1.
Now if I only had a bit more than £25.50 in my gear fund.......have a bump, at least. BB
If only indeed - thanks for the comment Rhino.
 2.
Hi, stumbled on the site yesterday and so far very impressed so thought I would register and get chatting to my fellow bass players. I play in a soul/funk band called soul7 ( www.soul7.co.uk ) but have previously done classic rock and sixties. We are out gigging between two and four times a month but I want more so I am on the lookout to join/form another band to do another two to four gigs a month. I play a Yamaha TRB which just seems such a good all rounder that I have never really needed to upgrade although I also have a Yamaha 5 string which sits at gigs just waiting for a flat battery/string break on the TRB but has yet to be played live. I play through a Behringer rig which after an initial hiccup has served me very well and considering the price was a cracking bargain but i must admit that my next move will be to something much lighter ( the back just ain't what it was !! ) I am 48 years old and like many others I came back to playing about 10 years ago after a 20 year break !! I get really annoyed if I think how good i could be now if I had kept playing after leaving school but sport took over my life. The upside of this is that I am so excited about playing and gigging as it still seems new to me and each gig is a big adventure. Probably boring you now but looking forward to chatting more and perhaps meeting some local players. Let me know when and where you are gigging and I will try to come along. Tony
Hi Tony, Another tyke joins the madding crowd ! Perhaps we should form a "splinter group " - we could play " I Put A Spell On You" Enough . Rhino.
 3.
oh deary me, don't see WW up for sale very often (if at all!), sorry that it's had to come to this for you. are you getting something nice to replace?
Assuming the WW sells - a PJB M300 head to drive my two PJB 4B cabinets. Cheers, Rhino
 4. Due to HM Revenue & Customs method of operating, I apparently have to pay them even more of my hard earned money. It is with great regret that I inform your good selves of the availability of the above ]Bag End cabinet for a veritable give away price of £300.00, and a nominal charge of £25.00 in respect of delivery costs (fuel) within a 200 mile radius of Leeds/Bradford. The cabinet, 18.5" high, 18.5" wide and 15.5" deep, weighing 44lbs, houses an 8ohm 15" Bag End (Eminence) loudspeaker which will handle 200 watts / 400 peak in a frequency range of 50hz - 4khz at 103 db.spl., via a banana socket or 1/4" jack. It is a fine cabinet and therefore deserves a good home. However, the highlight of the evening is the availability of my Walter Woods M1-100-8 amplifier which comes complete with a custom made flight case, operating instructions, amp to cabinet cables, (jack to speakon custom made by Pete Cornish) and a 20 foot long MT Ripcord cable, right angled jack to straight jack. The amp, removed from the flight case, is 3.5" high, 12.5" wide and 7.5" deep, weighing approx 3-4 lbs The amp is conservatively rated at 100 watts into 8ohms and 200 watts into 4ohms. It is a great amplifier and should be one of the wonders of the world(IMHO) and is priced conservatively at £900.00 with a nominal charge of £25.00 in respect of delivery costs (fuel) within a 200 mile radius of Leeds/Bradford. Don't all rush at once. Rhino.
 5. I no longer need the bag as I now have a semi flight case available. It has a huge front pocket which will hold a cable(s), strings, sandwiches etc., etc,., and a small pocket for tuners, 'phones, etc., It is extremely well made with strong zips, fasteners and straps and is well padded. New price approaching £200 - my price £85.00 plus postage if necessary. Could deliver within 100 mile radius of Leeds or Bradford for nominal contribution to fuel costs, i.e. £25. 6.
She is actually a year older than you - but I don't know what age she claimed to be way back then. Steve
Hi, Yes, a very big family, I have two younger brothers, Mick and Barry, two younger sisters Ann and Carol, late parents Bob and Irene, cousins Kevin , George and Billy, there's loads of us. Dunwells Cafe - "Dunny's" - Bel Ami juke box, milky coffee, proper Coke, real motorbikes, Tony Hargreaves. Should we continue this trip down memory lane via personal e-mails ? Brian [email protected]
 7.
I will ask my wife if she remembers any of this. She was Noeline Ashley, and the others were Keith, Julian, Richard, Peter, Clifford, Paul and Vivien, all around yours and Noeline's age. Let you know Steve
I'm sure that I knew a Noeline Ashley - although I think she maybe 3 years younger than me ? Interesting, innit ! Brian.
 8.
Oh God - now the top is off the can - my wife lived in Granville Mount, and we still have family in Pool Road. She went to school at Prince Henry's and and spent her youth in all those places you did. She also had several cousins in Otley, all Ashleys. Let me know if you knew any of these. I feel a remeniscence (spelling??) over a pint coming on. Steve
Hi, I used to deliver newspapers on both Granville Mount and Pool Road. I know the name Ashley but I can't think of Christian names. I went to Otley Secondary School, leaving in 1965 - I was in three local bands, namely Peter & The Wolves from 14 to 16 years old, Sons of Sin from 16 to 18 years old, and Ellisons Hogline from 18 to 20 years old. I was pro from 18 until I was 24 when I came back to Otley and eventually married at the age of 25. My name is Brian Duffissey. Ring any bells ? Brian.
 9.
