I forgot all about Thunderbirds when I discovered this.

An Acoustisonic bass version of this would be innovative.

Well, he does play more than one bass... https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/gear/green_days_mike_dirnt_explains_why_he_chose_epiphone_over_gibson_for_his_new_bass_they_got_rid_of_all_that_stuff.html ...but right now this one with the full rosewood neck is his favorite -
Sorry, can't find a Jazz bass pic.

Some better colors, too...Grey Burst and 3-Tone Sunburst were terrible choices.

I like him just fine. He keeps it nice and simple here. https://youtu.be/2MRdtXWcgIw?si=Cf-_u3c8zqW1wprA I prefer this guy, though. -

What's this, the 8th or 9th $1,000 plus MIM and the 5th or 6th Mark Hoppus bass? Someone at Fender must really love him. -
Dimarzio Relentless...arched tops to match the fretboard radius and adjustable pole pieces.
-
As mentioned above, Harley Benton. You can buy a brand new one for that price.
-
Most Reverend basses are around 8 lbs. Just saw this Thundergun and it's under 8. They're available in the UK.
-
This can't be the only one without any sharp edges.

My first good bass was a Thunderbird Pro IV. Some people don't like them because they're active, but that's probably because they didn't try flatwounds or tapewounds. GHS black tapewounds would look great on that and they're a good match for the pickups and electronics. Countless pickguards available these days, too.

Harley Benton HB-50 Semi-Hollow Bass £200-Orange or Cherry

The orange one isn't very orange. Maybe it's just the website shot, though. Regardless, I like a deeper orange. -
I don't remember seeing this one before. Can you take mother of pearl out of a neck and put it into another ?
jd56hawk replied to Bef's topic in Bass Guitars
Removing fretboard inlays and having them put in the fretboard of another neck wouldn't be easy, and I'd hate to think what someone would charge for such a job. For the price of the cheapest set of strings available, you can simply buy a set of fretboard stickers and put them on the new neck. I've had them on this bass for seven years and they still look good. -
I think you're really going to like your Dub King, regardless of the strings you go with. I almost bought the purple metalflake one, but went with a Bacchus Woodline instead.
-
Yes, I don't put much credence into the high-mass bridge being better for sustain or whatever, though some people do. I certainly don't notice anything measurably different between these two. However, I do like the look of many high-mass bridges.
-
No real need to go string through with that bridge and have to worry about flatwounds or tapewounds breaking...it's a high-mass bridge after all. I've owned several Thunderguns and a Mercalli and have always used the top load option with tapewound strings...they're well suited for those pickups and electronics. You might like these...second best tapewounds made. Perfect tension, I have them on my two Dean Exotica acoustic basses, too.
-
If you have to buy without trying, it's always a bit of a gamble, so go with a store that has a good return policy and a bass brand that has a good track history. I have seven basses, bought five of the from Reverb. No problems whatsoever with any of them. Keyword...savvy.

Some people don't like the high price for an MIM, but wasn't the Milky Way MIM Jazz bass $1,500? $1,500 or $1,600 is what people should expect to pay for MIM signature basses, whether it's Blu DeTiger, Mono Neon, Mikey Way, Mike Kerr, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Mack Weakly or any of the big-name bassists of today. Other than that, both basses look better than anything you can put together on the Fender KCS. And let's not forget, they didn't add $100 to $150 to the price of the new Player series basses, so this new Jazz bass isn't exactly a money grab.

Someone said they looked like they're painted with house paint.
-
I stand corrected. They do! So the question is, where are the lemon yellow MBs in the photo being sold?
-
If they had to go yellow, why didn't they go with Markbass yellow?
