Found this site- this is what I am after, lots of options, however it would be preferable to find these options available in the UK somewhere! http://www.musikraft.com/product-info.php?pid455.html

Hi guys, After a bit of help. I would like to know where I could source a high-quality P bass neck, maple. I would like to get a vintage-style neck, with the larger tuner holes, and a 7.25 radius, however I need it to be 1.625 at the nut rather than 1.75. I'd like to have rolled fingerboard edges and maybe even a soft VEE profile if this is a possibility. Most replacement necks I have seen have a 9.5" or 10" radius. I really want the neck to be well made, capable of a nice low action. If it can come with the nut cut and a vintage finish that would make things even easier. Do you guys know of anywhere? Thanks!
This is a really intersting thread. I bought a Jazz and thought the neck was wow! Then a bought a RW P and was pleasantly surprised. The neck wasn't as chunky as I feared. In fact I kind of really like it. I have a few other basses with slightly different size necks and I just can't decide which I prefer. I think the jazz may be easier to play some things, but I really do like the feel of the P. I'm come to the conclusion, for me at least, that they are just different and sometimes I'm in the mood for one or another. That said, I'm not gigging at the moment, or playing a lot. Maybe if I was doing some serious playing I would start to lean to one, or the other. I once owned a streamer $$ and the neck was a little wide and very fat. Looking back I didn't find this comfortable at all (for my size of hands). Thanfully my P and stingray are nowhere near as chunky as this one was. Aside, but sort of related I now find after switching from 24 frets to 22/21 and going back to 24 a little odd!
The RW P isn't a deep neck, but it is a wide neck.
That sounds like quite a big job. May I ask how much it cost?
I think it was £250 all in, around that. It wasn't a decision i took lightly- the bass had become a real struggle to play, and i had to have the action set so low to play it well, it rattled just looking at it. It was that or go for a Warmoth neck, but I really find the 7.25" radius comfortable so wanted to keep that. If I ever intended to sell the bass, which I don't, i may have gone Warmoth.
I have a similar age japanese squier precision neck on my bitsa jazz - oddly it's also 40mm - i think they just all went similar sizes. Nice necks though. It must onyl be a few mm between that and the streamer (narrower necks) and the Precision (wider) but it makes such a difference- mind you Dave-the-bass I think may have a point and I may pushing with too much/little pressure as the neck's thinner - which suggests I could get back up to speed on it... or might just chuck it and replace it with something with a thinner neck!
I have a silver series jazz as well, the neck is lovely. But it's still a jazz! I may in future try the P with a jazz neck combo.

Yup, A fender Road Worn precision was my go-to bass, with it's 1.75" width, for a few years. Didn't really play anything else in that time, and found the RW very comfortable to play even though, like you, I have short stubby fingers. I had to have the action very low though. Picked up a Japanese Precision a couple of years back with a 1.625" width at nut, and suddenly everything felt faster and easier, and also less of a strain. My road worn, which I think is a fantastic instrument, subsequently (after much consideration) had a visit to my luthier whereby the neck was reprofiled to 1.625" width, and now that feels a joy to play.
At the risk of resorting to cultural stereotypes, my experience of doing business with Germans, ALL Germans, is that they are absolutely punctilious and reliable. I've never yet had a bad experience when dealing with either a German business on t'Net or with a German individual on, for example, eBay.
Sweeping statement of positive discrimination there, like it! Can only echo the above though- funnily enough I've just today had two Mackie TH15A's turn up from Thomann that my band are going to be using for foldback. They arrived in 2 working days from Germany, absolutely perfect, sound great, ready to go! B Stock items that were by far the cheapest on the net, and they look brand new. very happy. Can't recommend Thomann highly enough with my experience of them. On the subject on buying from Germans in general- I once bought a set of 4 alloy wheels with tyres from Germany, through a private seller on ebay, and he couldn't speak (or at least, type) great english, and my german has slipped somewhat in recent years, so some of our conversation had to be carried out using google translate. He wasn't offering postage, so I sent him a message to see if he would consider sending them to the UK. He would, and they turned up only 2 days later, exactly as described, in made-to-measure cardboard boxes (how he did that i've no idea), packaged as though they were ming vases. I've ordered CD's in the UK before and they've taken over a week to get here and turned up battered. Deal with confidence! I read on this very forum once that someone could not decide between two different basses on the Thomann site, so rang them for advice. They simply told him to order both, and send the one he didn't like back in 30 days!

I enjoying watching the confused look on all the trendies faces in the audience when At The Drive In performed on later a few years ago! -
I'm with a folk/rock outfit called the bell jars. We used to be called gallowglass. If you've been to St austell beer fest in the past 4 years chances are you've seen us play! I actually ran both bands alongside each other for a while, but it became too much once HTS made a name for themselves. Matt Little is crazy! Never tire of seeing him perform. Are you out gigging at the moment with anyone?
Not on this forum, but thinking locally, Matt Davy of MD Electrics makes leads and he's in the St Austell area. Russ Fletcher down in Barripper does them as well.
Ha! Maaaaat Daaaavy! I know him well he's a mate. Played with him in HTS before I left and Dave joined. Good old boy. He usually has too much on his plate for me to hassle him with lead buyage. He just did the sound for my band at Fowey Regatta. Will contact OBBM directly, thanks guys.

basschat rocks. Cheers guys.

As in the title! Looking for someone who can make custom leads for PA, etc. Someone on here must do it! Not looking to buy loads, but want a few quality items at custom lengths. Thanks
Not much going on with the bass tone here, to my ears. Pretty standard flumpiness.
That's why I like it! It sounds like the band are playing in a small room and the bassist has a far bigger rig than everyone else. The way it's mixed is awesome. It's not a particularly hard tone to replicate to be fair, but I hardly ever hear songs mixed like this- it's more about what they haven't done than what they have. It would have been easy to chuck a grindy stingray tone in which sounds great stand-alone but ruins the song. The bass tone here makes this tune for me- maybe I should edit the thread to be 'best bass tone I've heard recently in the context of the tune'
-
To my ears, one of the best bass tones I've heard recently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOXaUjGk-yY What do you think?

That's good to know. I've gassed for an L2K since I started playing, as I realised the stingray was all wrong for me, and had a 'one sound' I wasn't too keen on. When I finally got an L2k, although it was good, it didn't blow me away. With a pro set-up, tweaked to how I like it, and with time to get my head around the electronics maybe it would have. The M2k is on my hitlist now though.

I've got no opinion on what difference a Nitro finished guitar makes to tone, but I do know the Nitro finished P basses I have are very much like Nitro instruments are described as being, warm, resonant, let the wood breathe, etc. How much of this is positive reinforcement I don't know, but the Roadworn in particular sounds amazing unplugged, very loud and warm and full. Plugged in I wouldn't like to comment. For feel, though, it's Nitro all the way for me now. They just seem so much better in your hands and under your arms. Very comfortable. Not cold, hard and sticky, like poly.

Aye, makes sense. The tribute I tried at the gallery a couple of years ago was a heavy brute. My US was heavier than I would have liked but live-with-able. How does everyone else find the weight?
