, so I'm there. If anyone is interested in having a go on double bass, I'll bring one, otherwise it will be the Italia Rimini and the Chowny SWB fretless (which is also for sale...), plus my MAS45 cab/Techamp Puma/Fishman pre gig setup. For the raffle I have a Tech21 BassCompactor compressor. Dave
  19. There's the Aria SB-1000JT - not an official signature bass but essentially the same bass he used back in the day.
  20. I'd recommed at least one face to face lesson to make sure you have the correct stance and left hane position/shape -it will save from a lot of pain (literally) in the future.
  21. Or was it Psycho Delia Smith? I remember going to see them in a pub in Fishponds and being disappointed that they weren't a psychedelic rock band.
  22. Ok. Ear training and muscle memory. You listen and learn where the notes are. Or you can paint little dots on the side if the fingerboard. That better?
