  1. Yeah and I wasn't too pleasant either in reply. Apologies
  2. Where r u? Someone just may live around the corner
  3. With respect, if there's no fret buzz I wouldn't recommend leaping straight into trussrod adjustment but try the aforementioned 1st. I can get loadsa clank and all my trussrod adjustments are fine. Check your relief as per the site 1st. Good site if it does need doing though. To tighten the trussrod/reduce the relief turn clockwise towards the neck/rod whichever end the adjuster is (sometimes both). Peter
  4. EQ settings make a big difference to the amount of 'clank' that comes through and it's worth experimenting with maybe less treble. As you strike the strings are you giving them a lot of 'up and down' as well as 'side to side' movement? Maybe changing how you 'pluck' (!) will make a difference.? Try playing closer to the bridge too that helps restrict string movement. Finall you could raise string height. I like clank btw, when it fits.
  5. Welcome to BC from someone who lived and worked in Fife for a while. I actually have an Iceni Zoot Custom Chaser fretless 5 that I'd consider parting with if you were interested. It'd be the top of your price range tho and a bargain at that Peter
  6. He's got one back again at the mo
  7. All the best with the sale at whatever price you go for and we're not all ignorant brits btw Peter

    Nice Guy Eddie

I had a good night out on Saturday thanks to Homer and the band: That DJ is one sweet sounding bass. Cheers Alan
  9. I've always gone for the front neck position and tend to stay there most of the time. I'm learning and experimenting more with moving towards the bridge pickup not just for the tonal difference but also because there less string 'clatter' going on. I have the pickup covers on my Rics and that suits my mono position playing
  10. Rickenbacker shouldn't 'have to' outsource or get bigger in order to remove their waiting list if they choose not to. The company apparently functions well at it's present size and format and it can be folly to change what works, especially if growth makes a company vulnerable. They have streamlined their range in order to get on top of their order book. I suspect that there are negatives too with forever making instruments that have been ordered for over a year. Having time and manpower to spend on development being one of them. I suspect that the price hike is mainly in place to cover the increasing cost of raw materials. As developing countries are consuming ever more sometimes dwindling resources prices have shot up. According to Ric, the last price rise was in 2001 and because of the backlog this price rise won't take effect until 2008/9. Maybe the biggest mistake that Ric have made is in the way they have done this from a marketing point of view rather more than what they have actually done?
  11. Jammie This is not meant to be personal but it must be more than just a coincidence that your views, in different forums over the years, cause such controversy? I actually go with your views pretty much on Ric's, against the general run of opinion here. But as they say in NLP 'The map is not the territory' and trying to be the one who proves his opinion is the right one just isn't going to work and can cause much angst. Peter
  12. Basschat is a community and just like any other gathering of people goes through the 'forming, norming and storming' and hopefully we enjoy the experience. If someone comes along and throws a deliberately contentious issue into the 'maw' and stands back to see the impact it doesn't show much respect to the other members imo. I'm all for opinions being expressed, as opinions but there's a lot of 'I hate this....' this is crap etc that says more to me about the poster than the subject matter. Basschat has grown and is undoubtably very successful but it has long since ceased to be a place of good willed respect/pisstaking and banter for me. I visit, glean info, catch up with friends and contribute but for me the 'soul' has gone. Maybe it's me and not the forum? Who knows. Peter
  13. Good news and fair play to Mr Volume and Uncoo.
  14. Of course to some the body shape is good. I'ts more subtle imo than it 1st appears. Too many bleedin fender shapes around anyway I thought that John Hall put across a good point. Not many are so straight forward and responsive to critisism. Look at the MM forum Given that there's more than a fair amount of 'sucking up' going on on the Ric forum too.
  15. Twice as much
  16. Gulp
  17. There's no ACG in that list, a glaring error in my opinion I don't know when Ric last put there prices up and by how much but it seems to me that they are now pretty much on a par with US Laklands. I know that Ric's are not everyone's 'cuppa' but imo they're well made with several fairly unique design aspects that must make them more expensive to build. I don't think that saying 'you hope they go under' will serve anyone's purpose. If their market dries up, which I doubt, they'll have to either adjust their prices downwards or if they can't do that redesign a cheaper product/outsource manufacture abroad.
  18. Andy I think that you're as taken with that Birdseye as I am Peter
  19. I'd like to add that the 'naming and shaming' that I suggested would only be appropriate I feel if all other avenues had been exhausted and the other party had clearly been dishonest. At the very least it would warn others off.
  20. It's possible that the seller has a problem at work or home, is ill or something similar. You could ask on here if anyone knows this person and can check out the problem that way. I bought a bass off someone on BC (or a prior incarnation) and it took just over 4 weeks to arrive but it turns out that for this particular seller and their lifestyle that's about standard and once I knew that I relaxed a bit. You could just place a polite post explaning the circumstances and give the seller a chance to respond in a similarly reasonable manner. If all this fails, well it may be name and shame time? Of course what you've done so far may illicit a response
  21. If 13 had to go this one would remain:
  22. Maybe someone needs to tell him that life isn't always fair and that there are times that nothing can be done and you need to move on.
  23. I know that Alan at ACG is making a neck for a customer at the moment. My ACG neck is amazingly flat and consistent.
  24. A quick review of the MP-BT1 the MP3 player version of the Tascam CD-BT1. Basically its very good. MP3 player itself is great with more oomph than my Creative Zen. Size wise it's tiny and quite weighty. I believe it's a 1Gb device that should hold around 240 songs. The controls are more intuitive/menu driven than the CD version and the bass sounds much better (much less 'mickey mouse'). Basically plug in the bass and set up the input volume. Play the track and adjust bass/track differential rocker and output rocker. I haven't used many effects yet but so far its all positives. The battery is an internal rechargeable Li-on and no power unit is suppled (one is available) but the beast charges via the PC and USB cable. It's built to industrial strength with a thick metal case and the screen is monocolour but easy to read. Buttons feel good, a very important thing you know. Very pleased to put it mildly. Peter
  25. There may be some with a huge number and who are still embarrassed
