2.
Came across some old jamming recordings I made with a friend and my brother a long while back and then put onto soundclick a little less long back just now, was quite interesting listening to them. I think we'd played for a few years before this but not really recorded anything or jammed together much yet. Apart from questionable ability at the instruments (spot the fill where I'm just guessing notes and hoping they work ) and terrible recording quality I think they don't sound too terrible. These are just 2 parts out of a much longer recording, but thats been lost by now. Anyway heres the link http://www.soundclick.com/oscarsouth. Any of you got any really old recordings kicking about?
I have four tracks by the soul band I was in , aged 18, recorded in 1968 at Matt Matthias's (Matamp) studio in Huddersfield . Rhino.
 3. I met Dr Dave and his wonderful Shuker bass at the bash and found him to have a great sense of humour. (almost a Yorkshireman). I tried his bass through my PJB Suitcase and 4b cabinet - superb, although I still prefer my Aerodyne Jazz. A good guy to know, helpful and happy. (aren't we all ?) Rhino.

 6.
Hi guys and gals, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with shipping basses overseas? The reason i ask is that i have a few basses up for grabs and i've had some interest from a few guys in the EU...but i'm a bit sceptical about doing a transaction outside the UK. Has anyone got any thoughts about it? Many thanks Jamie
I usaed MBE (Mail Boxes Europe) to ship a Wal to Germany for £110 - they'll collect it and pack it for you. Very good service. Rhino.
 7.
I was practicing away tonight at neighbour friendly volume and happened to be tapping my foot on my bass lead and it was giving this definite crunching sound in my amp, its a planet waves lead. Whats the best money can buy?
I use a cable made up by Laurence at Overwater in Carlisle - Neutrik plugs and Van Damme cable - excellent. Try Pete Cornish - his cables are good, both guitar and amp to cab. I also have an MIT Bass Ripcord Cable - expensive but worth it Rhino.
 8.
I heard one at a shop in Bristol the other day, and was quite impressed that such a small unit could give out such a big sound. However, it was not playing that loudly, so i dont know what its like at full chat! Anyone got one or use one, I'd be interested to hear. Cheers Matt
I have a Suitcase and 4b cabinet - expensive, but worth it. It produces a very clean sound and you can certainly hear your mistakes. I find it loud enough playing with two keyboards, guitar and drums - if you can afford it, buy it. Rhino.
 9. I have decided to scale down my not so extensive collection of amps and cabs etc., and keep my PJB Suitcase combo and 4B cabinet on the grounds of portability and quality. (I did buy a Mini Brute I from Clarky but my son has "borrowed" it.) However, here is "big brother " in the Polytone Mini Brute series - 100 watts plus through a 15" speaker, volume, treble and bass controls plus a "cut and boost" switch. It also has a jack socket for an extension cabinet ( I have been advised that the cabinet must be 8ohm minimum) this appears to be good advice as I connected my 4B cab and the volume increased noticeably. It's portable, 17" wide, 18" high 10" deep and weighs approx 28lbs. Delivery to the successful buyer will be by courier and the amp will be professionally packed. The price ? A mere £350.00.
 10.
Bump for both Rhino and Dynacord. He sold me a very lovely Dynacord all tube bass amp last year and it is fantastic. Rhino is a great chap as well. Buy with confidence in both.
Many thanks for your complimentary remarks - I'm sure you're right !! Cheers, Rhino.
 11.
Does the combo have the front flight case lid? I used to have one of these and ALSO regret getting rid of it! A middle aged woman was looking in the mirror one night, sighing she turned to her husband and said "Im old, fat and ugly, please pay me a compliment" The husband looks up and says, "Your eyesight is still good!" Dave
Hi Dave Yes, it does have the front flight case lid. From the amount of comment and reverence attaching itself to the Dynacord, I think I should find a suitable cave and charge bass players a nominal £1 per visit to include jamming along with a 12 bar of their choosing Other musicians: £10.00 per visit, no favours. As for drummers, well, £20 per visit to include a free wipe of their mouths to make sure that they are dribbling from both sides. You may know that I live in West Yorkshire, so if you are ever passing by, let me know and you can call in and pay your respects to the "Great One". Rhino.
 12.
Bit off topic but... Bloke goes to the doctor Doctor-"How can I help you" Patient-"I'm getting some strange sounds from my rear end, specifically every time I fart it goes Honda" Doctor-"Very strange indeed, please drop your trousers and bend over. The doctor has a good look and tells the man to pull his trousers up again. Patient-"Well Doctor,is it serious?" Doctor-"You seem to have an abcess" Patient-"But why the sound?" Doctor-"Have you never heard the saying,Abcess makes the fart go Honda" Nice combo and BUMP
What have I started? Rhino.
 13.
And there was me thinking it would have four 12" speakers, eh! Those crazy Germans ...