As far as I know Newton House is still there, but the Crystal Bowl has been a bingo hall for about 20 years I think. My wife is from Otley, our kind of age, so she will remember all the old haunts of your youth. (Should I really be opening this can of worms??) Steve
Well, what a surprise, I'm from Otley also. (Garnett Street, to be precise) I now live in Menston, nr Ilkley, and have done for the last 28 years. "Old haunts" - Weston Lane Youth Club Otley, Stoney Lea Hotel Ilkley,Craiglands Hotel Ilkley, Troutbeck Hotel Ilkley, Winter Gardens and Kings Hall, Ilkley, Pool Village Hall, Bramhope Youth Club, None Go Byes Farm Cookridge, Mechanics Institute Otley, Queens Hall Burley in Wharfedale. Crystal Bowl Castleford, Hernandos Coffee Bar Leeds, Jubilee Hall Chapeltown Leeds, etc., etc., On a more business like front, I have just taken delivery of two PJB 4B cabinets and they are every bit as good as described. A more detailed review will follow. Cheers, Rhino.
 10.
Used to be the called the roundhouse, next to the roundabout - is that the right one?? Wow - digging up the past now
Yes, that's it , is it still in existence? How about the Crystal Bowl, Castleford ? "The youth of today, eh, the' don't know the' born". Rhino
 11.
Hi everybody Just found the site and thought i'd say hello i've been playing for around 20 years on and off in a variety of bands, mostly rock based but have also played upright slap bass in a couple of rockabilly/psychobilly bands. The gear i'm using at the moment is an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro,a couple of Ampeg 4x10 cabs, and 2 Musicman stingrays, although i have recently been trying a Warwick Corvette Double Buck for a new project i'm involved with. Cheers for now GR
Hi Grinnreaper, I'm from the Ilkley area, (baht hat etc., etc.,) I've played wakefield a few times in the 60's and 70's - Newton House ? Good to see another Tyke maintaining the standard. Cheers, Rhino.
 12.
I think you mean Lewis Steinberg. He and Al Jackson left the Willie Mitchell band in 1962 and formed the MG's with Booket T and Steve Cropper. It is Lewis playing on Green Onions.
Hi, You're right - must keep taking the pills ! Rhino.
 13. Hi, After having scrolled through the various forums, it appears that you have solved your problems and are keeping the PJB stack. I'll withdraw my offer accordingly. Cheers, Rhino.
 14. Hi, Please let me know as quickly as possible when you intend to make a decision as I have other options open to me. Cheers, Rhino.
 15. Hi, Would it help matters if I included both cabinets in my offer ? Regards, Rhino
 16. Hi, It's a M100-8 dual channel - output 100watts @ 8ohm and 200 watts @4 ohm. I don't know the year of manufacturer Pictures attached (I hope) - Rhino.
 17. How about a straight exchange for my Walter Woods M100 8 amp., ( incl padded bag), and Markbass 1 x 12" OR Mark Bass 1 x 15" cabinet complete with Roqsolid custom cover ? Regards, Rhino.
 18. I 've bought a "pocket rock it" from Audiotoyz for the princely sum of £34. It is amazingly good value for money and ideal for wandering about the house/back stage/wherever, with nobody knowing exactly what you are playing - keeping the dream alive (sort of). Rhino.
 19. Favourite rhythm section(s) Rocco Prestia & David Garibaldi: Jerry Jemmott & Earl Palmer: Chuck Rainey & Bernard Purdie: Gordon Edwards & Steve Gadd: James Jameson & Benny Benjamin: Carl Radle & Jim Gordon / Jim Keltner: Bootsy Collins & Clyde Stubblefield / Jabbo Marks: I could go on............ Rhino
 20. Try Roqsolid covers -I have two for my Markbass Traveler 1 x 12 and Traveler 1 x 15 cabs. They are excellent - hard wearing, and providing you give the correct measurements, fit perfectly. . Rhino.
 21. Going back to the late '60's, my band supported, in no particular order: Joe Cocker & Grease Band - Chris Stainton (fretless precision) Ten Years After - Leo Lyons (1961 Jazz) Jon Hiseman's Colosseum - Tony Reeves (EB2/Rivoli) Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac - John McVie (Precision) Keef Hartley Band - Gary Thain (Jazz) Procol Harum - Alan Cartwright Rhino.
 22. A Mark bass 2 x10" combo should suit you - I've had one and they have plenty of volume and the EQ is excellent plus they are light in weight and not gigantic in size. £1000 should easily cover the cost. Rhino.
 23. I swopped a Fender Jazz (1961) for a Gibson EB2 in 1969 and sold a WAL Pro 1E in 1995 (£350 if you're interested) Rhino
 24.
well to answer the obvious!! male and of four string long neck variety!! anyhoo...thought I would ask this as it would seem there is a huge amount of missing info in relation to us all as players... I am a standard no frills solid rock bass player in the mould of Cliff Williams and Phil Lynott. I occasionally tap (billy sheehan) but not practiced enough to say I'm any good at it! same with slap although I do incorporate basic slap techniques into some of the bands original material. I believe that the players tone, technique and ability is all in the hands and if you are a decent player should be able to get a decent tone sound out of any sort of equipment even the shittest stuff! Over the twenty plus years of playing - nearly thrity actually! - I have always made a pigs ear of things when I have to think about it or attempt to be technical, sooo tend to be simple but effective - good grief thats me simple and effective..... andy
I'm a 4 string, soul/funk/blues/r'n'b/country player in the mold of Jamerson/jemmot/rainey/dunn/prestia with shades of others too numerous to mention. Rhino
 25.
Hello all, Just a wee poll for us BCers to get an idea of the spread of basses that we all use! Apologies if I've left any major manufacturers out...hopefully I've covered most of them Cheers, Danny
Steinberger Spirit XT 4 string (Aerodyne Jazz as back up) Rhino.