They have never got over the Brits nicking the Enigma machine and consequently their mathematical ability has been somewhat impaired. However, I have worked out how a 1 x 15" combo is designated the model name & number "BS412" B is the 2nd letter in the english alphabet and S is the 19th so , here goes: 219 plus 412 = 631 - 6+3+1 = 10: 10 x 50% (war time inflation) =5 , 10 + 5 = 15 !!!! Did you know that during WW2, the germans parachuted into Butlins at Minehead a couple of times and attempted to hide in the chalets ? Fortunately, on their last visit they were seen by a young man riding a bike in circles who reported his sighting to the police and then sat down and wrote the famous song " Rhine Troops Keep Falling On Minehead". Rhino.
 14. S O L D I decided to buy the combo for gigs with a rock band as I had used the gear in the early 1970's, was impressed with the quality and it didn't seem too heavy at that time. The quality is still there but the weight appears to have tripled. and the rock band's bass player is not leaving. On to the technical stuff. 250 watts through an Electrovoice 15" via a 7 band graphic Eq, plus treble and bass rotary controls, usual send & return facility, a compressor, and a distortion unit (?). See pictures. This combo is LOUD, punchy, and clean or dirty, whatever you want. I am quite happy to let it go for £300 and in view of the weight, 42kilos, the size, 68cm high, 67 cms wide and 40cm deep I will deliver it within a 100 mile radius of Leeds for £25 or meet halfway if over 100 miles. If a buyer is found, I will split the money and donate it to the Parkinson's Society and another charity to be the choice of the buyer. You know it make sense. Rhino. S O L D .
 15.
Hi there - thanks for offer but looking for cash as have my cab set-up sorted (Aguilar GS112 for small gigs/practices and MArkbass 106 for bigger gigs) - plus just forked out over £700 for a new Markbss R500 head so a bit short at the moment! I would take £200 plus delivery costs (I am in London) if you're interested? Clarky
Hello, I'm OK at £200 plus cabinet. I'll speak to a local courier and see if it's possible to deliver my 4B to you and collect your mini brute for a return load. Moneywise, I could arrange a bank transfer direct into whatever account you wish. The other option is that I drive down to London and we meet wherever and exchange goods and cash. What do you think? Regards, Rhino
 16.
Hi, new forumite here. I have a Polytone MiniBrute 1 bass combo (with 12 inch speaker; metal grill) which I bought 10 years ago from the old Bass Centre in Wapping for £450 for use with a double bass. In the end I didn't get on with the double bass and the amp has been sat in my study for about 8 years unused (and never gigged). It is essentially as new without a scratch. Anyone any idea what its worth (Bass Gallery has had a s/h one for sale for £450 for quite a time now so its obviously less than that)? Any interest in it? I am based in central London. Cheers Clarky
Hi Clarky, Would you be interested in part exchanging your Mini Brute 1 for my PJB 4b cab, as new and with custom made cover, plus £100.00 cash ? Cheers, Rhino
 17. I bought a '62 precision from Music Ground, Stainforth nr Doncaster, in the late 70's which was previously owned by Wishbone Ash's bassman (whoever he was/is) I also tried out a '62 lime green jazz bass which was up for sale in the Bass Center the owner being John Entwistle. It was poor, weak pickups, thick neck, however, I don't suppose it mattered when plugged in to millions of watts from Sunn amps. Rhino.
 18.
Whoda thought it? A WW amp tech less than 10 minutes from where I live. Who is it? Surely not based at Spectre Sound?
It's Ambertronics (Chris Taylor) 20, Clyde Street, Bingley. 01274 569295 www.ambertronics.co.uk Cheers, Rhino.
 19. WALTER WOODS AMPS Hi, Which model do you have ? It should have it on the underside. Anyroad up, I can fax you / e-mail an "instruction manual" (3 pages) which includes a"schematic" diagram of the circuitry involved details of an amp tech in Bingley, Yorkshire, whom I would recommend wholeheartedly, and an address for WW in California. Basically, you set the amp up as follows, input volume 3pm., master volume at 10am and the three tone pots at 12am/pm I haven't had any trouble with the WW since I bought it but I wouldn't personally send the amp back to WW in fear of damage and theft whilst "en route" As a matter of interest, I am using an Aerodyne Jazz bass into my WW MI 100-8 through two PJB 4B cabinets which sounds superb and I also have a PJB Suitcase combo which I can use singly or coupled up with a PJB 4B cabinet. The difference in sound between WW and PJB is that the WW sounds more like a valve amp compared to the PJB 200 watt amp in the combo. I hope I have been of help, Rhino.
 20. Hi, A belated welcome from another Yorkshire based bass player lurking in Menston. This is a good site, very helpful people. Cheers, Rhino.

 22.
Very interested in this but can you confirm a bit more information about the condition. Any dinks, fret wear or other issues?
Two dinks above bridge, just visible on the picture, no fret wear, (4 gigs in two years) no other issues . Cheers, Rhino
